    • Saturday’s 6-pack

Updated odds to win the NBA title:

      Golden State Warriors 7-5

      Houston Rockets 9-5

      Cleveland Cavaliers 17-10

      Toronto Raptors 13-1

      Philadelphia 76ers 16-1

      Oklahoma City Thunder 40-1

      Quote of the Day
“It can be a tough environment. It’s very businesslike, and at times it can be cold. Everything in New England is predicated on performance. It’s a place where people sometimes treat you differently based on how you practiced that day or how you answered a question in a meeting. One day, you could walk around the facility feeling like a Pro Bowler — the next, like you’re about to get cut.”
Ex-Patriot Nate Solder, now a Giant

      Saturday’s quiz
What team did Kevin Durant begin his NBA career with?

      Friday’s quiz
Phil Mickelson’s brother/caddy used to be the golf coach at Arizona State.

      Thursday’s quiz
Chip Kelly was the Philadelphia Eagles’ coach before Doug Pederson.

      Saturday’s List of 13: Clearing out a cluttered mind……

      13) Thinking about the NFL Draft and Baker Mayfield— I know there’s a lot more to it than just the QB, but Oklahoma Sooners averaged 8.29 yards/play last year, best in country. Next best was UCF at 7.46 yards/play. Sam Darnold’s USC offense was 15th on the list, at 5.56 yards/play.

      12) Jets traded three #2 draft picks to move up from #6 to #3 in the draft, so everyone’s job is on the line when they make that selection in 12 days.

Guess it is odd that the Giants/Jets will be under intense scrutiny in a draft held in Dallas.

      11) Atlanta Falcons games in 2017 went under the total by an average of 6.84 ppg, after a 2016 season whey went over the total almost every week.

Detroit Lions games went over by an average of 4.34 ppg, the most in the NFL.

      10) Mets lost both their catchers to injury this week; Travis d’Arnaud tore his UCL, Kevin Plawecki broke his hand. When you’re excited about having Jose Lobaton on your roster, it is time to trade for a catcher.

      9) Chick-fil-A is coming to New York City, which means it is only 148 miles from Armadillo World HQ. Actually, there is a Chick-fil-A in Albany Airport, but you have to go thru security to get to it, so only time I can eat there is when I fly to Las Vegas.

      8) Dallas Cowboys sent WR Dez Bryant packing, which is what happens when you don’t run as fast as you used to. He has a reputation as a bad clubhouse guy; we’ll see where he catches on.

      7) Paul Casey missed the cut at Harbourtown this week, ending his streak of 29 consecutive cuts made, which was the longest active streak on Tour.

      6) Braves 4, Cubs 0— I know its early, I know the weather has mostly sucked so far, but Chicago is 6-7 and their lineup looks very bland. Anthony Rizzo is expected back next week

      5) Much-improved baseball announcer; Braves’ TV guy Chip Caray has gotten so much better over the years; he is fun to listen to now. He is a little ornery about instant replay, but working with Joe Simpson, they’re a good team.

      4) As the dust clears on Lonzo Ball’s rookie year in the NBA, we see that Ball averaged 10.2 ppg, 7.2 assists, 6.9 rebounds and 1.7 steals while shooting 36% from the floor, 30.5% from beyond the arc, while missing 30 of 82 games— he played 34.2 mpg in the 50 games he did play.

      3) Seahawks signed Sebastian Janikowski to be their new kicker; he’ll see his old team Oakland next season. Raiders will see their old punter Marquette King twice a year since he is now a Denver Bronco.

      2) Here in Albany, Siena gave basketball coach Jimmy Patsos $350K to take a hike after five years with the Saints. Patsos was 77-92 at Siena, 47-51 in MAAC games- he didn’t make the NCAA tournament. He did make the NCAA’s once in nine years as coach of Loyola, MD.

To get out of paying most of what they owed Patsos (he had 3 years left on his contract), the school dredged up some crummy things he did within the team— he was verbally abusive to a team manager, among other things.

Rumored replacements for Patsos: LeMoyne coach Patrick Beilein and Syracuse assistant Gerry McNamara.

1— White Sox-Twins in Minnesota was snowed out Friday night and prospects for Saturday don’t look so good, either. Why didn’t they put a retractable dome on their new ballpark, like Milwaukee did?

