You are awake during the procedure which is a little scary. They give you option of taking a zanax. What they do is put a ring around your eyeball to hold it still. Then they slice it which is scary because you see nothing but black for a few seconds. Then next you hear a clicking sound which is the laser performing the procedure on your eye. You dont feel a thing.
I highly recommend it.Last edited by WayneChung; 06-11-2007, 02:55 PM.DON'T YOU EAT THE YELLOW SNOW !!PS-MARVIN LOVES SPLIT SALAD !!

I had a Corneal transplant back in 1995 due to a terrible car accident (had stitches in my eye for 2 years ) I had this done at the Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia (best eye hospital in the country ) For anyone with serious eye concerns I would highly recomend them....2 of my coworkers had the lasik done at their local eye doctors...1 said it was great and no regrets...the other said his eyes are always dry since the surgery....dont take chances with your eyes and dont let price determine your decision...good luck to all looking to improve their vision

Originally posted by GookisI did go for the preliminary appointment to see if I was a good candidate about 1 month ago. Unfortunately, I wasn't a good candidate. However, I did get all the info. You are awake during the procedure. It only takes about 30mins (a few hours with all the prep time), and the laser is actually only on your eye for something like 30sec each eye. When they did my initial exam, they said I "showed signs of a potentially weak cornea". They said that the surgery would increase my chances of cornea problems down the line. There was no guarantee that I would have the problems, but it did increase my chances, so I chose not to do it.....just not worth it. So, make sure you go to a good doctor. My guy said that a lot of people would have just taken my money and would have done the surgery.....not telling me the "whole truth".
He did offer me another solution called epilasik. This is a procedure where basically instead of cutting the flap in my eye and then doing the laser work, they "push the cells aside" and then do the laser work. Thus, not cutting into my cornea so deeply. He said the procedure is safer and just as successful. I asked: then why doesn't everyone have this done? He said that the recovery time is much longer. With normal lasik, you walk out that day, and within 24 hours, you are 20/20. With epilasik, it is a minimum of like 5 days until you can go to work, and it can be weeks or months until you have "caught up" to a lasiks patient. Again, chose not to do it....just not worth it for me.....yet.
With all this said, do your homework and make sure you use a good Doc, not just the cheapest. People who I have talked to and had it done, DO LOVE IT.
Sorry for all the typos...in a hurry.
Hope this helps.

You can't move your eye though right? In other words they use a numbing gel on your eye?

Permanent lenses....
My wife just had the permanent lenses implanted in her eyes. First eye was done in January, they wanted her to wait 90 days for the second eye and it was done in May. Her vision was to bad for the lasik (cornea not ***** enough to cut enough)...after the surgery on the same day her vision was 20/15 and we went to the movie...no problems...just uses eye drops sometimes. Vision is great!!
The only difference is that if you are looking at the person with the permanent lense...their eyes look like a "deer in headlights" when the light shines acertian weay on her eyes....just like at night time when your headlights on a car shine into an animals eyes on the road.
Hope this helps!

Was she far-sighted or near-sighted? or both?
And is this a permanent fix or do you have to redo it later on?

boss i had cataract surgery done and i was right at legally blind,i also have problems with glaucoma,my vision went from 20-1500 to less than 20-200,my eye doc said we may do a small lasar procedure to help with the pressure causing the glaucoma,as to how long the cataract or contac implants last, you would have to check with your optician but i am sure it varys with the individual // my doc said in one to 10 years, there could be some scar tissue build up from the cataract surgery but so far no trouble,i was like the lady above,my vision was too bad for lasik,if your vision is 20-400 or less,i would think long and hard before putting a lasar to your eye and discuss the other options with your doc...DON'T YOU EAT THE YELLOW SNOW !!PS-MARVIN LOVES SPLIT SALAD !!
