    June 25, 2017

Hottest team: Dodgers (9-0 past nine games, 15-1 past 16 overall)

The Dodgers continued to mow down the competition on Saturday, turning back the division rival Rockies by a 4-0 count behind Clayton Kershaw. They have outscored the Rockies 10-1 over the first two games of the series, and they're outscoring the competition 108-57 over the past 16 outings. Brandon McCarthy looks to keep the Dodgers in the win column on Sunday. They have won 13 of his past 16 starts at Chavez Ravine, and 11 of his past 15 outings. And for what it's worth, the Dodgers have won each of McCarthy's past six assignments on Sunday. The Rockies are slipping, winning just once in the past six road games while going 0-4 in their past four against divisional foes.

Coldest team: Giants (0-4 past four games, 1-11 past 12 overall)

While it's very pleasing to Dodgers fans to see their team on the 'hottest team' area, it's likely just as pleasing seeing the Giants in the 'coldest team' section. For bettors, they have been fading the Giants hard lately. San Francisco has not only lost four in a row, but they have lost by an average of 3.4 runs per game, and just two of their past 11 losses have been of the one-loss variety. The Giants have been outscored 16-6 over the first two games of the series against the Mets, who entered 1-7 in their previous eight games before wins Friday and Saturday. The Giants haven't had much luck vs. RHP, going 3-13 over their past 16, including 0-7 in their past seven at home against righties.

Hottest pitcher: Ervin Santana, Twins (9-4, 2.97 ERA)

The Twins have picked up road victories in each of the first two games in Cleveland, and they look for the sweep on Sunday behind their best pitcher. Minnesota improved to 22-9 on the road this season, second-best in the majors only to Houston. The Twins are 17-4 in their past 21 road games vs. RHP, and 5-1 across Santana's past six road outings. Santana's dominance will be put to the test against a Cleveland team which is 8-0 in their past eight on a Sunday. The Indians are also 5-1 over Josh Tomlin's past six against the Twins, while Minnesota is still just 5-14 over the past 19 games against Cleveland despite their 2-0 series advantage so far.

Coldest pitcher: Matt Moore, Giants (3-7, 5.82 ERA)

Moore has really struggled this season, allowing 55 earned runs through 15 starts, third-most in the majors this season. The opposition is hitting .297 against Moore this season, and he has allowed 32 walks and 102 hits through just 85 innings. San Francisco is just 1-5 over his six outings and 1-4 over his past five starts at home. The Giants are also 3-13 over their past 16 vs. RHP while going 0-7 in their past seven at home vs. RHP. San Francisco is also just 2-6 in Moore's past eight starts with four days of rest while going 1-5 over his past six against National League East opponents.

Biggest UNDER run: Padres (5-1 past six games)

The 'under' has connected in five of the past six for the Padres, and the under is 8-2-1 in their past 11 in the third game of a series. They're also 5-1 in Clayton Richard's past six starts on a Sunday, while going 3-0-1 over his past four against a team with a losing record. The over has been hitting for Detroit lately, going 3-1-1 in their past five road games. However, the under is 5-2-1 in Detroit's past eight interleague road outings and 3-1-1 in Jordan Zimmermann's past five road starts. The over hit in Saturday's game, but the under easily cashed in Friday's interleague series opener.

Biggest OVER run: Diamondbacks (11-5-1 past 17 games overall)

The Diamondbacks had hit the 'over' frequently this season, and the over is 11-5-1 across the past 17 outings. They have been picking on right-handed pitching to post most of their offense, going 39-19-1 in their past 59 at home vs. RHP. The over is also 52-23-3 over the past 78 at home, including 25-10-1 in the past 36 at Chase Field against teams with a road winning percentage of .400 or less. The over is also 10-3 in Randall Delgado's past 13 assignments, including 6-1 in his past seven outings when starting Game 3 of a series.

