Dogpick, I can only say I am a Republican because I do believe lower taxes on wage earners fuels an economy. Economics 101, if you want to speed up an ecomony you lower taxes and if you want to slow down an economy you raise taxes.

States like Louisiana have created a whole class of uneducated hopeless people because of social welfare. Take away the dependence on big government and people start to get an education, get on a career path maybe building a business of their own, and discover home ownership.

I do agree with you somewhat on health care, it is disgraceful that a great nation such as ours should have so many people with no healthcare. I do not support outright socialized medicene but I do think on the federal or state level we should offer a stop-loss for major health care expenses.

If your annual health care bill goes over something like $25,000then either you or your health insurer will have reached your stop-loss and the government insurance will take over. I believe this would reduce the cost of insurance so employers could afford the coverage or individuals could be self insured without the fear of losing everything they own. And yes, as much as I hate taxes, this should be paid for with an increase in medicare taxes.
