      KAZ

It also said "And get addicted" Kaz. Let's post the whole quote that you typed Kaz, not just a portion.

Unless he was drug raped, he did CHOOSE to do crack before the addiction ever knew him. How the fuck do you think it starts Kaz? Common sense should tell you that. Should i go rob a bank because i have a plan and i won't get caught like most others do? We have compared crack to Smokes, alcohol and everything else here, why not that.

Again....I'm not arguing that he made a conscious effort to start. You are arguing with yourself if you're trying to say that I'm disputing that. In my comment, I said you guys stated he made a conscious effort to "start." Where is the dispute?

Having said that....There are many factors which go into a person choosing to do drugs. I personally don't believe it's so simple as you make it out to be. Social, mental, peer pressure, heredity can all be factors including many more than that.

I would venture to guess 9 out 10 people have tried some kind of addicting drug. Including alcohol. Some become addicted a lot easier. Read the link I provided. The story about a doctor who became addicted to a drug he believed was going to help him heal and recoup. Your statement makes it too basic. It's just not that simple.....That's my opinion. You're free to have yours as well.

                      I agree.

With that said and knowing a alcoholic can be just as hooked and addicted as a crack addict, my point has been and always will be about the scale of the choice. There is a reason why everybody here has said yes to alcohol at least once in their life but never said yes to crack. The scale of all these addictions has never been questioned by me. I agree with all of you about that, including Chad. Most havn't "Tried" crack because whether or not you get addicted to it, it is something that usually destroys the life and others around you. It is so unbelieveably powerful that most here are scared to death of it and that is why they have said no. You can do crack once and die sitting in your recliner and most know having a beer, a cigarette or even a joint will not do that to you in your recliner. My focus has always been on the choice before addiction EVER knows your name. We have been arguing about addiction for days and for me, once you are at that point there is no turning back. Well, obviously something in your life was wrong long before the addiction to send you down that road and it is unfortunate but most people never gave themself that option. He did and i've never heard why? Someone said who cared how he got there or whatever earlier in the thread but hey, if he is going to pour his life story and heart out to 1000 strangers on the internet, we should be allowed to ask questions and be critical of some of the choices made. It is open for debate once it is posted and talked about.

You can't convince me Chad is at a great place yet either. I might not be an expert but i've heard and watched alot of things in my lifetime and i'm willing to bet some would say his anger here and other addictions that seem to be there on a daily basis are not helping him in the long run. I'm not sure they would agree with trading one addiction for another and i'm not sure if they would be a little more than curious about his anger problems too.

There are a millions out there who are crack heads but i find the reasons before turning down that road to be the most interesting part of the journey to be honest. Alot of times you can see where it went wrong.

I agree with what you're saying. I think Chad has issues and I think he tries at times to deal with them. I think this board has been a good thing for him. Because people are open with him and he is open in here. I've seen a change in him.

I will also further your comment about how most people wouldn't chose to do crack because they know the outcome. That's where the mental part comes into play I think. And where the other factors I listed really come into to play. Because when you start to do pot, or alcohol or some of the other lesser drugs we've discussed, you head down a path and it may or may not get full blown. And for a lot of people, who are weak minded or can't control their inner being, they want to increase the high. Pot or alcohol is no longer enough. And so it starts.....That's where I'll leave it. I think there are many factor which contribute ultimately to full scale addiction. Once you're there, only strong willed people will overcome it....The doctor story I posted is intriguing and scary to say the least.

Okay. With that said, is this place REALLY helping him? Should someone with an addictive behavior far deeper than most go from crack to a gambling forum to be a gambling addict and argue with people every day? I'm sure he will say it helps and maybe it does but wouldn't the 1st and best way to treat a crack addiction be to avoid places just like this? If you are talking about "Support" from others, don't you think they would suggest a forum much different than this one for Chad?

Like I said....I've seen a change in Chad. It may be subtle, but none the less a change. i'm not a doctor or therapist, but if you ask me I'll tell you I am. I'm NOT going to be the one to tell him how to run his life or whether this place is right for him. Only him and who he chooses to help guide his life can determine that.

I think what Greek said is right to a degree. People have this "sharks smelling blood" issue with Chad. I cringe, but I think he'd listen to some of the people on here if they approached him differently. I think he looks up to some and some chose to treat him like a little kid or like a kid that they admonish. In the long run, given his choices in life, he's going to ignore those people and do what he wants. Like so many young adults....Instead of lecturing, try reasoning or teaching.

                            • Kaz,

Is this your 1st day here? There is and never has been any reasoning with Chad. We have found that out a thousand times over again and i saw that the 1st week he was here. He does and says what he wants and he never cares about people until after the fact ... when he apologizes.