Matchup to watch: Cardinals vs. Pirates

Two ice-cold teams meet on Sunday night. These two National League Central Division foes had much higher expectations at the beginning of the season, but both find themselves several games under .500. The good news is that Pittsburgh is just four games back of the division-leading Brewers, while the Cards are five behind. So all is not lost despite the atrocious play at times, and this Sunday night game is tremendously important. The Bucs turn to Chad Kuhl to get the win, but they're just 1-4 over his past five outings and 1-6 in his past seven on the road. The Cardinals aren't much better lately, going 3-8 over their past 11 overall, 0-5 in their past five at home against a right-handed starter and 7-17 in their past 24 overall vs. RHP. They're also just 1-4 in Mike Leake's past five starts and 3-13 over his past 16 outings at home.

Betcha didn’t know: The Tigers have dropped eight in a row, and all eyes are on manager Brad Ausmus and whether or not the team will make a move to can him. In the meantime, Jordan Zimmermann gets the ball looking to snap Detroit's lengthy skid. He has four straight quality starts, including three runs and six hits over 6 2/3 innings in his most recent outings against the Mariners on Tuesday. He hasn't faced the Padres much in his career, when he has faced them it has been mostly favorable results. Zimm is 3-2 with a 1.69 ERA in eight career starts against the Padres, including a pair of complete games.

Biggest public favorite: Yankees (-210) vs. Rangers

Biggest public underdog: Rockies (+170) at Dodgers

Biggest line move: Athletics (+105 to -125) at White Sox

LOS ANGELES (AP) The Los Angeles Dodgers found a new way to extend their winning streak to 10 games, scoring five runs on four wild pitches to go along with two more homers from rookie sensation Cody Bellinger in rallying past the Colorado Rockies 12-6 on Sunday.

Bellinger has 24 home runs, helping the Dodgers stretch their longest string since they won 10 straight in August 2013. Colorado lost its season-worst fifth in a row.

Rockies reliever Adam Ottavino (1-2) threw four wild pitches in the late innings, all of them scoring at least one run.

Pedro Baez (2-0) pitched a scoreless inning for the win and Kenley Jansen got five outs for his 17th save. Jansen also walked his first batter of the season after striking out 51 in a dominant year.

        DIAMONDBACKS 2, PHILLIES 1, 11 INNINGS

PHOENIX (AP) - Daniel Descalso lined a run-scoring single in the 11th inning, and the Diamondbacks extended the best start in franchise history.

Paul Goldschmidt, who had a run-scoring single in the fourth inning, singled against Edubray Ramos (0-7) in the 11th and Chris Owings walked after fouling off several pitches. Descalso lined a ball through the right side and Goldschmidt scored just ahead of the throw. Arizona has won 11 of 13 and is 48-28 overall.

T.J. McFarland (4-1) worked around a walk in the 11th for the Diamondbacks.

Arizona had a runner on in the ninth, but Phillies center fielder Odubel Herrera made a leaping catch on Descalso's drive to the wall to end the inning.

        TWINS 4, INDIANS 0

CLEVELAND (AP) - Ervin Santana struck out seven in six innings, Jason Castro drove in three runs and the Twins swept the Indians.

Santana (10-4) allowed nine hits, but Cleveland's lineup struggled again. The Indians were shut out twice, went 1 for 23 with runners in scoring position and stranded 30 baserunners in the weekend series.

It was one sweet stay in Cleveland for the Twins, who were swept in a four-game set against the Indians at Target Field last weekend. Minnesota moved a half-game ahead of Cleveland for the division lead.

Josh Tomlin (4-9) allowed four runs in 5 2/3 innings for Cleveland, which was coming off a 7-1 road trip.

        RANGERS 7, YANKEES 6

NEW YORK (AP) - Adrian Beltre, Shin-Soo Choo and Drew Robinson homered off Michael Pineda, and the Rangers held on for the road win.

Robinson's solo shot was his first major league hit and put Texas up 7-0 in the fourth inning. The Rangers improved to 11-5 over their past 16 games.

