There are so many people here devoted to sports and action which got me to thinking that there must be some superb stories out here on meeting sports stars and the like. Share some of your stories as it opens up interest in learning how real/unreal some of these individuals are in reality. Here are some of mine:
    1. Billy Wagner - he went to my rival high school in VA, the kid was a stud in high school. I dated a girl from said high school that was his old ex, which I didn't know until one night we were both at a house party. It took Billy one punch and I was on the floor. I got my ass knocked down by a future stud in MLB!
    1. Mike Compton - was 2 years ahead of me in high school. Big, hulk of a human being. He went to star at WVu and then played with the Pats as center where he played in Super Bow XXXVI. Guy was chill and cool, partied with him many times during high school.
    1. Dick Vitale - I was studying to earn my CFA charter by attending a week long course in Denver about 4 years ago. After an all day session, I went to the lobby to find Dickie V hanging out. I approached him and chatted with him at great lengths. He was awesome as he made me feel like he really wanted to hear about the exam and certification. He chatted with us for 15 minutes and left when his wife arrived. I don't care what people think about him, he was the most human, sincere and entertaining indvidual I have met in terms of being famous.
    1. Terryy Bowden - I went to Tempe to attend the very first BCS Championship game between FSU-TN. My graduate roomate went to FSU so I hung out with Seminole alums the entire week. We drove to the Grand Canyon for the day and upon coming back, stopped at the IHOP. In the corner, about 3 tables away was Terry and his party. At this time, there were tons of rumors that Bobby was stepping down to let Terry take over as he left Auburn recently. My table went up and talked to him. He was entertaining and friendly and posed for a couple of photos. When asked if the rumors were true, he just said to stay tuned. It never happened, but it made us all feel as we were ahead of the curve in news. Very nice guy.
    1. Gene Stalllings - When we were in Tempe for the game, we stayed at the Hyatt in Scottsdale. Very nice resort and set up. Our next door neighbor was Gene Stallings who just gave us a nod and refused to talk as he always seemed to be in a hurry. Didn't matter, it was cool to stand a foot away from a great ball coach.

As you can tell, I am bored at work today, but thought this was would be entertaining to hear some good stories out there.

    Bonus material
+ Dan Ackroyd - back in my undergrad days, we woud trek out to Mardi Gras as it was about 8 hours from Atlanta. The second time out, we decided to catch the Radiators at the House of Blues. I was on esctasy at the time and just wigging my nuts off. I had to wizz and made a mad dash through the crowd. Bam, I ran into something solid. When I realized it was a person, I had to apologize. I looked up and it was Dan Ackroyd who asked if I was okay. I couldn't speak. He said to have a good time and the bathroom is that way, and walked off. He is taller than I expected!
+ Mike Stipe - Met him at a cool watering hole in mid-town Atlanta. He was on a bench with a guy and girl. Numerous of us tried to talk to him but he was a complete ass about it. Really strange guy. He honestly seemed to be with both in a sexual way.
+ My admissions officer - After getting booted from a fine college in Atlanta for being a divot, I regrouped and applied to a small college in TN about 2.5 hours from my hometown. Given that my grades were not solid, I really got to know the admissions officer well who let me in after hearing my story. I would come by and chat with him often during the year. He told me stories about his two sons, one of which was going to attend UVa in the fall. I even met him and his brother when they came by the campus once to hang with pops. They turned out to be Thomas Jones and Julius Jones, who later attended ND.

Met the entire Rangers team at a charity function once after having brunch. Just kind of stumbled into the party as it was half was through. Got pictures taken with Brian Leetch(on his way out was nice enough to stop and take pictures and autograph them and my hat - wife was gorgeous too), Mark Messier, and Mike Richter to name a few. All were the nicest guys signing everything you had.

Met Steve Carlton in Cooperstown. Talked with me for a good half hour after his signing session was over. Tried to teach me how to throw his slider as best as he could. One of the nicest men I have ever met.

Played with Jason Marquis on the NY Metrostars traveling baseball team. Had to try out to make it and select kids were taken from all over NY. This was the year before Jason signed with Atlanta.

Played with and actually hit off Rich Scalamandre(now with AAA or AA Atlanta). Not the greatest of stories but hey hes a pro ball played lol.

Played a pick up game with Ben Gordon. I am not far from Mt Vernon and a friend was actually really close to him. This was after UCONN but before the Bulls. Needless to say he dominated that game in every aspect of the word.

