What's worse is that Calipari HAD to have agreed to this weeks ago (through his agent).

No way Gillispie would have been fired if kentucky didn't have a replacement nailed down.

Calipari may have been coaching Memphis but he was essetnailly already committed to Kentucky

they had to hit a home run with their hire. Bet they wish Nova would have lost the other night. Jay Wright is a top 10 coach.

I think that Jay Wright was never a really option for this job. Calipari has more credibility and loves the attention that the media, CBS, and ESPN is going to give Kentucky. Plus he has a top 10 recruit that hasn't signed his letter of intent yet that may transfer to Kentucky if he goes.

Oh and Kentucky is returning all 5 starters including Meeks. In Calipari's dribble drive offense it is going to make them an immediate top 10 program and a favorite to win the SEC next year.

There is no way that Memphis can match the amount of money that Kentucky is going to throw at him. Kentucky must of been on the phone all weekend long with boosters wondering how much money they can throw together for Calipari. I would not be surprised to see a 5yr/25M+ contract come out of this.

I don't believe this for a minute. UK never had anyone lined up when they let Tubby go either. Billy G. was about their 4th choice and i think UK thought, at this point, it simply wasn't a right fit with Gillispie. And i think they are right.

Who woulda thunk that the week heading in to the Final 4, UK is getting all the press and Louisville is quietly sitting home. Weird!

2 of the Top 4 College recruits have said they will probably follow him to UK and the 5th best recruit is undecided and leaning towards Calipari too. He could bring a wealth of talent with him. Wow!

Yes, 5 guys that couldn't even make the big dance. lol

Starters coming back isn't always a great thing. Yes, they have some talent there but adding the best and 4th best High School player in America will help. It will give them a ton of depth and talent.

If he takes Henry and Cousins away from Memphis ( their top two recruits), Henry being considered the best high school player in the nation, then this guy is really a tool. Not to mention Memphis is also tops on the list for the #1 point guard in the nation (Johnnie Wall), Kentucky is NOT EVEN ON HIS LIST, watch him scoot over to UK. Memphis has commits from the #1 SG and #1 Center in the nation according to ESPN, and tops for the #1 PG.

TOP THREE PLAYERS are basically committed to Memphis, and this guy is gonna' take 'em over to UK with him!!!!! And you guys are patting him on the back?? FUCK HIM. You're all talking about how great this is for UK, and no one realizes that he is fucking Memphis over BIG TIME!

He'd be taking a better job with more resources and it's a business - plan and simple!

                            I agree with this assessment.
Calipari is just another mercenary who will do what he wants and step over whoever is in his way to get there;he did the same thing at UMass.
In any case I think the situation is sad-I thought the main reason and emphasis for colleges and universities was for higher learning and excellence as opposed to trying to achieve becoming the number one team in basketball or football by any means.
Something seems out of line in these troubled economic times when a school will pay a basketball coach(which is about a four month job) $5 million year to stand on the sidelines and make decisions related to winning a basketball game as well as trying to get others to come to the school who will also help the team win more basketball games.
With priorities like this, it is no wonder that out society is in a sad state of decline.

I agree with you on Calipari being a douchebag.

However, the money thing is not completely accurate. The money these sports programs make, is actually helping to fund the academics. They may pay $5 million for Calipari and another millions here there and everywhere, but they make a lot more than they spend, especially a high-standing program like UK. It's something you can look at as stupid but in the end these programs make the school money, not cost them money. Know what I mean Savage?