After homers by Gary Sanchez and Ronald Torreyes helped get the Yankees within a run, Keone Kela worked around Chase Headley's leadoff double for a scoreless eighth, and Matt Bush struck out Sanchez with a runner aboard to cap his ninth save.

New York has lost 10 of 12 since reaching a season-high 15 games over .500. Pineda (7-4) gave up seven runs in four innings.

Nick Martinez (3-3) gave up four runs in five innings, including a three-run shot by Sanchez.

        BLUE JAYS 8, ROYALS 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna struck out three in a scoreless ninth inning a day after saying he was dealing with anxiety issues.

Jose Bautista homered for Toronto and drove in a season-high four runs. Francisco Liriano (4-3) earned his 100th career victory.

Osuna didn't pitch in a save situation on Friday night, and the Blue Jays' bullpen let a game get away. On Saturday, the 22-year-old reliever said he was out of sorts mentally and feeling anxious.

Osuna returned to the mound in a non-save spot and gave up an infield single while getting the last three outs.

Jorge Bonifacio homered for the Royals. Scott Alexander (0-2) got the loss.

        MARLINS 4, CUBS 2

MIAMI (AP) - The Cubs wasted a fine pitching performance by Mike Montgomery, stranding 11 runners and allowing three unearned runs.

Edinson Volquez (4-8) gave up five hits and five walks in five innings, but he stranded eight runners and departed with a 3-2 lead.

Miami's Ichiro Suzuki, 43, became the oldest player to start in center field since at least 1900, surpassing Rickey Henderson. Suzuki batted leadoff for the first time this year and went 0 for 4, dropping his average to .200.

Giancarlo Stanton hit his 20th homer for Miami, and A.J. Ramos got four outs for his 12th save.

Montgomery (1-4), making his fourth start of the year, allowed three runs, none earned, in six innings.

        BREWERS 7, BRAVES 0

ATLANTA (AP) - Travis Shaw became the first player to reach SunTrust Park's right-field roof, belting a long two-run homer for the Brewers.

Zach Davies (8-4) pitched seven innings of four-hit ball for Milwaukee, bouncing back nicely from his worst start of the season. Keon Broxton added three hits and three RBIs as the NL Central-leading Brewers opened a 1 1/2-game lead over the Cubs.

Atlanta right-hander Julio Teheran (6-6) allowed seven runs and seven hits in three-plus innings.

        CARDINALS 8, PIRATES 4

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Randal Grichuk homered in his return to the majors, Yadier Molina had three hits and St. Louis beat Pittsburgh.

Sent to the minors May 29 after struggling with consistency, Grichuk had two hits - including his solo homer in the sixth inning - and scored twice. Molina, who had missed the previous two games after being hit by a foul tip on the knee, had three hits, scored three runs and drove in a run.

The Cardinals scored four runs in the seventh to break open a tie game. Molina's RBI single off Juan Nicasio (1-4) made it 5-4 and rookie Paul DeJong's two-run single gave St. Louis an 8-4 lead.

Trevor Rosenthal (2-3) earned the win in relief.

        ASTROS 8, MARINERS 2

SEATTLE (AP) - George Springer, Yuli Gurriel and Evan Gattis homered, and the Astros wrapped up another winning road trip.

Houston improved to a major league-best 29-9 on the road. It also owns the top record in baseball at 52-25.

Four relievers combined to shut out the Mariners on three hits for seven innings, with Michael Feliz (3-1) getting the win.

Seattle left-hander Ariel Miranda (6-4) allowed four runs and five hits in 7 1/3 innings.

        ANGELS 4, RED SOX 2

BOSTON (AP) - Parker Bridwell pitched 6 2/3 innings and the Angels scored three runs after their challenge overturned an inning-ending double play in the second.

Kaleb Cowart drove in two runs for Los Angeles, which won two of three against the Red Sox for its fifth series win in the last six.