              • LEADING OFF: Cobb to make Orioles debut at Fenway Park
                April 14, 2018

A look at what's happening all around the majors today:

                BIRD WATCHING

Alex Cobb's debut for the Baltimore Orioles is a tough assignment. The right-hander faces J.D. Martinez, Mookie Betts and the fast-starting Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Cobb signed a $57 million, four-year contract with the Orioles as a free agent on March 21. He went 10-12 last year with a 3.66 ERA for Tampa Bay in his first full year back after missing nearly two seasons because of Tommy John surgery. Boston is 11-2 for only the second time in team history, matching the 1918 World Series champions.

                EMPTY SEATS

Playing before sparse crowds at home, the Miami Marlins host Jameson Taillon and the first-place Pittsburgh Pirates (9-4). In his previous start, Taillon (2-0, 1.26 ERA) threw a one-hitter in a 5-0 win over Cincinnati. Miami (4-9) has posted abysmal attendance numbers this week, averaging 6,556 fans for a three-game series with the New York Mets before drawing 6,852 for Friday night's victory over Pittsburgh. Those were the team's lowest reported totals since 2006 and the lowest since moving to Marlins Park in 2012. ''We're going to be transparent and we're going to be honest about it,'' new CEO Derek Jeter said. ''We're not happy with it. We have to grow those numbers.''

                CATCH THIS

Just about everything is going right for the streaking New York Mets - except behind the plate. On the same day they announced Travis d'Arnaud will have season-ending Tommy John surgery, fellow catcher Kevin Plawecki was placed on the disabled list with a broken left hand that's expected to sideline him for three to four weeks. So the Mets could be in the market for a new backstop to join veteran switch-hitter Jose Lobaton, who was called up from Triple-A and tripled in his first at-bat Friday against Milwaukee. Matt Harvey pitches against Chase Anderson and the Brewers when New York, with the top record in the majors (11-1) and best start in team history, goes for its 10th straight win.

                THE HOT CORNER

Toronto is off to a 9-5 start after snapping Cleveland's five-game winning streak Friday night, but the Blue Jays will be without slugging third baseman Josh Donaldson for a while. The 2015 AL MVP went on the 10-day DL with right shoulder inflammation and will work out in Florida. ''He'll go down there and get on a throwing program,'' manager John Gibbons said. ''Hopefully it's not too long. I don't think it will be.'' Gibbons said Yangervis Solarte will see most of the playing time at third in Donaldson's absence.

                DEEP FREEZE

Wintry weather could make it difficult to play in Minnesota and Detroit this weekend. The Twins postponed their scheduled game against the Chicago White Sox because of rain Friday night, with no makeup date set and the rest of the series in jeopardy, too. Forecasts called for snow overnight, with potential for more than a foot of accumulation throughout Saturday and Sunday. It was the 12th postponement in the majors already this season - including three in Detroit, where the possibility of severe weather might impact the Yankees and Tigers over the weekend.

                HOW LOW WILL THEY GO?

The Reds have the worst record in the majors at 2-11. Another loss against St. Louis would give Cincinnati its worst start to a season since 1931, when it opened 2-17. The Reds have been outscored 18-7 while dropping the first two games of their series against the Cardinals.

                  • Ramirez, Red Sox get to 12-2, best start in team history
                    April 14, 2018

CHICAGO (AP) Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 10-3 on Saturday to get to 12-2 - the best start in their 118-year history.

Andrew Benintendi had a two-run single and an RBI double, and J.D. Martinez hit a solo homer for the Red Sox.

Only once - in 1918 - had Boston started 11-2.

Alex Cobb (0-1) was roughed up in his Orioles debut, giving up eight runs - seven earned - in 3 2/3 innings. Pedro Alvarez had a two-run homer for Baltimore, which has lost four of five.

Hector Velazquez (2-0) gave up two runs in five innings. Marcus Walden pitched the final three innings for his first big-league save.

                    BREWERS 5, METS 1

NEW YORK (AP) - Chase Anderson breezed into the seventh inning, Jonathan Villar sliced a three-run homer inside the foul pole and Milwaukee stopped the Mets' nine-game winning streak.

Jett Bandy also went deep against Matt Harvey (0-1) on a windy Fireworks Night at Citi Field as the Brewers cooled off New York and improved to 6-2 away from home. Slumping shortstop Orlando Arcia came off the bench and homered in the ninth inning.

About the only bit of bad news for the banged-up Brewers was another injury: Ryan Braun was removed in the fifth inning with back tightness.

Anderson (1-1) allowed just two hits in 6 1/3 innings.

