Of course that will never happen again with pitchers scratched from starting because they have a sniffle or pitching only 6 innings because management wants to "save" their arms for later in the season and/or because the pitcher himself wants to come out of the game in order so to not to endanger his earning power.
Its all about money and specialization now for the most part with the setup men, closers, etc., and I am sure there is no team which puts any priority over four of its pitchers winning 20 games.

I've read every reply here and although i think some will be real tough, alot may never be broken but in a particular crazy year i can see some of them going down like another NFL team going undefeated, or someone like Ichiro breaking the hitting streak by Joe.

The one record i never see being touched is the All Time Wins by a Pitcher.

Cy Young has 511 and that's almost 100 more than 2nd place.

A pitcher today would have to win 20 games a year for 25 years in a row to get 500, than they would need 12 more wins in their 26th year to get the record. Seriously, think about that for a minute. Single season records will always have a chance here and there to get broken but to do the above in a career is IMO impossible!!!

Wayne-what you say is true, but do you think with the way game has changed as alluded to in my previous post, that Cy Young himself could win 511 games today?
I say no, but that certainly doesn't detract from what he did.
Converesly I think it is possible that if some of today's great pitchers were transported back to the time of Cy Young, like Roger Clemens, then perhaps they could come close or match this great record.

savage, no he couldn't but you might be able to say that about alot of real old records. I do believe ANY single season record can/could be broken!

savage, people used to make it their career job. Today with the amount of money nobody needs/wants to play more than 10 years. You have some that do but most want to leave and enjoy their life as a multi millionaire!

Wayne-in actuality you are agreeing with a lot of what I said;way back then pitchers would think nothing of starting almost every other day and pitching into theirt games until their arms hurt, and were paid much less(even comparing the value of the dollar then and now), and thus by economic necessity would pitch for many more years than now if they were able.
