TTT, you are sadly mistaken. History has lots to do with fans. Were you born a Red Sox fan? Of course not. What made you a fan? Probably, your dad. What made you dad a fan? The history of the sport.

What happened in the 20s is extremely important. The game of the 20s has filtered down generation to generation.

frank i am not sadly mistaken.....i liked the sox because my parents are from boston....but my point is that i could give a rats ass about the yanks from the 20s or 30s when arguing about who the better team is.......when the sox won it always becomes, how many pennants do you have? that is my only point...

also the history of the sport did not make me a fan.....i do not think history is pertinent to being a fan...i enjoy history, but it is not a prerequisite....i agree w/ most of your points usually, but think you have swallowed the yankee kool-aid!!!

i do not hate the yanks or the fans......quite the contrary...i respect the hell out of that franchise and even when they were collecting pennants they were a very professional team that went about their business.......in fact the year torre got hired i had a 40 game ticket package to yankee stadium (when they could not fill the seats, remember?)....i lived 50 minutes away and fenway was 3.5 hours at the time.......i just love good baseball........i never liked paul o'neill but for the most part the yanks were 1st class....

now as far as fans...i do not like overzealous fans from either side who are over the top and use the term "we" and "us" and the sox suck or yanks suck.........i just think the yank fans have had it good for a long long time and it is easy to be a fan when you win........but much harder when you taste defeat year after year....

i am a huge NY giants fan and i know how that sucked for years and years until parcells arrived.....

anyways......i do not hate yankee fans per se....
