This quote is wrong. The cubs play few night games because when they negotiated with MLB which made them install light towers for night games. They agreed to have fewer than 50% of their home games to be played at night. The team wanted to keep with tradition. Parking and traffic is irrelivant. Where I live in Feura bush there isnt any traffic or parking problems.

I'm on the under based on weather and the pitching matchup....not just the weather alone.

I advise you to stick with Ny news my son .... I know what i am talking about with Wrigleyville ... traffic, parking and the fans coming out of the park at 11PM at night in a residential neighborhood .. They have no parking for that park so you have to park on residential streets .. I will post the next news article when the neighborhood complains about it again ... The team was/has been fighting for more night games every year .... The team definitely wants more night games .. I do agree when they first got lights they did say they wanted the tradition to stay and they would have only 11 night games the first year .... that was just to get the damn lights ...

From Chicago also, and Spark is absolutely right. Traffic, noise, drunks play a huge role in why the city is fighting more night games. They did add some this year, but the Cubs had to "donate" a ton of money to neighborhood projects for that. They also had to give up 2 games and 150K to allow Buffett to play there this summer.

The Cubs would get the long-awaited green light to phase in 12 more night games--for a total of 30 per season--in exchange for spending more money to ease sanitation and parking problems exacerbated by night baseball, under an agreement in the works between the team and local aldermen.

Ald. Tom Tunney (44th), whose ward includes Wrigley, has been presiding over marathon talks aimed at resolving the night game portion of the long-running stadium saga by October.

That would allow the Cubs to notify Major League Baseball in plenty of time for any additional night games to be included in next year's regular-season schedule.

Tunney said the Cubs have agreed to step up to the plate and finance major elements of a so-called neighborhood protection plan demanded by Wrigleyville residents before they will even consider more night games.

The only unresolved issues are the security and traffic plans that fall under the city's purview. If he can get a solid commitment from City Hall, Tunney said he is prepared to go before the so-called blue- ribbon committee comprised of community and business leaders with a proposal to give the Cubs the go-ahead to phase in 12 more night games.

Tunney refused to put a price tag on the team's commitment, nor would he say how quickly the night games would be added. Other sources said the phase-in would be accomplished in three- or four- game increments over the next three or four years.

"The Cubs have agreed to most, if not all, of the neighborhood protection plan. They've pretty much agreed to everything if the community will entertain the notion of additional night games. They need to get something by October to get on the schedule," Tunney said.

"With a big company like that, everybody is going to think it doesn't mean much. But they've made a fairly generous offer. The Cubs are willing to take over permit parking and remote parking that was the city's responsibility. They're willing to pick up additional garbage." This means the Cubs will pay costs for administering permit parking and shuttle bus services to remote lots.

Although an agreement is finally within reach, Tunney cautioned that it could still fall apart. The ball is now in the city's court.

"We need to step up and say, Where is the safety plan to deal with urination and fans spilling out into a neighborhood? We need the police response to [demands for] enhanced bike patrols that make certain police are doing their job in an expanded area," the alderman said.

"We don't have a safety plan nailed down yet. We have enhanced parking and garbage pick-up, but without the safety component, it could all fall apart," he said.

Cubs President Andy MacPhail refused to comment on the negotiations, except to say, "We're still in the process and hope to come to a satisfactory resolution." Until now, the Cubs had offered to contribute $100,000 a year to ease neighborhood problems.

The talks have centered almost exclusively on the night game-for- neighborhood protections trade-off ever since Tunney demanded that a proposed bleacher expansion be shelved for "at least a couple of years" to give the community an opportunity to adjust to additional night games.

If neighborhood protection issues can be "solved, codified and funded," the blue-ribbon committee is likely to go along with more night games, said Jim Ludwig, president of the Lake View Citizens Council.

"The Cubs contend that night game revenue will be very influential in their ability to help solve the neighborhood problems. It makes sense. The more money brought in, the more problems you can solve. Most of it comes down to money," he said.

"The neighborhood doesn't have anything against the Cubs. They just want a high quality of life and commerce unimpeded. They want the Cubs to win the pennant and do well. If we can get some of this solved and move on, it's great. Everybody's been agonizing about this for years. If the inevitability of [more] night games does not impinge on these neighborhood protections, what's the argument against them?"

I just made that up to get you going spark. LOL Though I do remember vividly that the cubs and MLB did agree to keep a majority of the games during the day as to stick with tradition of the cubs 100 +seasons of day baseball, and there was no mention of traffic or neighborhood problems back then. I'm sure it is a big concern now. Fenway is the same way its in a neighborhood as well.