Doug Fister (0-1) lost his Red Sox debut, giving up three runs and seven hits in six-plus innings. He was signed by Boston on Friday after being released by the Angels.

Mitch Moreland and Jackie Bradley Jr. homered for the Red Sox, who lost their second straight at Fenway Park after winning 10 of the previous 12.

Bridwell (2-0) gave up two runs and seven hits. Yusmeiro Petit pitched two scoreless innings for his first save.

        TIGERS 7, PADRES 5

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Mikie Mahtook drove in three runs, including a tiebreaking two-run single in the ninth inning, and the Tigers snapped an eight-game losing streak.

After Detroit twice erased deficits earlier in the game, Mahtook sent an opposite-field single into right against Brandon Maurer (0-4) that scored Ian Kinsler and Justin Upton.

Bruce Rondon (1-1) pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the victory. Justin Wilson retired the side in the ninth for his sixth save in seven chances.

        REDS 6, NATIONALS 2

WASHINGTON (AP) - Scooter Gennett homered, and the Reds scored five times in the first inning off Tanner Roark.

The Reds won for just the second time in 15 games. Gennett's four hits were his most since he got five while becoming the 17th major league player homer four times in a game on June 6.

Gennett's solo shot in the second was his 11th homer of the season. The second baseman also threw out Brian Goodwin at the plate on a fifth-inning relay, preventing Bryce Harper from recording an RBI on a three-hit day.

Scott Feldman (6-5) pitched seven innings. He allowed both runs on Michael Taylor's 11th homer.

Roark (6-5) gave up six runs over six innings.

        ORIOLES 8, RAYS 5

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Joey Rickard hit a tiebreaking double in the ninth inning, sending Baltimore to the road win.

Caleb Joseph, Trey Mancini and Jonathan Schoop homered for the Orioles.

It was 5-all when Joseph opened the ninth with his third hit, a single off Alex Colome (1-3). Rickard put the Orioles ahead, Schoop was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Adam Jones added a sacrifice fly.

Brad Brach (2-1) earned the win with two innings of shutout relief.

        ATHLETICS 5, WHITE SOX 3

CHICAGO (AP) - Sonny Gray pitched seven effective innings for Oakland, and Adam Rosales and Matt Joyce hit back-to-back homers in the ninth.

Gray (3-3) picked up his first win since May 24. Rosales and Joyce broke it open with their drives against David Robertson and Chris Beck to start the ninth, and Oakland completed the three-game sweep after getting dominated by Derek Holland.

Oakland grabbed a 3-2 lead in the eighth on RBI singles by Khris Davis and Yonder Alonso against Tommy Kahnle (0-2) and Robertson.

Santiago Casilla gave up a leadoff homer to Melky Cabrera in the ninth but earned his 13th save.

        METS 8, GIANTS 2

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Rene Rivera homered twice, Rafael Montero pitched into the sixth inning in a spot start and the Mets finished off the series sweep.

Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce also connected for New York, which had lost four straight and seven of eight coming into the series. Granderson went 2 for 3 with three walks.

San Francisco has lost five straight and 12 of 13. Matt Moore (3-8) was charged with five runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Rivera hit a two-run homer in the second and a solo drive in the fourth. Montero (1-4) allowed one run and five hits in 5 2/3 innings.

          — LSU (-22.5) vs BYU in Houston

          — Michigan (-3) vs Florida in Dallas

          — NC State (-5) vs South Carolina in Charlotte

          — Colorado (-8.5) vs Colorado State in Denver

          — Louisville (-27) vs Purdue in Indianapolis

          — Virginia Tech (-4) vs West Virginia in Landover, MD

          **********************

          Monday’s List of 13: Wrapping up a warm weekend…….

          13) When I was a kid 1,000 years ago, actually 1970, baseball gave the fans the All-Star vote back; it had been taken away after Cincinnati fans stuffed the ballot boxes in 1957.

