I have both dishes because I have Dish Network as my regular TV but need Direct TV for the NFL Ticket and March Madness Tourney.

Direct TV has the NFL ticket. I feel that Dish Network is a much better dish service though and a little bit cheaper.

      Hope this helps.

I have Dish Network with HD and two room DVR recorder. I can recieve 27 HD channels...amazing picture.

Love it...only wish I could get the NFL package with Dish. I have purchased the MLB and NBA packages in past years and it is great.

It always comes down to one thing - NFL TICKET

If you want all the NFL games, you have to get DirecTV. I'm a little disappointed in their costs for all the HDTV programming compared to cable, but the year I was without NFL Ticket was the longest year of my life!!!!!

Dish actually has considerably more HD channels. They purcahsed all the VOOM channels, and there are somehtin glike 24/27 HD channels. DirectTv has maybe half that.

Direct is god awful in my book. I had one of the worst experiences ever with that company. I was with Dish (non HD) for years. When I bought the plasma I decided to give Direct a try for one reason. They had a 30 day trial where you could cancel the service with no questions asked. I spent $400 to get their HD/DVR box, and confirmed on at least 7 occasions with 7 different reps that I would get this $400 HD/DVR expense back, and that I would get my locals in HD.

LIES on both ends. After installing the box I realized my locals werent HD. I called and was told that the HD/DVR box wasn't capable of getting the locals. YOu could get hte locals in HD with their free box, just not the "upgraded" HD/DVR box I spent $400. Yeah, makes a lot of sense.

After learning this I of course decided to cancel b/c the locals is about half the reason for getting HD. So I go to cancel and guess what, they tell me I can't get a refund of teh $400 I spent on the box. It was just the programmin I could cancel. I spent at least 20 hours on the phone (probably 19 hours on hold) and spoke to about 12 people along the food chain. I explained THEIR reps told me I would get a refund of the $400 before I agreed to sign up. Well, they don't care what their reps said, no refund.

I decided to call Direct back and this time recorded the conversations. I called 9 times, and ALL 9 times their reps said (on tape) that the HD/DVR box does get the locals in HD (Lie #1) and that I would get a full refund of my $400. 9 tries, 9 times!! I called back and s/w one of the higher ups and played the tapes. Their response? Not sorry, but they told me I shouldn't have recorded their conversations. After telling them to fuck themselves and that in Georgia it is legal to record conversations, they STILL told me sorry no refund. After spending another 10 hours I finally got them to refund my money.

The final straw is that we just got the bill in, and they tried to charge me another $187 for the programming I canceled within their free 30 day trial. They finally waived this after another hour on the phone.

                    Direct is the worst.

I switched back to the Dish HD/DVR two tuner box and love it. Zero problems.

I have the digital Gold package with DVR through Time Warner. Literally about 600 Channels. I have the HDTV and that box too. My cable bill is about $150 a month but i have high speed internet included in that as well. I love it. I love the channels and choices i have. It is NEVER OUT and clear as can be 24/7. We have about 25 HD Channels and it is CRYSTAL clear. If you have never seen the difference in a regular channel and HD ... Check it out!!!!

I'm not a fan of the "Dish". My sister lives 2 miles away and she has one. It was installed 2 years ago and she has had nothing but problems. Wind, rain & snow, knock out her reception ALL the time. She HATES it but she lives on a private road with zero cable access.

I know at least 5 others with a dish too and they say the same things. Some have better luck than others but overall it goes out here and there.

If that shit ever happened to me while watching football on a saturday or sunday ... I would be PISSED!!!!!!!

i, like wayne have timewarner cable. i dont mind it @ all. about 20 or 30 HDTV channels. actually if you want to play the $7.95 a month more you get an additional 20 channels which include YES msg neither of which i got any interest in....lol. anyhow i get 2000 channels on my box here and all in digital quality. 100 music channels east coast/west coast feeds of many stations. hbo, showtime, skinAmax, tmc, starz, encore etc.... road runner internet, and digital phone $150 a month.

only thing i dont get that pisses me off is ESPNU. for some reason they dont or havent negotiated it around here. i dont know, i also have ordered nba league pass and mlb extra innings. i've never had a problem with digital cable. i wouldnt even get dish for NFL package. F that $200+ for 1 day of viewing......IMO totally not worth it. i aint got 12 TVs to watch all the games. i can go down to the local watering hole and watch every game on one of the 2doz TV's they have. nfl ticket there is FREE....oh and $1.50 pints and 25cent wings all day long on sunday!!!!

                            Bryan,

Your getting a better deal than me. I have all the music stations and stuff too but not nearly as many channels. I pay the 7.95 each month for the HD. I had Adelphia until a month ago when Time Warner bought them out. I called to get the digital phone and Time Warner said it is not available yet. Soon they said and they told me i have everything they offer at this point with the digital gold package.

                            I want 2,000 channels!!!
