MLB roundup: Dodgers' Bellinger hits for cycle

MIAMI -- Rookie Cody Bellinger hit for the cycle and Alex Wood improved to 11-0 to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 7-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Saturday night.
The Dodgers have been playing baseball for 128 years, and Bellinger is the first rookie in franchise history to hit for the cycle and the ninth Dodgers player overall. Bellinger singled in the first inning, blasted a two-run homer in the third, slugged an RBI double in the fourth and got his triple when Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton had the ball tip off the top of his glove.
The four hits are a career high for Bellinger, who finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. His homer was his 26th of the season, and it sparked a five-run third inning in which all the scoring was done with two outs.
Wood, a first-time All-Star this year, improved his ERA to 1.56, allowing three hits and one walk in six scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Wood hasn't lost to the Marlins since 2014, going 6-0 against them in that span.
Yankees 4, Red Sox 1 (16 innings)
BOSTON -- Didi Gregorius ripped a go-ahead RBI single to highlight a three-run 16th inning as New York defeated rival Boston in a five-hour, 50-minute game.
Matt Holliday clubbed a game-tying solo homer in the ninth, his 16th of the season, off closer Craig Kimbrel for New York, which bounced back after blowing a 4-3 ninth-inning lead in Friday's 5-4 loss.
Boston's Chris Sale, the American League starter in the All-Star Game on Tuesday, matched a season high with 13 strikeouts in 7 2/3 scoreless innings. The left-hander allowed three hits and two walks before being relieved by Kimbrel, who proceeded to blow his second save since July 3 and his first at Fenway. Doug Fister (0-3) took the loss.
Athletics 5, Indians 3
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Khris Davis hit a two-run, walk-off homer to power Oakland past Cleveland.
Davis hit Bryan Shaw's 3-2 fastball over the fence for his 25th home run and second walk-off hit of the season. Yonder Alonso led off with a walk against Andrew Miller (3-3), who gave way to Shaw, and Davis ended the game.
Oakland rookie Matt Chapman hit his first two career home runs, solo shots in the third and eighth innings. Chapman went 3-for-3, scored three runs and also doubled. He had multi extra-base hits in a game for the first time in his career.
Nationals 10, Reds 7
CINCINNATI -- Anthony Rendon hit two home runs, including his second career grand slam, and drove in six runs to back Max Scherzer's six scoreless innings as Washington defeated Cincinnati.
Rendon was on base five times with a single and two walks for the Nationals. It was his third career multi-homer game. Scherzer (10-5) struck out 10 to extend his National League-leading strikeout total to 183.
The Reds' Luis Castillo (1-2), who picked up his first career win in his last start, worked six innings, allowing three runs, three hits and four walks. Cincinnati scored five runs in the ninth highlighted by Scooter Gennett's three-run homer.
Cubs 10, Orioles 3
BALTIMORE -- Jake Arrieta threw 6 2/3 strong innings in his return to Baltimore and Jason Heyward added a three-run triple as Chicago hit three home runs in its rout of Baltimore.
The Orioles traded Arrieta (9-7) to the Cubs in 2013, and the right-hander developed into one of the game's best pitchers after going 20-25 with a 5.46 ERA in Baltimore. He's 63-28 as a Cub, including two no-hitters and a Cy Young Award (2015).
Chicago received solo home runs from Albert Almora, Addison Russell and Anthony Rizzo. Heyward's triple was the big hit in a four-run fifth inning that gave the Cubs a 7-0 lead.
Brewers 3, Phillies 2
MILWAUKEE -- Jimmy Nelson struck out nine and Travis Shaw snapped a tie game with a solo home run in the eighth to lead Milwaukee past Philadelphia.
Pat Neshek struck out the top of the Brewers' lineup in order in the seventh to preserve the tie, but Shaw connected a 1-1 fastball from Joaquin Benoit (1-4) to open the eighth for his 20th home run of the season.
Jacob Barnes (2-1) walked two in a scoreless eighth inning and Corey Knebel kept Philadelphia off the board in the ninth to lock down his 16th save of the season. Nelson allowed two runs and three hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Rays 6, Angels 3
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Alex Cobb continued his run of stout starts and Logan Morrison and Steven Souza Jr. homered as Tampa Bay defeated Los Angeles.
Cobb (8-6) allowed one run, six hits and three walks in 7 2/3 innings and was in command from the start. It was Cobb's seventh straight start of six innings or more, a career high. He's allowed only 36 hits in 49 1/3 innings during that span and two earned runs or fewer six times.
Corey Dickerson had four hits and Shane Peterson collected three for the Rays, who are 2 1/2 games behind first-place Boston in the American League East. Luis Valbuena homered twice for the Angels, who are 2-6 in their last eight games.