                    DIAMONDBACKS 9, DODGERS 1

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A.J. Pollock homered twice while Paul Goldschmidt and Alex Avila also went deep and Arizona beat Los Angeles.

Arizona has beaten the Dodgers five times this season and in 11 consecutive regular-season games dating to August 2017.

Goldschmidt's third homer of the season - a two out, two-run blast to left - highlighted a three-run, third inning.

Arizona third basemen Deven Marrero hit what appeared to be a one-out, three-run homer to left center in the fourth inning off of Rich Hill (1-1), but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts argued that Marrero passed Avila on the base path between first and second base. After a review, Marrero was credited with a single and ruled out for passing Avila and the Diamondbacks were awarded only two runs, making it 5-1.

Pollock had a two-run homer in the fifth and a solo shot in the eighth, and Avila connected in the ninth. Arizona starter pitcher Taijuan Walker pitched two innings and left due right forearm tightness. T.J. McFarland (1-0) pitched four scoreless innings of relief.

                    PHILLIES 9, RAYS 4

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Jake Arrieta won his first game for Philadelphia and rookies J.P. Crawford and Scott Kingery drove in two runs each against Tampa Bay.

It was the fifth straight win for the Phillies.

Arrieta (1-0) gave up three runs in 6 2/3 innings after being spotted a 6-0 lead in the second. The 32-year-old right-hander gave up seven hits and two walks in his second start for Philadelphia.

Crawford hit a double and his second home run off Rays starter Chris Archer (1-1). Kingery, who had scored the winning run Friday night after a ninth-inning double, hit two more doubles.

Doubles by Nick Williams, Kingery and Crawford were among six Phillies hits in a six-run second inning off Archer.

                    CARDINALS 6, REDS 1

CINCINNATI (AP) - Cincinnati sunk to its worst start since 1931, losing its seventh in a row when Greg Garcia hit two home runs to lead St. Louis Cardinals.

The Reds fell to a major league-worst 2-12. The Cardinals have won three in a row.

Garcia had a solo homer and a two-run shot off left-hander Brandon Finnegan (0-1). He also doubled.

Miles Mikolas (2-0) limited the Reds' struggling offense to four hits in seven innings, including Tucker Barnhart's homer.

                    CUBS 14, BRAVES 10

CHICAGO (AP) - Javy Baez had a three-run double as Chicago scored nine times in the eighth inning on just three hits in cold, wet and windy conditions at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs trailed 9-1 in the third inning, were still down 10-2 in the sixth and went into the eighth behind 10-5. Chicago then used five walks, two hit batters, an error and a wild pitch to come back against four Atlanta relievers - all nine runs scored after there were two outs.

Justin Wilson (1-0) got the win and Jose Ramirez (0-1) took the loss.

                    RANGERS 6, ASTROS 5, 10 INNINGS

HOUSTON (AP) - Ronald Guzman's first career homer tied the game in the eighth inning, and he put the Rangers ahead with an infield single in the 10th as Texas rallied from five runs down to beat Houston.

The Rangers, who snapped a five-game losing streak, loaded the bases with one out off Will Harris (0-1) before Guzman sent a hard grounder up the middle that Harris tried to grab. It ricocheted off Harris' glove, allowing Jurickson Profar to score.

Keone Kela (1-0) pitched the ninth for the win. Chris Martin allowed consecutive singles to start the 10th but induced lineouts from Carlos Correa and Yuli Gurriel. Alex Claudio came on and retired Josh Reddick on a grounder to earn his first save.

Houston has lost three of four after starting the season 9-2.

                    PADRES 5, GIANTS 4

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Hunter Renfroe hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh, an inning after his outfield assist prevented a run from scoring, and San Diego beat San Francisco.

Renfroe lined a shot to left off Cory Gearrin (0-1), his second. Freddy Galvis was aboard on a leadoff single. Renfroe finished with three RBIs.

San Francisco's Joe Panik tripled with one out in the seventh and the Giants seemed poised to add to their 4-3 lead. But Andrew McCutchen lined out to Renfroe in right. Renfroe's strong throw was cut off by first baseman Christian Villanueva, who threw to catcher A.J. Ellis to tag the sliding Panik. The play was upheld after a review of 2 minutes, 41 seconds. After Renfroe's homer, the Padres loaded the bases but Tony Watson retired the side on two strikeouts and a line out to shortstop.

