If you can't go with both size and clarity, i would go with a little more size and less clarity 100 out of 100 times and i know she would want that. It can be embarrassing showing off a piece of salt. Don't do that to her and make her say but look at the "Clarity"!

Who said a grain of salt? I would rather sell someone a nicely cut, SI-1, SI-2 stone with H,I color, smaller stone then a badly cut, I-1,I-2, H-I colored 2 carat stone. The smaller stone will look bigger and better. If someone is more concerned about a hunk of large junk on their fingers then I can get 100's of shitty stones that are large.Combining all of them is the tricky part, and unless you want to spend 50-60k, then something has to be compromised.

And what clarity does Wayne now suggest? And what about different inclusions? You would rather have a 2+ carat stone with a fried egg in the middle then an eye-clean stone b/c it's bigger?

The last time i bought a ring i looked at 2 with the same exact size and look. One for 3 grand, one with clarity for 6 grand. I couldn't see a difference and i went with a tad bigger diamond than the 2 show for 4 grand and less clarity and still thought it looked JUST AS GOOD as the 6 grand ring. Unless you are an expert, they won't know!

Those letters mean nothing to me or anyone else except jewelers.

Look at the ring and buy what "Looks Good"!

You talked about " It can be embarrassing showing off a piece of salt". My point is that a smaller carat weight can appear large b/c of light refraction. No one looks at a ring and says wow that 3/4 carat, or 1 carat. They look at how it appears. How much fire.

Clarity enhanced stones "look good" Wayne. Are they smart to buy? (since you've purchased several rings and have friends that buy also)

1st off when you buy them you shouldn't worry about RESALE because your intent going in is not to break up

2nd, Clarity is GREAT ... In hollywood when you need the best of both worlds to compete!

If you have 2 stones, both 1 carat, color same, clarity same, what will affect the price and appearance the most is cut. A poorly cut stone vs a well cut stone will appear totally different. Very hard to tell color from afar, clarity from afar (unless I-1,I-2 stones),and size, but cuts you can tell immediately b/c of sparkle and fire.