It was so much fun to take the ballot and then figure out who the best players were at each position. You argued with your friends who was better than who, and that made it fun.

Nowadays, these goofy teams just openly promote fans to vote for guys on their team, even if their team sucks. No one ever mentions about voting for the best players. Every team has to be represented in the game anyway, why not just vote for the best guys?

          12) New York Mets promoted Tim Tebow and his .222 batting average up a level in Class A, I’m guessing to make room at the entry level for the new players they just drafted.

I’m giving Mets’ hierarchy the benefit of the doubt here; they’re having a bad season, I’m just hoping, for their sake, they don’t plan on making Tebow a major leaguer later this season, to inflate attendance when the team is totally out of contention.

If you want to placate the fans, how about making Amed Rosario a major leaguer? He is hitting .320 at AAA and is a solid prospect at shortstop. Fans would love to see a big part of their future play in person. Just a thought.

          11) I was going to give this Big3 basketball thing a shot Monday night, watch some half-court basketball with former NBA players, then I find out the games were played Sunday afternoon. Whats the bleeping point of showing games on tape delay?

By the time the games come on TV, everyone who cares about it is going to know who won.

          10) Oklahoma is a 48-point favorite over Texas-El Paso in the football season opener Sept 2. Sooners have a rookie coach, they visit Ohio State the following week- they’ll have to be looking past the Miners, right? Plus they’ll keep some of their offensive weapons under wraps.

          9) Northern Illinois opened up as a 2-point favorite over Boston College (a MAC team favored over an ACC squad?), but now the Eagles are a 2.5-point favorite.

          8) Eight NBA teams have deals to have advertising patches on their uniforms next year.

          7) June 25, 2010, Edwin Jackson threw a no-hitter, winning 1-0. He threw 149 pitches in the game. Jackson is 93-114, 4.65 in 275 major league starts- this was his 15th year in the majors.

          6) One of the many reasons why baseball is cool is that the ballparks are so different. Sunday in Miami, Giancarlo Stanton hit a vicious line drive for a homer to left field. the ball barely cleared the fence, it was hit so low.

If he hits that same ball in Boston or Houston, it is likely a single, since the fences there are so much higher, and he hit it so hard, the LF would’ve retrieved the ball quickly and it would’ve been hard for Stanton to get a double.

          5) Miami’s Dee Gordon has gone 310 AB since his last home run, the longest active drought in the major leagues.

          4) Ichiro Suzuki became the oldest major leaguer ever to start a game in centerfield when he started for the Marlins Sunday.

          3) Cubs’ SS Addison Russell left Sunday’s game with a bad shoulder, leaving Chicago with an outfield of John Jay, Kris Bryant (starting 3B), Willson Contreras (starting C). Cubs are 38-37 and just treading water; lucky for them, they’re in a bad division and still have a good shot at winning it.

          2) If the baseball playoffs started today (they don’t), they would look like this:
AL: New York-Minnesota-Houston. Wild Cards: Boston-Cleveland
NL: Washington-Milwaukee-Los Angeles. Wild Cards: Arizona-Colorado

          1) A guy named Bo Dietl is running for mayor of New York; he is a former NYC police detective who made $1.8M in 2015 as a security consultant— he’s done some TV work on FOX News and was in the movies Goodfellas and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Dietl has worked for both Roger Ailes and Steve Bannon as a detective in either divorce or sexual harassment cases, so that tells you where his philosophies would generally reside.

Only reason I ever heard of the guy was because he did a TV ad for Arby’s a couple of years ago; looked him up at the time, was surprised to find out he was playing himself in the commercial.

          • MLB notebook: Mets to promote Tebow
            June 25, 2017

The New York Mets will promote former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow from Class A Columbia to Class A Advanced St. Lucie on Sunday.

St. Lucie is the Mets' third-highest ranked minor league affiliate.

