They drafted a kid last from Vandy that played with Cutler named Earl Bennet, I believe he is all-time SEC leading receiver, if he is ever gonna do anything in the league this is the time. Hester is a BIG ? Im guessing they will try and sign somebody and draft a receiver or 2. The biggest thing of all dont forget the Bears are still gonna be a run first offense, and their runningback led the team in catches last year.
Yeah, I was shocked when I saw Forte led the team in catches last year, if they were going to sign a WR from FA, who do you think would be their first choice?

Or maybe Im not sure on his situation but what about ocho cinco, are he and the bengals still on bad terms or are they allrite now. You figure if there on bad terms you could prob get him for a 3rd to 5th round draft pick

That's an interesting idea, however, would take some cap room. Any idea on what Chicago's cap looks like?

Look at his first round picks in recent years:
The draft is a crap shoot. What's the success rate of first round draft picks? How many first rounders pan out to be worthy of first round picks? My guess is 50% Assuming 50% is an accurate number then in effect Chicago gave up one first round pick. Who wouldn't trade one first round pick for Cutler?

Midway through the 2008 season fans were screaming how the Chargers got the better of the Giants in the Eli/Rivers swap. The Giants coughed up their top pick in the next draft. The Chargers used that pick on Shawne Merriman. After the Giants won the Super Bowl we no longer hear any talk about how lopsided that trade was.

It can work bother ways. Orton will have better stats with Denver than he had with Chicago. He gets better receivers. Better receivers will make Orton a better QB.

The opposite can also happen. A gunslinger such as Cutler can improve the receiving corps on the Bears. If they get some separation he can deliver the ball.

In the end it boils down to one common denominator. The O-line. Protecting your QB gives receivers time to break open. Putting pressure on the QB will make any QB appear average. Ask Tom Brady.

Far too many top draft picks don't pan out. Also, top picks are no longer a precious commodity. Teams don't want to overpay for top draft picks. That's why the Patriots took a second round draft pick. They didn't want a top-5 pick.

Finally, at least with Cutler you know what you are getting. There's less risk with Cutler, an established QB than a rookie. There's too many busts.
Chicago is actually off the hook for a ton of money now not having to sign 2 1st round picks. That is not a bad thing for them.

[QUOTEFrank B]. They've also performed poorly in the draft the past few years.[/QUOTE]

Bingo ... that is why it is such a great move ....

Agreed! This has become a huge problem in the NFL. Teams no longer want high draft picks. They don't want to commit money to untested rookies. It's safer for them to trade for Cutler than dole out similar money for rookies.

Someone suggested earlier that this trade set the Bears back 10 years. Maybe it did. But 2 high unsuccessful draft picks can do the same.

I don't believe that for a minute. It may have set Denver back 10 years, not Chicago. I don't know how Denver will be able to dish out a ton of money on 4 1st round picks in the next 2 years and still have some left to do anything else. Those 4 picks better be guaranteed LOCKS if they use the picks because they will be paid like Super Stars!

I'm not sure they would have taken Orton if that was the plan. Mcdaniels is cocky enough to believe he can turn Kyle into a solid QB. What they might do is trade out and get multiple picks for future drafts ala the Patriots way.

how about hiring a gm that actually knows how to draft.
If a lineman has a bad back you shouldnt draft him number1.

If a running back is a bruiser whose had a shit load carries in college you shouldnt draft him with your number 1.

Learn to draft and that will solve some of the problems angelo.
