  • Booking question. Cops?!?

My buddy and I run a mid-size book and we're having serious problems with a "client". He owes us some cash and will not pay up! We've called him repeatedly and have threatened him but to no avail. This is surprising since he has paid us a couple of times before. Recently, he has said that he will "tell the cops" if we don't stop harassing him. My buddy and I have an ex-college lineman friend that we're prepared to use to help us collect if we need to. We've told the bitch who won't pay up about our "big friend" but it doesn't seem to phase him. He told my buddy today that if we threaten him or if he experiences any bodily harm, he will "tell the cops" about our illegal book making. The money he owes us isn't a lot but it is the principle behind the fact that he needs to pay up, which I'm sure all of you understand. My question is... If police are told about our book, will they do anything about it? What's the "legality" involved? Felony, misdemeanor? Any answers or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks, guys.

first off, get rid of any paper sheets u have around the house..even newspaper lines! and clear your history from your computers asap and just go to the sites when needed...second if its not alot of money fuck him and never take a bet EVER again from that cheese stick never! or even people associated with him....forget the money, take the hit for the week and forget him...and lastly use your cell phones for betting, never the house phone.....other than that fuck that kid forget about him and keep bookin!

Well..firstly, you have threatened him and a threat is a felony alone. All he has to do is have a recording of you saying or email of you saying my buddy is going to come over and settle this and you can be put away..You can be charged with money laundering which is a serious felony and also illegal bookmaking(i think thats what its called) which is also a minor felony...So i would tell you to stop and leave it alone before its a serious problem for you

All I can tell you is that if you have multiple clients and lots of money changing hands it could get serious. Now if he is bluffing don't worry about it. You better watch what you do and clear the paper trail if you know what I mean. As far as wooping someones ass that could be for any reason but it still will not help you in the long run. Actually if someone whips his ass I would almost grant you he will not pay anything. All you can do as a book sometimes is just lick your wounds and go on. My two cents on the situation.

This reminds me of the movie Bronx Tale. The kid owed the one kid $20 and Sunny, the boss, told the kid to forget about it. It cost you $20 to get this guy out of your life, because he'll never call or bother you again because he owes you money.

In my opinion, take a stiff is part of the business, I have stiffed a book one time but it was kinda his fault. after i asked him for an extra week to pay, he tried limiting my bets to 100 max, with a max loss of 500. nice hit for him, he bangs me out when im betting 2 3 4 hundred, then wants to cap it. So i don't feel bad about that stiff. I used to run a poker game and entertained the idea of starting a book. But I never did it cause i didnt' want to go after my friends for money. I think haveing the right clients is step one, and step 2 is being prepared to be stiffed every once in a while.

Forget about it --- move on----just don't take any more of his bets, and you could call all the other books you know, and ruin his name....

Don't be surprised if you find out he stiffed them also---kapt

No offense, but to admit to bookmaking on a public forum is not a wise thing to do.
You might be surprised as to reads these threads besides gamblers, and believe me if someone wanted to track you or anyone down in this day and age, it wouldn't be too difficult.
I am not trying to be confrontational but I am 61 years old and know what can happen, and it ain't pretty!

try the mental approach "hey we had a deal, we would of paid you if you won" and "listen i did not tell you to take the teams that lost, you did it." also if he has a fiancee/girlfriend threaten to tell her. they will love to know the $$ is not going towards them. based on a true story

Run like the wind and forget about him. I've got a guy that I referred and in only two weeks he negotiated a "settlement" just to get out of the debt he had already accumulated. There's always gonna be stiffs out there and it's best not to attract attention. Wait until it's forgotten and passed and then have someone kick his ass out of the blue(if it makes you feel better).

Have your boy beat his fucking head in. This will show you aren't to be screwed with and will send your other players a message Pay up. Just make sure that you have all your slips, records etc gone so there is nothing that can tie you to any involvement. And don't talk on the phone with this guy anymore. If he wants to talk with you or your partner meet him in a public place. I hope you get paid