Twins 4, Astros 2
HOUSTON -- Eddie Rosario turned a fortuitous bounce into a two-run double as Minnesota squeezed out a victory over Houston.
With the bases loaded and no outs in the sixth inning, Rosario bounced a chopper off the extended glove of Astros left-hander Tony Sipp. The deflected ball squirted past second baseman Jose Altuve, who was sliding in position to field the grounder.
The Twins' Ervin Santana (11-6) allowing two runs, five hits and five walks in six innings. Relievers Tyler Duffey and Taylor Rogers bridged the gap to All-Star closer Brandon Kintzler, who notched his 25th save with a scoreless ninth.
Braves 8, Diamondbacks 5
ATLANTA -- Pinch hitter Lane Adams delivered a three-run double in a four-run sixth inning as Atlanta defeated Arizona.
The Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin stretched his scoreless streak against the Braves to 27 2/3 innings before a third-inning homer by Brandon Phillips. He was in line for a fourth victory until Atlanta got the best of the Arizona bullpen.
The key two-out hit was by reserve outfielder Adams, who has eight RBIs on his six pinch hits in 25 at-bats this season. Randall Delgado (1-2) was charged with all four runs in the eighth, allowing three hits and a walk while getting just two outs.
Rangers 1, Royals 0
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Shin-Soo Choo's opposite-field single with one out in the ninth inning scored pinch runner Joey Gallo and gave Texas the victory over Kansas City.
Jonathan Lucroy led off the ninth with a single and Gallo ran for him. Delino DeShields' sacrifice bunt advanced Gallo to second. Choo, who was mired in a 4-for-33 skid, singled to left on Danny Duffy's next pitch.
Duffy (5-6) permitted one run on five hits over 8 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked none. Texas' Cole Hamels pitched 7 2/3 innings, working out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth.
Cardinals 4, Pirates 0
PITTSBURGH -- Lance Lynn pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings and singled and scored as St. Louis topped Pittsburgh.
Lynn (8-6) combined with relievers Matt Bowman, Trevor Rosenthal and Tyler Lyons for the nine-hit shutout. Lynn struck out three and walked none as he improved to 5-1 within the National League Central.
Tommy Pham was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Cardinals, who scored one run in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Pirates' Jameson Taillon (5-3) gave up four runs and eight hits in five innings, with five strikeouts and no walks.
Mets 9, Rockies 3
NEW YORK -- Seth Lugo tossed 6 2/3 solid innings and helped his own cause by homering in the third inning as New York cruised past Colorado.
Lugo (4-2) allowed three runs, seven hits and two walks while striking out five. Jay Bruce belted a three-run homer in the first inning against Rockies right-hander Tyler Chatwood (6-11), who got just one out before departing with a strained calf.
Jose Reyes homered leading off the eighth and finished with two hits and a stolen base for the Mets. New York left fielder Yoenis Cespedes left with a leg injury after sliding awkwardly in pursuit of a foul ball in the sixth inning.
Padres 5, Giants 3
SAN DIEGO -- Madison Bumgarner was sharp in his return, but San Diego defeated San Francisco.
Bumgarner, a four-time All-Star and the 2014 World Series MVP, didn't show much rust. He worked seven innings and surrendered three runs and four hits. He had five strikeouts and two walks in a 102-pitch effort.
Hector Sanchez's two-run homer off Steven Okert in the ninth inning was the difference. Sanchez, in the lineup for injured Austin Hedges, smacked the first pitch he saw 407 feet into the left-field seats for the Padres' sixth win in nine games.
Tigers 11, Blue Jays 1
DETROIT -- Michael Fulmer checked Toronto on two hits in eight innings and Detroit utilized the long ball and the wildness of Toronto starter Francisco Liriano in its blowout victory.
J.D. Martinez hit his 15th homer of the season, a three-run shot in the eighth inning, for the Tigers. Jose Iglesias scored on a fielder's choice and Miguel Cabrera clouted a two-run homer, his 12th of the year, during a three-run Detroit sixth.
Liriano (5-5), who left in the third inning without retiring a batter after walking the bases loaded, allowed five earned runs and three hits. Fulmer (10-6) posted his fourth straight victory.
Mariners 4, White Sox 3
CHICAGO -- Nelson Cruz belted a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning, slumping Kyle Seager hit a solo shot in the second and Seattle held on for its third straight victory.
Cruz greeted Anthony Swarzak (4-3), Chicago's second reliever, with his 18th homer on a deep drive to center. Seager's homer was his 11th, but his first -- and only his fourth hit -- in his last 10 games.
The Mariners' Felix Hernandez (5-3) scuffled, but got the win in his fifth start since returning from the disabled list. The 2010 AL Cy Young winner lasted five innings, giving up six hits and three runs (one earned).
