Originally posted by Three JackMolta, have you tried decaf? I little fired up tonight. I agree about the 'C', I completely disagree about him being an overrated stiff. One of the better catchers in the AL.
Anyways, people around here in New England act like this guy is the best friggin catcher ever, and no one ever questions him. When Bard was struggling with Wakefields knuckleball, where was the big Captain then stepping up and catching him. He didn't, he needs his precious day off every 5 days. Not what a captain or team leader would do IMO.

Choker would be the 2004 Yankees, not Varitek. You just hate him because he gave A-Job a leather sandwich after telling him Pedro wouldn't hit a .250 hitter!Three Jack's Record http://www.bettorschat.com/forums/sh...10#post1323910

While he is not the Captain, he is a senior member, and showing leadership would be putting aside individual differences. So I guess you are saying that neither RJ or Posada are leaders?Three Jack's Record http://www.bettorschat.com/forums/sh...10#post1323910

Originally posted by molta02I understand what you are saying, but think this situation is a little different. Bard is a young guy who they brought in a month before spring training, and had never caught a knuckle ball. He was absolutely terrible, and while he was clearly trying, he simply couldnt catch Wakefield. At no point did Varitek every step up and help the young kid out and catch Wakefield. IMO, if someone is a captain, they should step up in that situation, and maybe decide for the good of the team, he can skip his day off.Three Jack's Record http://www.bettorschat.com/forums/sh...10#post1323910