The 29-year-old Tebow is batting .222 with three home runs, 23 RBIs, a .311 on-base percentage and a .340 slugging percentage in 63 games for the Columbia Fireflies. He has 69 strikeouts and 23 walks in 212 at-bats.

Tebow was scheduled to play in his final game Sunday for Columbia, before reporting to St. Lucie on Tuesday.

"It's not like he's tearing up the league, but at the same time all of the indications are positive in terms of various things we look at -- chase rates and exit velocity," Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told reporters Sunday. "The bottom line is the average isn't there, but he's improving."

--The Milwaukee Brewers claimed catcher Stephen Vogt off waivers after he was designated for assignment by the Oakland Athletics.

Vogt, 32, was batting .217 with four home runs and 20 RBIs in 54 games with the A's this season when was designated for assignment on Thursday.

Vogt was a two-time American League All-Star with the Athletics (2015-16), hitting .261 with 18 home runs and 71 RBIs in 2015 and .251 with 14 homers and 56 RBIs in 2016.

--The Los Angeles Dodgers placed outfielder Franklin Gutierrez on the 10-day disabled list with an episode of ankylosis spondylitis, the team announced.

Gutierrez's gastrointestinal/autoimmune and arthritic condition has affected his hips and lower body that cost him the 2014 season. Gutierrez, 34, is batting .232 with one home run and eight RBIs in 35 games in his first season with the Dodgers this season.

The Dodgers also recalled up infielder/outfielder Mike Freeman from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take the roster spot.

--Chicago White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodon has rejoined the team and appears ready to make his first start of the season this week after being sidelined due to left biceps bursitis.

Manager Rick Renteria said a return date is not set but Rodon likely will start on the current homestand. The White Sox open a four-game series against the New York Yankees on Monday.

Rodon is 18-16 with a 3.90 ERA in 54 games (51 starts) over two seasons major league seasons.

The Los Angeles Dodgers try for their 11th straight win, which would match the team's best string since 2006. Rich Hill pitches for the NL West leaders when the Los Angeles Angels visit Dodger Stadium - Angels starter Ricky Nolasco has lost seven decisions in a row.

              RANGER READY

Cole Hamels (2-0, 3.03) is expected to return from the disabled list for Texas in the opener of a series at Cleveland. The left-hander has been out for eight weeks with a strained oblique muscle. The Rangers are ready for the help with Martin Perez, Andrew Cashner and A.J. Griffin all on the disabled list - Perez landed there Saturday after catching his non-throwing right thumb in the hinge of a hotel door. Carlos Carrasco (8-3, 2.99) is set to pitch for the Indians.

              ALL SET?

Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury has been out a month because of a concussion, and could come off the disabled list to play vs. the White Sox in Chicago. New York needs another outfielder after Aaron Hicks injured his ribcage on a check swing Sunday, sidelining him at least three weeks.

              ROCKY ROAD

San Francisco righty Jeff Samardzija hopes for better results when he faces the visiting Rockies. He is 0-3 with a 9.33 ERA in three outings against Colorado this season.

              AILING

Cubs shortstop Addison Russell might miss the series opener at Washington because of a sore throwing shoulder. He left Sunday's loss at Miami with a sharp pinching pain, which has bothered him at times since last season.

              STUDY THEM

LSU and Florida begin the best-of-three College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Both teams will save their aces for later - Gators righty Alex Faedo, a recent first-round draft pick by Detroit, and LSU career wins leader Jared Poche, a ninth-round choice by Oakland.

                        • MLB Daily Line Drive: Monday's Picks, Betting Odds and Analysis

                          Double-Play Picks

Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants (-130, 7.5)

As the Rockies open a three-game series in San Francisco against the Giants we must admit...we're a little bit stumped by the moneyline for this one. Why in the hell are the Giants favored over the Rockies tonight?

The Rockies are a terrific road bet in 2017 at 25-16. Sure, they are coming off getting swept in their three-game series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers, but there is no shame in getting swept by a very good Dodgers team and that should be more motivation for them to come out on fire against the pathetic Giants.

