Molta, have you tried decaf? I little fired up tonight. I agree about the 'C', I completely disagree about him being an overrated stiff. One of the better catchers in the AL.

          I am little fired up......

Anyways, people around here in New England act like this guy is the best friggin catcher ever, and no one ever questions him. When Bard was struggling with Wakefields knuckleball, where was the big Captain then stepping up and catching him. He didn't, he needs his precious day off every 5 days. Not what a captain or team leader would do IMO.

Some guys don't catch certain pitchers. If I remember, Posada didn't catch RJ last year. So what...I pitcher has a preference and Varitek struggles with the knuckleball. It has nothing to do with being a leader or a captain.

Hmmm...almost identical career numbers to Posada, so I guess you think Posada can't hit.

Choker would be the 2004 Yankees, not Varitek. You just hate him because he gave A-Job a leather sandwich after telling him Pedro wouldn't hit a .250 hitter!

Ok, that is even better! He doesn't like RJ so he doesn't catch him, or visa-versa...these guys are grown-ups, right? tell me he can't catch him because he struggles with his pitches. Tell me RJ has more confidence in another catcher...I have no problem with that. But they don't like each other? Did RJ steal Jorge's bike? Allowance? Boyfriend?

I understand what you are saying, but think this situation is a little different. Bard is a young guy who they brought in a month before spring training, and had never caught a knuckle ball. He was absolutely terrible, and while he was clearly trying, he simply couldnt catch Wakefield. At no point did Varitek every step up and help the young kid out and catch Wakefield. IMO, if someone is a captain, they should step up in that situation, and maybe decide for the good of the team, he can skip his day off.

                          • While he is not the Captain, he is a senior member, and showing leadership would be putting aside individual differences. So I guess you are saying that neither RJ or Posada are leaders?

Neither of them go around with a giant C on their jersey.

Molta, did you watch Varitek try to catch him last year? He can't catch the knuckleball! He was worse than Bard! That is why Mirabelli did it, not because he needed a rest! When Mirabelli was hurt last year, Varitek tried and failed miserably...I believe they brought up Shoppach, who they traded to Cleve this year for Coco....
