Why not? It's a big cause for the problem.
True, but in essence that it is no different than abortion-you are taking away an exisiting human life;that is different from a life which doesn't yet exist.

Granted we are talking about ideas and concepts here, but the basic concept holds.
I believe that society including ours will some day have to adapt to changes because the circumstances dictate it.
I see overpopulation as a big problem now and one which will have to be solved some day(hopefully as some say by nuclear war).
How this effected is anyone's guess-mine is that it will come down to limiting the number of children a family can have-if something else works better such as Kazdog suggest, than fine-I am all for it-i don't think that will be the case however.
Flying a plane or flying to the moon is completely different than taking away our freedom.

I completely believe that there will never be a blanket quota in this country. They will not take away our freedom. There will be other means by which they do it. I think it will happen, just not by a quota. I'm sure there are many people in this country who wouldn't have a problem with giving $2000 extra to a family for not having a third child. And many prisoners who would love to get out of prison early if they get implants. Although even that is considered unconstitutional. Or allowing free hysterectomies and cash incentives for having one.

The point is here, the government will allow the people to decide and not impose a no choice, quota. And you still didn't answer the question as to what to do with people that have the third kid????

        Won't happen man....

Sorry- I don't understand the rationale or relevance behind this statement in relation to the overpopulation problem, and my contention that some day the number of children one has may have to be limited.

          • Savage,

It's ironic! You want to punish our kids and grandkids. By limiting their god giving ability to procreate and reproduce.

While, our generation is responsible for so many of our problems. Our dependency on oil. Our overpopulation. Our fucked up political system.

Currently, we don't have an overpopulation problem. We have a potential overpopulation problem.

If you're that concerned about this countries overpopulation crisis lessen the local burden by moving to a more desolate area of the country.

You're a hypocrite because you think we have a potential problem but you're not willing to make any sacrifices to lessen that crisis. You want to sanction others.

Something needs to be done. Were running out of water here fast in California. Our schools, freeways, and housing developments are all overcrowded. Mexicans come to this state and have handfulls of kids which then become U.S. citizens. They steal free health care for their entire family, free education for their kids, free school meals for their kids, free food stamps pay no taxes, and free medical care. Legal American workers don't get all of these things. Believe it or not but this country would be much better in the long run limiting families to no more than 2 children.

Remember I am then one who originally posed the question to YOU as to what would happen if a family has a third kid(assuming you meant after receving the monetary incentive).
In essence, I think the answer is that government will realize if they try this, what you and I say could happen WILL happen to such an extent that govt. will realize that it is not a viable alternative to actually limiting the number of kids families can.
Perhaps, if things don't work out, the government will impose mandatory sterilization warnings for those who accept the payment and then have the third child anyways or for that matter without monetary incentives. My
My main point again is that again is that I believe some day limitations on children born will be limited, and that one cannot simply say that it won't be done because of words and terms like loss of freedom, constitutionality, etc.
ps My analogies about flying and space travel were simply made to show that simply because one cannot conceive of something happening ever at a given point in time or whatever reason, doesn't mean it cannot in the future.

Is it really punishing our kids and grandkids to allow them to have "just" two children if the circumstances dictate it?

Sure some have self-serving interests-some don't and share my beliefs with plenty of data to support their contentions.

I don't see how limiting someone to two kids is punishment.

What would moving to a desolate area of the country as you describe it prove or accomplish?
I have a right to a good life (as you do) and beliefs as to what should be done by all of us to curtail what as I perceive as a big and growing problem?

Once again! You want to punish our younger generation for the mistakes and fucked up policies of prior generations.

Why limit the number of kids? Why don't we stop illegal or legal immigration?

I tried to make this same point earlier. The illegals are the ones helping over populate us.People of all races who cant afford to have kids should stop.If your kids recieve food stamps, free school and free medical you should have your tubes tied or your nuts clipped before you can have another one.

I'm still a young one and I would have no problem having 1 or 2 kids. And I agree with you that we need to stop illegal immigration but its obviously not on our governments agenda.
