Look at his numbers compared to Pendleton who won the MVP over Bonds in 1991, they are not close. Winning 2 MVP's does not equal an "above average" player. Winning the MVP in 1990, 92 and 93 is pretty god damn impressive.

If he is not the best player, who is?

Mark McGwire is a fuckin' joke ...As bad as Bonds.
He has a charity for kids...Big Deal! Another asshole
using steroids then bawling like a baby in Washington. What a fraud!. Bonds, McGwire and Sosa ...juice junkies all!!! :angryfire

        1997 159 GAMES 40 HOMERS .585 SLG
        1998 156 GAMES 37 HOMERS .609 SLG
2000 143 GAMES 49 HOMERS .686 SLG (probably the start of steroid use)
2001 153 GAMES 73 HOMERS .863 SLG (an increase of 50+% in homers)

Born 1964. What athlete in any sport had career years at 37 years of age?

Again Bonds had the godgiven ability to be a Hall of Famer and was on track to be one with the Pirates. But now knowing he cheated tarnishes everything! Give me a Kirby Puckett or Tony Gwynn over this fraud anyday.

            Are you kidding me?

            1991
            Pendleton Hits-187 2B-34 3B-8 HR-22 RBI-86 AVG-.319 SLG-.517

            Bonds Hits-149 2B-28 3B-5 HR-25 RBI-116 AVG-.292 SLG-.514

Aside for RBIs Pendleton had better stats. If I remember Pendleton's job wasn't to drive in runs but to get on base.

Let's be fair Bigjohn let's take Tony Gwynn or a Kirby Puckett great hitters from this era and let's imagine them on roids! You could write these guys down for 200+ hits every year now let's imagine these guys roided up like Bonds and a large percentage of there doubles suddenly become homers.

Bonds also had 43 stolen bases that year.

I'm hoping the next time Barry sits in his fancy recliner in his private corner of the clubhouse, that he gets stuck and can't get out by himself and non of his team mates will help him.

On a more serious note, from what I have read in the San Francisco paper, Bobby Bonds was also very hard to get along with. I would be very happy if Barry never plays again and the Babes and Hank Aarons records would continue. Both the Babe and Bonds have large faces, one from hot dogs and one from steriods. We had to wait 10 years to hear the truth from Pete Rose. How long to we have to wait to hear the truth from Bonds.

When he played in Pittsburg he averaged only 24 HR's a year and NEVER HIT MORE than 34 in a season. Playing in San Francisco he NEVER HIT LESS than 33 HR's in a season and averaged 44 HR's a season and mainly at The Stick. His Slugging %, a good measurement of strength was OVER 600 only once with Pittsburg, but with the Giants it was UNDER 600 only once.

It's very hard to imagine steriods had nothing to do with these discrepancies. I wonder what his HR's totals as a Giant would have been without steriods. Barry Bonds is a jerk who lies and cheats. If Bonds is elected to the Hall of Fame and Pete Rose isn't, something is very very wrong.

Also, Pendleton led the league in BA, hits and total bases. He was 3rd in slugging %.

To say he didn't deserve MVP sounds biased

I'm not defending these guys for taking steroids, but please, let's not get all high and mighty. People do what they think they can get away with to give themselves the greatest advantage in their particular career.

To play Devil's advocate......say a friend of yours who worked for a Investment Bank told you that in 6 weeks, Microsoft was going to purchase Hewlett Packard at a price that is $10 more than what the stock is at right now.

If you thought that there was almost zero chance of getting caught, how many of you would buy as many Hewlett Packard call options as you could afford? I would guess that if you had the means to do it, most of you would, as long as you had a level of certainty that you would not get caught.

That would be cheating and would be no different than anything that Bonds or any of the other juiceheads have done.

You may be correct Rhino, however, you could also make the argument that these players would not be able to keep up year after year putting these numbers up. Why does everyone rip on Bonds however players like Brady Anderson never get mentioned. I saw a stat last year that Bonds swung and missed 53 times approx way thru the year which is amazing

A ridiculous hypocrisy. Gamble on baseball you get suspended for life. Take an illegal substance that enhances performance and you receive accolades.

I hope Bonds NEVER is elected to the Hall.

To me their is a HUGE difference with your analogy. Getting a stock tip doesn't taint a 100 years of historical records. Their lots of history. Records that are now tainted because of cheating. Baseball unlike other sports cherish their records.

In my mind Maris holds the single year home run record with Ruth second. Regardless what Bonds does the next year or two. Hank Aaron has the career home run record with Ruth second.

Strip Bonds and Mcgwire off all their records.

I think Mcgwire and Bonds will get in as much as I'd hate to see it. Can you imagine the HOF Ceremony?? I think I would get sick having these players tell there life story and how tough it was and then knowing there plaques will go up in the same room as Bob Feller, Ted Williams etc.

I have a great appreciation of the history of the game of baseball and just laugh when big leaguers say how hard the schedule is and all the demands when player before them traveled by train and played double headers and oh yeah missed years of there career due to World Wars!

But oh yeah we should feel sorry for Barry Bonds.

By the way meeting Bob Feller and having the oppurtunity to listen to 20 minutes of his stories is one of the most memorable moments of my life...
