  • Red Sox take the lead in the Santana sweepstakes!!!

Despite the exclusion of Jacoby Ellsbury, Walters says the Red Sox have the lead in the Johan Santana sweepstakes. The package would be Coco Crisp, Jed Lowrie, Jon Lester, and Justin Masterson. Not a bad haul. I was thinking Lowrie might become a target of the Twins.

Wow, if the sox dont give up ellsbury or buccholz its a freakin big time steal for the sox. Lester is not good...Coco sucks and Lowrie and Masterson are just prospects.... I'm calling Shennanigans if this happens!!!!!!

Lester is not good>???? are you kidding.......As of last year 2006 the Red Sox scouting had him rated as the Top Pitching Prospect with Jon Paplebon....

What would make you believe Lester is not good? I mean he has been sick and he made a nice comeback...

Coco sucks?? are you kidding....one of the best defensive cf's in the league.....and his stick is not great but .270ish for most clubs is okay....

But that being said....i still make the deal

I wish baseball would instill a salary cap. There would be more parity and baseball as a whole would be better and benefit more from it. No one goes to D' Ray or Royals games for a reason. They can not afford the talent to win and its sick. Even when they develop the young talent, they just trade them to get more young talent because they can not afford what they developed.

bitch to them because they take the $30 million subsidy each year and pocket it instead of spending on their teams

What a joke. The Red Sox won't trade that little fast guy Ellisbury for Johan??? Hughes is better than Lester, and Cabrera is better than Crisp. I doubt this rumor is true.

ESPN.com says that the Red Sox and Twins have laid the framework for a deal that would send Lester, Lowrie, Crisp, and Bowden to the Twins for Santana.

Lester has two decent years under his belt, he was ok in the minors, 3.92 ERA at AAA 51 K's in 71 innings. Phil Hughes dominated in the minors. Phil Hughes has better stuff and better potential, that's what I base it on.

It would be such a good trade for the RedSox, they can't wait to get rid of Crisp, so basically they'd be upgrading from Lester to Johan. The Yankees would have to trade for Bedard or Haren to even have a chance and neither of those two is Johan. I still can't believe the RedSox wouldn't give up the little speedy white guy Ellsbury to make this trade happen, just because Ben Aflack has a green jersey with his name on the back. We're talking about Johan Santana the best pitcher in baseball, what the hell is Ellsbury gonna do, go first to third on a base hit, big deal?

Wouldn't you take Buchholtz over Lester?

According to the Boston Herald, the Red Sox have made it clear to the Twins that they'd be willing to part with one -- but not two -- from a group of Clay Buchholz, Jon Lester and Jacoby Ellsbury in a Johan Santana trade.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Red Sox have offered Lester, Coco Crisp, Justin Masterson and Jed Lowrie for Santana, which the Twins consider to be the best offer to date.
