Originally posted by Flavio4321OK, first let me say that I am from Argentina, and I´m currently living in Spain, so I just want you to hear something from outside the US, although it has been said in this thread that "but this (the US) is one Country that (for the most part) don't give a fuck!".The first thing to enjoy something is to know something about that, because if you don´t know anything you can´t realize the ideas, the strategy, and everything else. The best example I think is a chess game, I think you get my point.
I enjoy watching some american sports, for example I pay a special cable bill to watch NBA games, and it´s amazing, but there is other games that it is imposible to watch for me, for example every year I try to watch the superbowl, and inevitable after 30 minutes I get bored and I turned off the TV, probably it is because i don´t even know all the rules ( by the way how many of you know the rules of soccer, how many of you can explain the off-side rule in soccer?).
The Soccer World Cup is the most seen sports event in the world ( there is more people watching the soccer world cup than the olympic games, and certainly more than watching NBA, NFL NHL or whatever you want). I know, I know, don´t yell at me, the people in the forum is 95% from the US and as previously said americans don´t give a fuck what the rest of the world think.
To finalize I want to tell a real anecdote, probably you dont´t know but Argentine is one of the favourites to win the soccer worl cup, In Argentina the goverment passed a law that if a game is played at 3PM when children are in school, the class has to stop, the school has to provide a TV so every person in the school can watch the soccer game, after the game is finished the teachers can resume the class.
So, if don´t enjoy watching soccer don´t do it, but saying that it is boring is not a good idea, probably is better to say that you just don´t understand the game.
Good Luck to all!! and don´t get mad at me.

IMO----Soccer is one of the most fascinating Sports ever.....0-0 games merely indicate great defenses.....you have to watch the potential set ups for goals, and the strategy that is involved.......
Yes there are plenty of flops, damn near as many as in a basketball game........
Once you play Soccer, get involved, in Coaching, Refreeing (I'm a certified USSF R2)(went to school for it), former Coach (President of local club), coached and watched my 6 sons play the sport, and now my grand kids..........
In the US, it is a misunderstood, and under evaluated Sport, yet it is the most played Sport in the World.........I can readily understand each's opinioin on boring.....but, once you learn it, and how to watch it (what to look for), it's a fascinating game........
I find Hockey hard to watch (exception --the fights), because I don't understand the sport, know the rule, never been exposed to it as a player, coach, refree, or even a fan.....I'm Ignorant to the Sport itself.........I'm sure once I learned the strategies, strengths, weaknesses of the Game, I'd enjoy it...
One good thing about America, is freedom of opinion and speech, I just ask you guys to give it a chance..........It's now in our Hi Schools, and Colleges as a major sport........
I totaly respect your opinions, now you have mine..........
PS---I had some all state athletes (foot ball and base ball) come out to play on our Soccer teams, and these guys couldn't get over how "Difficult" that Soccer is.....they learned to love it, and became great players...........
Best to all of you----kapt

kapt, The U.S. had ONE shot on goal in the whole game. Was there 1 minute of that game that did ANYTHING to make a U.S. fan cheer? Even a baseball team that loses 10-1 will let the fans celebrate something once. ONE SHOT!!!!!
Yes, it was off the post. Very exciting i guess ... for about 4 seconds!

It is terribly hard to get a soccer ball from your end, to the other teams end, and then score, using just your body, head and mostly feet.........defenders on you every where you go....It's a chess game, waiting for one opening, one defensive mistake.......
I agree that in a 90 minute game, probaly less than 5 minutes of it is on goal(exciting potential scoring).........I relate that to American Football, where the last 2 minutes is generally the most exciting.......
PS---the USA team is very weak this year..., and I personally don't think Brazil (#1 rated) will win it...........

Take care Bruuuuuuuuuuuther

I do think the game is Super.........watching the set ups on passing, and waiting for someone to be in the wrong place, and your teammate in the right place, initiating a possible scoring opportunity....
But thats me----kapt