Played basketball and had lunch with Mariano Rivera. He came to my beach club a few times before he was the closer. Was nice enough to sign many balls and play some hoops with us. Good thing he stuck to baseball.

Played cards online and in person with Wilson Chandler, 2007 1st round pick of the NY Knicks. Waiting to see if thats a story I continue to tell or just forget about depending on what he does. Still talk to him every now and again, very down to earth kid hope he stays that way.

Met Brian McCann and Jeff Francouer before a Mets/Braves game. Made sure every kid who was there got an autograph. Nice kids, more than I can say for David Wright who shunned everyone.

Met Tino Martinez before a Yankees game once. That man was one of the nicest people. Signed everything for everyone. Spoke with me for about 5 minutes after people were leaving. Answered all questions from everyone. Great person to chat with. Apparently really wanted to come back to the Yankees.

                - Played hoops in high school against LeRon Ellis, Bryan Williams (Bull who changed his name to Delo something), Todd Marinovich (atcually blocked his shot!)
                - Met Hank Aaron (real nice guy), Yaz (nice guy), Wally Joyner (nice guy) and Willie Mays (not so nice) at cards shows
                - As kid met Jim Rice at an Angels, he was total ass to my grandpa, who happened to be life long Red Sox fan.
                - Drank beers with Dave Henderson (Seattle Mariner, Boston Red Sox etc)
                - At Marjele's during Spring Training ran into to Paul Westhead, Mark West and Connie Hawkins...all cool guys
                - I have met James Donaldson and Johnnie Johnson. I went up Donaldson and called him Buddha and he smiled. Johnnie thought I was an athlete because I was wearing a big championship ring ( I was PR guy a pro soccer team and we won the the title in mid 1990's), but when saw that it was "soccer ring" he acted all big time with his Sonics 1979 ring...I laughed.
                - Had a beer with Chris Berman, Rick Sutcliffe after a playoff game in Seattle. They were bar hopping enjoying the scene.
                - Played golf with Jay Johnstone a few months back at the Steve Beurlein Annual Golf Tourney, met Steve as well as he an alum of my high school
                - Before John Stockton reported to training camp for the Jazz, he would stay in shape by practicing with the Gonzaga squad in Spokane. As I walk-on that year, I had a chance to practice with him. No doubt the quickest and most skilled player I will ever face in my lifetime.

Cussed out an incredibly drunk Mike Dunleavy in a bar on his 25th birthday for not giving me a fist pound...this chick he was with kept trying to say it had been a long night but I was blitzed and went off...He just stared with his hanging jaw

Took pictures with and have seen Baron Davis many a time in San Francisco...real low key vibe to him, but he did get a little animated when he thought my friend was pushing his woman (pretty hurt looking broad, think its his high school sweetheart)

Spoke briefly to Ricky Henderson at an airport...real friendly

Drank a shot with Ike Diagou in an Sf club my friend runs...same place I have partied with many Oakland Raiders...including the recently released jared cooper (drugs suspension).

Went to a Warriors afterparty when they clinched vs Dallas...Baron grabbed the mike and was swearing up a storm, all this West Coast hype (we were lovin it). Matt Barnes had woman all over him, Stephen jackson sat in the corner with a hood on and a whole champagne bottle. Al Harrington looked like elmer fudd w this little camoflauge hat.

Bo Jackson used to bang one of my moms real good friends so I got to talk to him on the phone, he was super nice and sent me his bat with my name burned into it right under 1985 World Champions..

Went to baseball camp @ Vero Beach FLA (dodgers spring training facility) and roomed with Frank Violas son...kid was a total tool, decent ballplayer but he spoke w his dad on the speakerphone all the time...Frank seemed cool and I met him when he came to pick up Frank Jr. he was real proper and friendly.

Did a "personalized jackass" involving Michael Johnson (sprinter) where I videotaped my friend continuing to ask him questions at a local ****...pretty funny, he got pissed quick.

Have met most of the famous poker players at the Bellagio, I played all night and they all showed up in the morning. Eskimo Clark was the coolest that i talked to.

Seen a few others out and about in Vegas but didnt talk to them. Evander, Bibby, Phil Ivey

My company wired Rick Pitino's basement, i met him at his home several times while the work was being done.

                        He is very personable

I played in a Texas holdem tournament at Denny Crums house, he sat next to me and i put him out. He is a cranky ole dude, he is quick to tell someone if they arent playing the game the right way.
