Beard---soryy to hear about your job---theres ways to get an attorney for free...you being an African?american in this case can help you..go to some equal right org., as welll as the NAACP, and you'd be surprised how fast these companies tuck their tails when that happens....your key here is they were holding your personal belongings...

all you have to say is---they were attempting to stop me from getting em, he pushed me, and out of fear for my personal body, I hit him...you'll have to say/show fear of your own bodily harm...selfdefense....If his brother says otherwise, a good atty can twist that as nepotisms....

Good atty can also show 10 other people leaving---stressful place to work...trust me---get a free lawyer and make the bastages sweat

Blackbeard- Your situation still comes down to your word against his and his nephew. My take is to forget it and move on. The negativity of fighting battles is exhuasting. If you feel that you were wronged, then do as Kapt mentioned. However, you bring attention to the incident that has no real solution by law, and this prevents you from getting on to what you want to do. Not to mention (please excuse the term) blackballed in the community. Another door opens and you just closed one. If the nose is broken, then you may have to defend against medical damages and so on if charges are pressed. Good Luck and thanks for sharing.
