    California Bans Gay Marriage
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Despite pleas from Obama, Arnold and Senator Diane Feinstein to defeat the measure, Californian's have voted to ban gay marriages. Rather remarkable from a state that saw a record voter turnout in San Francisco, West Hollywood, and other large gay communities. It shows how independent Californians are, voting heavily for Obama, yet turning thumbs down to gays in the state. According to the new constitutional amendment, only a marraige between a mand and a woman will be recognized in California. I guess that means that all of those fools who rushed out to San Francisco City Hall to get married this week now have to move, because their marriage is no longer recognized.

      Gays react to banning

Demonstrators marched through Hollywood, blocking traffic and forcing police to intervene after the controversial 'Proposition 8' was approved in a referendum.

The proposition asked for the Californian constitution to be changed to define marriage as being between one man and one woman.

The referendum came just months after the practice was legalised in the state and more than 18,000 same-sex couples tied the knot.

The protests mainly passed off peacefully, although a group of about 500 protesters gathered outside the local bureau of media giant CNN, where they banged on the doors and walls.

One protester was seen on TV cameras jumping on top of a police car before he was wrestled to the ground and handcuffed by police.

The ban, approved by 52.1% of voters, was hailed by conservative groups as the people's way of overturning the state Supreme Court's ruling in May that legalised gay marriage.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi

The result leaves thousands of gay couples in a legal limbo after they rushed to get married in California since June.

They include celebrities such as comedienne Ellen DeGeneres, who wed her long-time girlfriend Portia de Rossi, in August, and is understood to be taking legal action arguing that the proposal is unconstitutional.

The talk show host said she was "saddened beyond belief" by the ruling and said she "like millions of Americans, felt like we had taken a giant step toward equality" by electing Barack Obama as president, but with the passage of Proposition 8, "we took a giant step away."

Japanese-American actor George Takei, who played Mr Sulu in Star Trek, married his long-time partner Brad Altman in September.

They were the first couple to receive a marriage license in West Hollywood when California began issuing them to gay couples on June 17 and the actor said his marriage would remain valid

Keep wishing because that will never happen. Not a hateful person at all. Just don't like fags. Remember they aren't born that way they have a choice and they made a disgusting one. So I guess your fine with a rancher molesting his goats if they liked it?

Being born that way is a matter of opinion.

Everyone has a right to be happy. I would have voted to allow it. I am as hetero as they come, but what people do behind closed doors is of no concern of mine.

I respectfully disagree with your opinion.

Were you molested by a gay man in your youth or something? Why so ????

Personally I feel people are born that way, my younger brother is gay and I love him just the same as I would if he was straight.

I personally could give two shits about who's banging who!

                              NeJake,

I agree with you since I had an older brother who was gay, in fact he died from aids at the age of 30. He most definetly was born that way.

I dont agree with all of Weazel's stance but he is entitled to his own opinion.

The point is that the people have voted it down to call it "marriage". Call it a Civil Union and give them couples benifets as well who cares, just dont upset the traditional right of "marriage".

I dont care who they bang, just dont parade around and force your views on others under the guise of discimination or un-consitutional. Both Obama and McCain define marriage as between a man and a woman, both were clear on that in the debates.