Rookie Adam Cimber (1-1) earned his first big league win by allowing only a hit in two scoreless innings, while striking out three. Brad Hand got a four-out save, his sixth.

                    PIRATES 1, MARLINS 0

MIAMI (AP) - Corey Dickerson's bunt single in the ninth inning scored the only run and Pittsburgh edged Miami.

Pirates starter Jameson Taillon and Miami counterpart Trevor Richards kept the game scoreless into the later innings.

Brad Ziegler (0-3) retired the first batter in the Pittsburgh ninth before Starling Marte reached on a bunt hit. Josh Bell followed with a single that sent Marte to third.

Dickerson popped up a bunt that landed between Ziegler and second baseman Starlin Castro, allowing Marte to score. Dickerson is 16 for 36 (.444) with nine RBIs during a nine-game hitting streak.

George Kontos (1-1) worked a scoreless inning and Felipe Vazquez got his fifth save.

                    NATIONALS 6, ROCKIES 2

WASHINGTON (AP) - Max Scherzer dominated after an early hiccup, striking out 11 and retiring his final 20 batters as Washington stopped a three-game skid.

Scherzer (3-1) issued a one-out walk in the first and Charlie Blackmon followed with a home run. That was all the Rockies managed in seven innings against Scherzer, who has won the last two NL Cy Young Awards.

Jon Gray (1-3) allowed five runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Slugger Nolan Arenado didn't play as Colorado's three-game winning streak ended. He dropped his appeal of a five-game suspension for a fight earlier this week and began serving the penalty.

                    ANGELS 5, ROYALS 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Mike Trout, Justin Upton and Luis Valbuena homered as Los Angeles won its seventh straight, beating Kansas City as snow fell during the final innings.

The Angels won their ninth consecutive road game, and will have Shohei Ohtani as their starting pitcher Sunday. The Royals have lost five straight.

Trout hit his AL-leading sixth homer, a two-run drive in the fifth off Jakob Junis (2-1).

Upton homered to lead off the fourth. Valbuena snapped Junis' 16-inning scoreless streak with a leadoff drive in the third.

Angels right-hander Garrett Richards (2-0) did not allow a baserunner until the fifth. Keynan Middleton worked the ninth for his fourth save in as many chances.

Sunday’s List of 13: Wrapping up a cloudy Saturday

                      13) Philadelphia Phillies gave rookie 2B Scott Kingery a 6-year, $23M contract with options beyond that, before he ever played a major league game.

OF Nick Williams played 83 games as a rookie for the Phillies LY; he hit .283 with 55 RBI, pretty solid production. Not only is he still making the $553,000 league minimum, they don’t start him anymore, now that Rhys Hoskins has moved to the outfield. He started in Tampa Bay this weekend because its an AL park so they have the DH.

Williams must be really freakin’ happy.

                      12) QB Josh Allen will be the first Wyoming Cowboy taken in the first round of the NFL Draft since 1976, when they had two players taken in first round.

                      11) Weird stat: Rangers’ DH/OF Joey Gallo has 53 career home runs, 50 career singles.

                      10) Foot of snow in Minnesota this weekend; why didn’t these geniuses put a retractable dome on their new baseball stadium? Twins might not play for close to a week; I have Jose Abreu on my fantasy team— he’s getting the second half of this week off. No bueno.

Seriously; Sunday’s doubleheader was postponed at 4:00 Saturday. Awesome.

                      9) UCLA fired assistant basketball coach/Air Force veteran David Grace, a decorated military veteran who served in the Air Force during Operation Desert Storm.

He’s been given credit for bringing in some of UCLA’s top recruits over the last several years, including T.J. Leaf, Ike Anigbogu and Jaylen Hands.

                      8) Weirdness; A’s are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their first season in Oakland this year, while the Royals are celebrating their 50th season in Kansas City this year.

A’s started playing in Oakland in ’68, after leaving Kansas City. Royals started play when divisional play started, in ’69.

                      7) Miami Marlins drew 6,150 fans for a home game with the Mets Wednesday; their AA team in Jacksonville drew 6,960 fans that same night for their Southern League home opener vs Mobile.

                      6) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will be on Dancing With the Stars this fall; he could’ve made a freakin’ fortune in endorsements during/after his career, but he is very quiet and never showed much personality so once he stopped playing ball, he kind of disappeared.

Kareem will by 71 on Monday; good to see him enjoying himself now. I’ve said this before here and I firmly believe it— he was the most dominant basketball player ever.

