  • Founder of Gold Sheet Mort Olshan

Mort was born on April 6, 1926 in Buffalo, New York and passed away Sept 29th. He served in the marines in Okinawa in WWII. He founded "The Gold Sheet" in 1957, a nationally read sports publication that is considered #1 in the industry. His name is one of the most respected in the world of sports handicapping. He had a passion for sports, politics and charitable causes. Mort lived and died with dignity. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, altruism, love of family and tremendous kindness. Mort was an extraordinary and unique person whose enthusiasms touched the lives of many in positive ways. Mort is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sylvia; son Gary, his wife Tami; daughter Debra, her husband Glenn and grandchildren Jake, Zoey and Taylor.

Another excellent week of GS handicapping would be fitting....

Mort Olshan was a true pioneer in the sports service industry. A heavy loss to our gaming friends! God Bless his family in thier loss. Mort stood the test of time and is an inspiration to those of us in the same industry.

      Mort Olshan

Mort was a very respectable man and did quite a bit for the industry. The Gold Sheet set the standard for many other publications and his info and wisdom was very useful and will be sorely missed. JCDSPORTS offers our prayers to his family and friends.
Thanks Mort and you will be missed.
