I'm not trying to say it was the right call, but Stoops is a gambler. I've seen Oklahoma do that many times and come through. Just throwing a different perspective out there for you to think about

The probability is never on your side on an onside kick. Texas Tech did it right out of halftime down 14. They recovered it so it was a great call. If they don't, it's a fucking moron call. Get my drift?

I didn't watch the game, but it sure looked like by looking at the stats and drive summary's that Oklahoma couldn't stop the West Virginia run....so how do you keep them from running? Keep the offense off the field.

It was a chance that needed to be taken to keep the momentum however small on their side.

I don't think it was a bad call....it was a gamble that is exceptable in that position IMO.

But KB is right...it's easy to play arm chair qb today. They had to make a fairly quick decision and it was made. Good or bad...

Yea a gambler that has WVU plus the points...

The reason why you dont see NFL coaches do fake FG's and fake punts and onside kicks early games is because they know that the laws of averages arent on your side and sure you may get away with one here and there but if odds arent in your favor is this gonna benefit you in the long run? NO and thats why NFL coaches arent as stupid and are coaching pros.....

Either way, sorry that the Sooners lost outright by 60 as 10 points favs but.......and I thought Louisvilles D was bad but... ok I am done....onside kick was the turning point in the game and shut the lights out...I shut my lights out and went to bed when I seen that...

I agree about tha armchair QB....but honestly you have had a month to prepare for this game knowing full well that WVU rushes the ball with QB sneaks and option plays and they looked surprised to see it or something LIKE WTF....they werent doing anything you didnt expect so WTF is wrong with your defenseive preparation?!?!?!?

                  • KB, sorry buddy...tough pill...my $.02, if it is even worht that.
                    • Stoops made three big mistakes- going for it on 4th down late 1H that luckily didn't cost him anything, the on sides kick and going for 2 pts just before the on sides kick. The reason why I didn't like the kick idea is that he had MAJOR momentum at that point and he gave it all right back. Texas Tech was out of it and had nothing going, so you give it a shot...it wasn't worth the risk/reward last night.
                    • Chado,9 rushing attempts and 10 pass plays in the 2nd quarter for Oklahoma- what else more do you want? They were down 7 points or less until there was 2 minutes left in the 1H...why are you going to throw the ball every down? You can't sling the ball all over the field every play when you are only down less than a TD in the 1H. That makes no sense to abandon your game plan. You have to have balance at that point int he game.
                    • Obviously, Stoops did a shit job getting his team prepared and should be raked over the coals for it. I forgot who posted it, but it was like he thought, like the rest of us, that WVU would not bother showing up and got caught off guard.

Agreed on the defensive preperation portion....obviously wasn't that good.

With that said...you have to make adjustments..you have to make decisions despite what you prepared for a month ago to win the game.

I can't fault them trying to win the game or at least keep WV off the field, because if they just kick it off and WV runs right down the field on a 5-6 minute drive...what have you gained? Nothing.

The frustration is evident, and deserved since you lost money, but IMO...the call was the right one. Just wasn't executed.

                        • Yea 3J....dont even get me started about going for it on 4th down in your own territory in the first half and going for 2 pts early in a game when you dont need them yet...he is an idiot...

                            • Glad Chado dont do this much talking when he wins a game. He'd have more post than KB
I saw stoops do a fake punt a couple of years ago from his own 10 yard line in Alabama and it turned the game around. In your GOY this weekend(over of 6) there was a point scored in 26 seconds and I thought hell this looks good. Not but 1 more till the shootout.Sometimes the shit just don't work out.I agree with KB,if they recover that onside kick and score a touchdown the MO would have deffinetley switched. It might cost him his job one day but he will gamble with the best of them.

I do agree with you that the kickoff was the turning point. It was, imo, too dangerous a play.