                      5) Masters champ Patrick Reed sat behind the plate as the Astros game Saturday wearing his green jacket; he was also at a Rockets’ game and went to the drive-thru window at Chick-fil-A wearing the jacket. At what point does he hang the jacket in his closet and go back to playing golf?

                      4) Cubs 14, Braves 10— Atlanta led this game 10-2 in 6th inning on a hideous, cold, rainy day in Wrigley Field. Braves’ bullpen got 8 outs, allowed 11 runs.

This game shouldn’t have been played; the weather was awful.

                      3) Golfer Kelly Kraft missed the cut by a stroke at Hilton Head this week, in large part because his tee shot on the par-3 14th hole hit a bird and fell into the water— he double-bogeyed the hole. Because the bird is not a man-made object, Kraft had to play the ball where it lied, or take a penalty; had he hit an airplane, apparently he would get relief. Go figure.

                      2) Former Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops and legendary Arizona hoop coach Lute Olson recently had statues of themselves put up on the schools’ campuses.

1— In 1997, Barry Levinson wrote a movie called Wag the Dog, where just before a Presidential election, a spin-doctor and a Hollywood producer got together to fabricate a war in order to cover up the President’s sex scandal. Sound familiar?

HBO and Levinson are in the process now of creating a Wag the Dog comedy series, but the idea just isn’t funny anymore.

                      • LEADING OFF: Wintry weather, Verlander vs Colon, Reds skid
                        April 14, 2018

A look at what's happening all around the majors Sunday:

                        OHTANI UP

Shohei Ohtani makes his third major league start on the mound for the Los Angeles Angels, who have won seven in a row. The two-way sensation from Japan pitches at Kansas City, where the forecast calls for temperatures in the 30s and winds of 20 mph. ''Playing a game like that, I don't know if I've ever experienced that cold,'' Ohtani said through a translator.

Ohtani has twice faced the A's, going 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in 13 innings, allowing just four hits and striking out 18. He's not expected to bat - he's hitting .367 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in 30 at-bats, mostly starting as a designated hitter.

                        WICKED WEATHER

Snow is possible at Fenway Park, rain is likely at Citi Field and cold conditions are in the forecast at Wrigley Field, raising the possibility of more postponements in a season already beset by wintry weather. The White Sox-Twins game at Target Field has already been called off - for the third straight day - with snow piling up. Rain is predicted in Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Washington, putting those matchups in jeopardy.

The Cubs beat the Braves 14-10 on Saturday at Wrigley, where it was 38 degrees with a 24 mph wind and steady mist at the start. The conditions worsened as the game went on, but this was Atlanta's only visit to Chicago this season, so they finished.

''Baseball is not necessarily designed for this,'' Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. ''I don't know to what extent in the future, maybe, they can talk about when even if it's not actually physically snowing or raining, there might be elements that are not conducive to playing a legitimate game of baseball.''

                        V FOR VICTORY

Astros ace Justin Verlander has won nine straight regular-season games. He's 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA in three starts this year going into Sunday night, when Houston hosts Texas. Bartolo Colon will make his second start for the Rangers - the 44-year-old has a 1.64 ERA in three games so far.

                        NOAH'S ARM

With rain in the chilly forecast, Noah Syndergaard (2-0) tries to keep the Mets rolling against visiting Milwaukee. Syndergaard is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in two career outings vs. the Brewers, both at home. He has struck out 16 and walked one in 13 innings. Rookie catcher Tomas Nido will get his third big league start and first this season, manager Mickey Callaway said. Jhoulys Chacin (0-1) is scheduled to make his fourth start for Milwaukee. Opponents are hitting .333 with three homers against Chacin, who signed a $15.5 million, two-year contract after going 13-10 with a 3.89 ERA for San Diego last season. He is 2-5 with a 6.10 ERA vs. the Mets, including an 8.38 mark in five outings at Citi Field.

                        CHECK HIM

Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts bruised his left foot in a collision with Baltimore catcher Chance Sisco's left shin guard when he scored Saturday, and came out a few innings later. Boston manager Alex Cora said Betts will likely have the day off. ... Washington third baseman Anthony Rendon was out of the starting lineup Saturday for the first time this season. He left Friday night's game after fouling a ball off his left big toe. X-rays were negative, and Nationals manager Dave Martinez says Rendon is day to day.

