They Just gave the Kids in Ft Worth a 10 day Vacation because of it so I guess they are really concerned and the Whole State of Texas Postponed all Athletics until May 11..

Well.... It's here in Maine now, the state closed a school in Kennebunk today and a daycare in Arundel for 14 days each. The state has confirmed two adult cases of the swine flu so far and both people had traveled to the affected area recently. Now a couple of kids are suspected to have come down with virus now, l'm thankful the state is taking action and closing these schools down quickly.

Ya know, It's not that big a deal. Most pigs I know can shake off the flu. Now swine cancer or swine lime disease is a whole nuther beast.

I'm going with #4. It's the flu people. Before we had flu vaccines people would get it. Stay in bed for a few days and then come back. It's not gonna kill you provided you rest and have a healthy immune system to begin with. If you drink excessively or have HIV or some other type of auto immune it may be worse.

Dont forget that there is going to be a major push in the next 1-2 years to try and get socialized health care passed through legislation. The news is covering this like it's a mass cloud of doom descending on us. It's a disease that +98% of people that catch it are going to recover fully from.

I don't want to argue Politics since that thread was closed, but we need Socialized health care. We are the only major Country without it. There's no long lines that you have too wait in. Doctors still make big money and everyone is covered with a health care plan. There's always mention of 47 million without health care, but what they don't mention is how many of the people with health care get denied claims or procedures that they need. Also they don't mention how many people go into debt, because of an illness.

This is part of the circle of life not some crazy end of the world tragedy. No amount of healthcare is going to change that people die from diseases.

As for preventing disease that isn't true. In other Countries Doctors are given bonuses for getting people off of medications say for high blood pressure etc.

The first point is nit-picking. There are legitimate services that government provides such as building roads, law enforcement etc.. I dont have nearly as big of a problem with state functions as I do with Federal functions.

Secondly...To think that we are going to be stopping disease in it's tracks is beyond arrogant. The best thing that we can do is to diagnose the problems and do our best to stop it.

Why do you feel the need to romanticize the way "other" countries do things? Why do we need to be like them? I'm not going to support legalized theft just because "other" countries do it.

And just so you know...I have no health insurance. And neither does my family. So what does my family do to change that? My wife is going to school to be an x-ray tech so that we will be able to have healthcare. Hard work pays off. We made a decision that having a 1600 sq ft house and groceries to feed our 4 children were more important. And I'm sure in your head you're saying "but that's why we want health care. So you dont have to make that choice" Well the problem is that I couldnt give 2 shits about having somebody else provide anything for me. I've been on food stamps before. I've been on state health care. Ive been on renters assistence. I've done everything right in order to get off these assistence programs. The problem is that MOST people dont. They leach the system forever. I'm a very proud person that though I've taken advantage of some of the programs when needed i've never stayed on them for long term. I've never taken a dollar without the proper amount of shame and humiliation that should go with it to motivate you to get out of that situation.

Anyway...there's my answer. And now I can be done with this thread. Sorry if I went over the top and I hope I'm not banned. But that's the response you get when you antagonzie someone. I'll refrain from "political" discussion and stick to my picks...
