USC-Utah game isn't one for (Vegas) books

At least one sports book takes a six-figure bath when the Trojans originally failed to cover the 8 1/2-point spread before a late return touchdown is eventually counted and they have to pay out again.

USC's 23-14 victory over Utah sent Las Vegas sports books into a tizzy Saturday night.

The game originally ended with USC winning, 17-14. But two hours after the game, the Pacific 12 Conference overruled game officials who had not allowed a last-second touchdown by USC's Torin Harris after a blocked field-goal attempt.

Contacted about the finish by The Times, a supervisor at the MGM Mirage Sports Book said, "That cost us huge. We needed USC to cover the 8½ and when they didn't allow that touchdown, that killed us."

    That was around 10 p.m.

Informed the score had been officially changed, the supervisor said: "I haven't got that information.

"Wait. We're just getting it now."

The switch, he said, made for a six-figure loss for his sports book.

"Now we lose double," he said, "because we'd already cashed out. We can't collect from people we already paid."

I think it is one of the dumbest rules in any sport. How can you stop KIDS from having emotions? Isn't college sports all about having heart, passion and excitement. To take points off the board?? Are you fvken kidding me. I can understand if it gets excessive throw the flag and give them a penalty but taking points off the board is ridiculous. Takes a whole lot out of the game for me.

Absolutely crazy cuz it happened almost 3 hours after the game ended. What happens with all tickets for that game? I don't know.

How many Utah +8.5 tickets were already cashed in, in the Las Vegas windows in those hours? How many USC tickets were ripped up or thrown away? This has to be a nightmare for Las Vegas because i'm sure they paid out a ton already to Utah money and now USC money gets to collect too? And how many people are scrambling looking for the ticket they threw out or trying to tape the ripped pieces back together?

Changing a score is one thing but do it right then and there, not 3 hours later. What a mess!

I agree, what a cluster fvk. Why oh Why do they change these rules???

Makes no sense to me. We did fine for years with the rules they had. I just think these morons just sit around the off season and say, What rule can we change this year??" ... Then another jamoke answers, "Hey, I have one" ...

My book still has me credited with a win but i'm sure that money will come out when all the USC emails are read. That is one thing with offshores, they do not take a hit because you don't take the money and run like in vegas. They just reverse everything on that game and lose nothing.

I have seen plenty of mistakes in the past that were apologized for and never changed. Why this one and why hours later? It has to be the gambling aspect ... has to. I mean why not go back and give the Detroit pitcher his perfect game too? It just never happens. They usually apologize for the mistake and move on. Very weird.
