          Miami Herald/Jeff Shain's predictions

          • Florida State 41, Duke 6: Poor Dookies. It's bad enough as the ACC's punching bag without having to face FSU coming off a loss. Blue Devils are 110th or worse in every major offensive stat. Seminoles cleanse themselves of last week's aggravation by sometime in third quarter. (Favorite: FSU by 30.)

          • Texas 48, Texas Tech 28: Oklahoma was supposed to give the Longhorns a challenge. So was Colorado. The way things are humming right now, it may not matter who lines up across from them. Tech's offense isn't so potent away from Lubbock, as evidenced by near-upset at Nebraska. (Favorite: Texas by 16.)

          • Tennessee 17, Alabama 13: Health could be a major issue here. With depth still not restored from those lost scholarships, Bama could use an open date to heal the bumps and dings. That's exactly what Vols had last week, plus a chance to work on their sluggish offense. (Favorite: Alabama by 3 ½.)

          • LSU 20, Auburn 17: Plainsmen have been lurking in background of the SEC West race but have been beating up on weaklings since losing opener to Georgia Tech. Home team has won past five meetings, and prospects don't get easier with Auburn flying in on morning of game. (Favorite: LSU by 6 ½.)

          • Iowa 27, Michigan 20: Schizophrenic Wolverines have alternated wins and losses all season, and are prime letdown candidates after pulling out last week's miracle over Penn State. Iowa LBs Abdul Hodge and Chad Greenway keep RB Michael Hart in check, and Michigan bogs down. (Favorite: Iowa by 2 ½.)

          • UCLA 33, Oregon St. 26: Do the Bruins have enough left in the tank after three straight fourth-quarter comebacks? Maybe, though it would help if the UCLAns could stop the run. OSU is next-to-last in rushing in Pac-10, but beat Cal with 194 yards from RB Yvenson Bernard. (Favorite: UCLA by 9 ½.)

          • TCU 34, Air Force 24: Strange spread, considering Frogs are best of this year's non-BCS bunch and Flyboys are 3-4. TCU's defense can give up some ugly yardage via the air, but that's not so much a worry against Air Force option. TCU also leads nation in turnover margin. (Favorite: Pick 'em.)

          • Last week: 4-3. Shameless gloating alert -- came within one point of nailing both the LSU-Florida and Texas-Colorado scores. Against spread: 5-2.

          • Season: 26-18 (22-21 vs. spread).

                          Harmon Forecast:

Pittsburgh 21 *Cincinnati 17 -- The Steelers won't have it easy against the improved Bengals, but Ben Roethlisberger's injured knee wasn't as serious as first believed. His health could play a significant role in the game's outcome.

Detroit 24 *Cleveland 21 -- Two teams trying to move on from their recent dismal past. The Lions are trying to contend for the NFC North title, which is up for grabs.

Indianapolis 28 *Houston 14 -- Two teams on the opposite ends of the spectrum. The Colts are strong on both offense and defense. The Texans are struggling severely, particularly on offense.

Kansas City 28 *Miami 17 -- The Chiefs have been unable to find that offensive magic, but that old feeling is slowing returning. K.C. scored 31 points against the powerful Eagles defense in Week 4.

Green Bay 24 *Minnesota 20 -- The Vikings are in disarray, both on and off the field. The Packers, who scored 52 points against the Saints in Week 5, appear to be clicking offensively. Plus, they're well-rested coming off a bye.

San Diego 24 *Philadelphia 20 -- The Chargers have a difficult task, but the Eagles showed vulnerability at Dallas in Week 5. Philly's weaknesses have been exposed and San Diego will look to capitalize.

*St. Louis 21 New Orleans 20 -- The Saints were embarrassed by the Packers in Week 5 and will be chomping on the bit in the next couple of weeks to show that they belong. The Rams continue without head coach Mike Martz, who's on a leave of absence because of an infection affecting his heart.

*Washington 20 San Francisco 14 -- Some NFL watchers insist the Redskins aren't as good as their record. Washington will be out to prove it's floor real against a Niners team coming off a Week 6 bye.

*Seattle 24 Dallas 17 -- Coach Mike Holmgren has the Seahawks flying high offensively thanks to several weapons, including RB Shaun Alexander. The Cowboys hit the road after home games against the Eagles and Giants.

Denver 34 *N.Y Giants 31 -- This should be a fun game to watch, since both teams have moved the ball. Giants QB Eli Manning has developed quickly. The Broncos have been able to control the ball with a consistent running attack.

*Oakland 21 Buffalo 20 -- The Bills still are trying to settle on a quarterback. The Raiders have home-field advantage and Randy Moss, which should be enough to edge Buffalo.

Tennessee 21 *Arizona 17 -- The young Titans are no pushovers, and Steve McNair still can help put up points. The disappointing Cardinals will try to regroup after Week 6 bye.

Baltimore 17 *Chicago 14 -- The Ravens lack the intensity of a few seasons ago; coach Brian Billick has been under fire for not controlling some of his players. The perfect dose for Baltimore could be a trip to Chicago, where the Bears have been struggling to find their way on offense.

                          Week 7 - Monday, Oct. 24, 2005
*Atlanta 20 N.Y Jets 14 -- The Jets' offense remains under the direction of Vinny Testaverde. But the Falcons are playing terrific defense and should be able to subdue New York's attack.
