  • Roof cleaning - pointless?

Not sure if this is just a local fad, but we seem to have a number of houses locally having their tiled roof cleaned. Taking them from a nice weathered brown, to bright clay orange.
I assume this is purely an aesthetic fad?
Perhaps it's just a personal preference, but not quite sure why someone wants to take a well weathered 1930s roof and make it look like a new build. I thought the general advice for clay tiled roofs was if it's not broke, don't touch it.

Hey! I understand why you might think roof cleaning is pointless, especially if it doesn't make a noticeable difference in the appearance or function of your roof. However, cleaning your roof can help extend its lifespan and prevent mold, algae, and other debris damage.
If you're looking for a reliable roofing company to help you with roof cleaning, maintenance, or repair, I highly recommend visiting https://newbraunfelsroofingco.com/. They are a professional roofing company with a team of experts who can provide high-quality services to keep your roof in top shape.

It does seem to be a growing trend, but you're right that many experts advise leaving clay-tiled roofs alone if they’re not causing any issues. The weathered look actually helps protect the tiles and adds character to older homes. Cleaning a roof purely for aesthetic reasons can sometimes do more harm than good, as it may damage the tiles or reduce their lifespan. While some people may prefer a brighter, “new build” look, it’s generally recommended that if the roof isn’t broken or in need of repair, it’s best to leave it as is.

Good point — roof cleaning like that does feel a bit aesthetic-only, especially if the tiles are structurally fine. If your goal is truly value, you might be better off focusing inward rather than investing in flashy exterior work.

For example, instead of spending on roof cleaning, you could use that money to get more practical and helpful tools — like cleaning your inside space better. Think about getting a modern vacuum; even something advanced, like a self emptying robot vacuum mop by Bobsweep (like shown in this video: www.facebook.com/SamsClubCuyahogaFallsOH4750/videos/the-bobsweep-bio-self-emptying-robot-vacuum-mop-is-in-the-club-with-a-jaw-droppi/24260347263592116/), could make daily maintenance way easier and more efficient.