The Giants are a mess right now. They were just swept at home by the New York Mets, they've lost 12 of their last 13 games overall, they've lost 10 of their last 11 games at AT&T Park, and they are sending Jeff Samardzija to the mound tonight.

The Giants have lost five of Samardzija's last six starts and they have already lost three of his starts against the Rockies this season. In his previous three starts against Colorado in 2017, Samardzija owns an ERA of 9.33 and a WHIP of 1.64.

Rockies' starting pitcher German Marquez certainly isn't the reason for the strange line. The Rockies have won seven of his last eight starts and over his last three outings he owns a team win/loss record of 3-0, a 1.93 ERA, and a WHIP of 1.14.

Oh yeah - the Rockies have won nine consecutive meetings with the Giants.

                          Pick: Rockies +120

Los Angeles Angels at Los Angeles Dodgers (-225, 9)

The "Battle of Los Angeles" opens Monday night with the Dodgers hosting the Angels for the first of two games at Dodger Stadium, before the series shifts to Anaheim for two games.

Rich Hill gets the ball for the home team tonight and he's been his usual self thus far in 2017 at 4-3, team win/loss record of 5-4, 4.72 ERA (4.09 at home), and a few too many walks. With blister issues being a big problem for Hill, you can pretty much pencil him in for five innings and around two earned runs. With the National League's best bullpen backing him up, his short outings are not a concern.

Ricky Nolasco will get the ball for the Angels tonight and he's the fun one to talk about in this matchup.
Ricky...Ricky...Ricky...what are we going to do with you? Fading definitely seems like the best course of action.

Nolasco owns a team win/loss of 3-12 this season, including team losses in 10 consecutive starts! He is 0-3 in his last three starts with an ERA of 5.89, WHIP of 1.75, and an opponent's on base percentage of .398.

Note: The Dodgers are 42-13 when Cody Bellinger is in the starting lineup. They should probably just keep him in the starting lineup, he'll probably hit a couple of home runs.

Second Note: The Dodgers have won 16 of their last 17 games overall. They have won 10 in a row and have covered -1.5 in nine of those wins.

                          Pick: Dodgers -1.5 (-110)

                          Yesterday's Picks: 0-2
                          Season To Date: 74-62-7

                          Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers

                          Streaking:
                          Carlos Carrasco, Cleveland Indians (8-3, 2.99, $518)

Dropping Carlos Carrasco into our Streaking Starting Pitchers section is an automatic at this point every time he's scheduled to start.

The Indians have won eight of his last nine outings and over his last three he's 3-0, 1.53 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and he has 21 strikeouts to go along with only four walks.

Carrasco and the Indians are -170 at home against returning Cole Hamels and the Texas Rangers.

                          Slumping:
Ricky Nolasco, Los Angeles Angels (2-9, 5.23, $-912)

We don't usually like to feature a starting pitcher in the Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers section if they've already been discussed in the above Double-Play Picks section. However, when you've been as bad as Ricky Nolasco you certainly deserve a double shot.

As stated above, Nolasco is 0-3 in his last three starts with an ERA of 5.89, WHIP of 1.75, and an opponent's on base percentage of .398. The Angels have lost his last 10 outings and for the season he ranks third from the bottom (253rd overall) in Starting Pitcher Betting Money Earnings at $-912.

Nolasco and the Angels are in tough against the Dodgers and can be had at +180.

                                June 26, 2017

Hottest team: Dodgers (10-0 past nine games, 16-1 past 17 overall)

The Dodgers rolled past the Rockies over the weekend in a three-game sweep, putting a little distance between themselves, the Arizona Diamondbacks (2 1/2 games back) and the Rockies (4 1/2 games back). L.A.'s offense continues to post huge totals, averaging 8.4 runs per game over the past nine outings. The Dodgers have the best home record in the majors at 32-10, and they also lead MLB in run differential with a mark of plus-138. Now, the Dodgers will host the Angels in the Freeway Series, looking to keep the Halos down. The Angels have a minuscule plus-3 run differential, they're just one game over .500 and they're 1-5 in their past six trips to Dodger Stadium.

