  • to the Chicago locals

Any of you been lately to a blues club called 'Kingston Mines' on North Halstead? I was there about 6 or 7 years ago and was thinking of going back when I'm in Chicago next month. Wondered if it's still a good local music venue. It's kind of a dump, but they had some fine bands when I was there.

I was there in 2002 and ran into Son Seals (RIP). The place is well known for the Stones and Muddy Waters among others that have played there. I also have been to Buddy Guys. I don't recommend going there. Yeah, Kingston Mines is a little on the dumpy side on the inside, but isn't that what a juke joint is suppose too be? I like it how when one band is done jamming everyone goes to the other side and the new band starts. Have a good time where ever you go Garth. If it's the blues you can't go wrong.

There were about 10 bouncers with bad attitudes when I got there after driving around lost forever. You are right, Bear. That is definitely what a juke joint is supposed to be. I remember there being two bands playing on two different stages at the same time. Now that I think about it though, I'm not sure how that could be. It's not that big a place. I got there about 9:30 or so and it was dead. All of a sudden about 10 or 10:15, everyone arrived at once and the place basically exploded into activity. I loved it.
