In some ways parents aren't allowed to parent. Growing up my mom would beat the daylights out of me. If I was unruly in public she wouldn't think twice about slapping me upside the head. Try that now. The parent would be arrested. The worst part. The kids today know it. I've heard many stories of kids calling the cops or family welfare on their own parents.

In no way do I condone child abuse or severe beatings. But a little attention getting smack upside the head never hurt anyone. It hurts our feelings more than it hurts physically.