Coldest team: Giants (0-5 past four games, 1-12 past 13 overall)

The Giants were dumped 8-2 by the Mets in Sunday's series finale, capping off an awful three-game set where they were outscored by a 24-8 margin. San Francisco's pitching has been horrendous, allowing an average of 7.7 runs per game over the past 14 outings. The Rockies visit the Giants, and that isn't likely to be the elixir to cure their ills. Colorado completed a four-game sweep of San Francisco June 15-18 in Denver, outscoring the Giants 32-23. The Rockies are just 1-6 over their past seven road games, and they have dropped five in a row. But San Francisco is just 1-5 over Jeff Samardzija's past six starts overall, and the Giants are 1-10 in their past 11 home games.

Hottest pitcher: Gio Gonzalez, Nationals (7-1, 2.96 ERA)

The Nationals give the ball to Gonzalez for the series opener against the defending champion Cubs in D.C. While the Cubs have won four in a row agaisnt a left-handed starter, they're a dismal 5-13 over their past 18 road games and 2-6 in their past eight against teams with an overall winning mark. Washington has won four in a row at home against a team with a winning record, 4-1 in their past five starts with Gonzalez on the hill and 6-1 in his past seven outings against a team with a winning overall mark. The Nationals are just 2-7 in their past nine tries against the Cubs, however.

Coldest pitcher: Ricky Nolasco, Angels (2-9, 5.23 ERA)

Nolasco hasn't been fooling anybody with his stuff this season, as he is tied for the major league lead with 23 homers allowing, including seven homers over 24 innings across four June outings. He has dropped seven consecutive starts, and he hasn't posted a victory since April 27. The Angels have kept afloat despite playing a good chunk of the season without All-Star OF Mike Trout, but they're 0-6 in Nolasco's past six road outings and 7-19 in his past 26 starts overall. They're also a terrible 3-8 over his past 11 outings against teams with a winning overall record.

Biggest OVER run: Dodgers (13-3 past 16 games overall)

The Dodgers offense continues to shine, and bettors are lining up at the window to hit those 'over' results. The over has connected in 13 of the past 16 meetings overall, while going 10-2 over the past 12 vs. RHP. The over is also 4-0 in Rich Hill's past four assignment, and 6-2 in the past eight meetings of the Freeway Series. The over has also cashed in eight of the past 10 home games for L.A. For the Angels, the over is 4-1 in their past five interleague road outings, but the under is 10-2 in Nolasco's past 12 road starts and 9-1-1 over his past 11 starts against a team with a winning record.

Matchup to watch: White Sox vs. Yankees

The Yankees kick off a four-game set at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago as they look to get back on track. While they can be pleased they're still tied for first in the American League East Division, they have dropped 10 of the past 12 to back into a tie with the rival Boston Red Sox. They'll turn to Jordan Montgomery to stem the tide of losing. He is 3-0 over his past four outings, including a win last time out against the Angels. He is a high-strikeout pitcher, posting 71 whiffs over 74 2/3 innings. He earned his first-career win in his second MLB start back on April 17 against the Pale Hose, spinning six innings while allowing three earned runs.

                                Betcha didn’t know:
The White Sox turn to David Holmberg, as he tries to continue pitching well. He is 1-1 with a respectable 3.98 ERA in five starts this season, but this will be his first career outings against the Bronx Bombers. New York has managed just one win over the past six tries against a left-handed starting pitcher, while going 1-10 in their past 11 against teams with a losing overall mark. New York is also 0-for-6 in their past six tries on the road. Chicago isn't much better, though, going 4-14 over their past 18 against teams with a winning overall mark, although they're an impressive 20-8 over their past 28 vs. LHP.