                        REDS FEELING BLUE

The Reds are off to their worst start since 1931 with a 2-12 record that's puts them at the bottom of the major league standings. All players, managers, coaches and umpires will wear No. 42 as part of Jackie Robinson Day, when Major League Baseball pays tribute to the anniversary of the day the Brooklyn Dodgers great broke the color barrier on April 15, 1947. His wife, Rachel, and daughter, Sharon, are scheduled to be at the ballpark when the New York Mets host Milwaukee. At Dodger Stadium, fans will get Robinson jerseys at the game between Los Angeles and Arizona.

                        • Rox' Arenado begins 5-game suspension
                          April 14, 2018

WASHINGTON (AP) Colorado third baseman Nolan Arenado has dropped his appeal and immediately will begin serving his five-game suspension from Major League Baseball in Washington for his part in Wednesday's brawl with San Diego.

A team spokesman confirmed Saturday that Arenado would begin the suspension.

Arenado charged the mound after Padres pitcher Luis Perdomo threw a pitch behind his back during the Rockies' 6-4 victory.

Ryan McMahon replaced Arenado in the lineup at third base Saturday.

Rockies outfielder Gerrado Parra is still appealing his four-game suspension and is in the lineup on Saturday, batting second.

                          • Twins postpone 2nd straight home game
                            April 14, 2018

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The weather wound up taking three of four at Target Field this weekend.

Several hours after Saturday's game between the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota was postponed, the Twins said Sunday's game wouldn't take place, either.

This marks the first time in the nine-year history of Target Field that three straight games have been called off. Friday night's game was postponed because of rain.

Minnesota won 4-0 Thursday, a game where Joe Mauer recorded his 2,000th career hit.

Four of the first 10 Twins' home games, including last Sunday with Seattle, were postponed due to wintry weather.

''It's been a different start,'' Minnesota manager Paul Molitor said Friday. ''You're always going to have weather, but this time it's been extreme. ... I think we're all looking forward to the day we can start putting it together day after day after day instead of the stagnation.''

The Twin Cities area is under a blizzard warning until 7 a.m. Sunday with forecasters calling for more than a foot of snow in some locations. In addition, temperatures in the 20s and high winds remain in the forecast.

Both the Twins and White Sox are headed for warmer destinations, assuming the airport opens.

''To say that I'm not concerned about that, I would be lying,'' White Sox manager Rick Renteria told Chicago reporters Saturday night.

Chicago, which took some swings in the cages and threw side sessions Saturday, is scheduled to begin a three-game series Monday night in Oakland.

Minnesota is headed to San Juan, Puerto Rico for a two-game series with Cleveland beginning Tuesday.

No makeup dates have been announced for any of this weekend's lost games.

The White Sox are scheduled to play at Minnesota on June 5-7, and each team has June 4 open.

The AL Central opponents end their seasons at Target Field on Sept. 28-30. The clubs have a few other mutual days between now and then.

Bad weather has been an issue throughout the majors this season. As of Saturday, 15 games had been postponed, including four each in Minnesota and Detroit.

Postponements have made a mess out of pitching staffs as starters have extra time between starts and some relievers have gone more than a week without action.

The White Sox plan to start Reynaldo Lopez on Monday, followed by Miguel Gonzalez and Carson Fulmer. Lopez, who has allowed one earned run in 13 innings this season and last pitched April 8, was scheduled Friday and Gonzalez Saturday.

Lance Lynn, who last pitched Monday, had been scheduled to start Saturday for Minnesota with Jake Odorizzi going Sunday. The plan is for Odorizzi to start Tuesday with Jose Berrios going Wednesday on regular rest in his home country. Berrios allowed three hits and struck out 11 in seven innings Thursday as he continues to develop into the Twins ace.

Yet, the adverse weather might have helped the Twins pitching depth. Minnesota does not need a fifth starter until April 24, which gives Phil Hughes more time at the team's Florida facility as he recovers from a strained left oblique muscle.

Toronto, in its only previously scheduled trip to Cleveland this season, broke the Indians' five-game winning streak with an 8-4 victory Friday night.

Corey Kluber (1-1) had been scheduled to start for Cleveland on Sunday. The reigning AL Cy Young winner is expected to pitch Tuesday night when the Indians open a two-game series in San Juan, Puerto Rico, against the Minnesota Twins.

Jaime Garcia (1-0) had been scheduled to start for Toronto on Sunday. The Blue Jays open a three-game series Monday night against Kansas City at Rogers Centre.
