2 Star Selection
05:45 PM Pacific Time **SAINT JOHN'S (+13 points or more) 66 NC State 72
St John's is a much improved team in the first season under new coach
Norm Roberts and the Red Storm have covered the spread 5 consecutive
times and remain underrated. My ratings favor the Wolfpack by just 12
points in this game if you take off 1 1/2 points for the loss of
forward Rodney Epperson (14.1 ppg, 4.6 rpg) - even though the
Johnnies have actually played better in 2 games he's missed. NC State
has been slumping lately and the Wolfpack have not been as good in
regular season games afer a win under coach Sendek (41-62-4 ATS) as
they have in games following a loss (46-29-2 ATS). In road or neutral
regular season games following a victory the Wolfpack are only 17-34-
2 ATS under Sendek, inlucing 4-11 ATS as a favorite and 6-15 ATS
against non-conference opponents (1-8 ATS as a favorite). While the
team trends (St. John's is also 16-2-1 ATS recently in games after a
home win) are nice, the reason for the play is a 101-59-1 ATS home
underdog momentum situation that favors St. John's.
Possible Best Bet
04:45 PM Pacific Time
COL. OF CHARLESTON 78 St. Peters 64
Charleston qualifies in a very strong 66-19-4 ATS home momentum
situation while the Peacocks apply to a negative 25-66-7 ATS unrested
road team angle. The record is a perfect 10-0-2 ATS when both angles
apply to the same game (including UTEP earlier this week). However,
St. Peters is a decent team that got better since Ron Yates made his
season debut on December 11th. My ratings favor Charleston by only 4
1/2 points, but the situation is so strong that giving up line value
would still result in a profitable investment. Charleston has a 57%
chance of covering at the current line of -8 points, but I'll only
take Charleston in a 2-Star Best Bet at -7 points or less.
4 Star Selection
05:15 PM Pacific Time ****TENN-CHATTANOOGA 74 Birmingham Southern 54
Birmingham Southern is in a tough spot, as road teams tend to fall
flat in the second game of back-to-back nights in the final game of
their opponent's home tournament. Birmingham applies to a negative
31-73-3 ATS situation that is based on that premise and my ratings
favor Chattanooga by 12 points in this game, as they appear to be
very underrated. The situation and the line value combine to make the
Mocs a very high percentage play at the current line of -8 points.
Downgrade Chattanooga to a 3-Star Best Bet if they become a
favorite of more than 8 points.
2 Star Selection
04:00 PM Pacific Time **Samford (+17 points or more) 58 NOTRE DAME 68
Notre Dame is a vastly overrated team with one good player,
pointguard Chris Thomas, who is a great passer but also shoots just
39% from the field - which is not what you want from your leading
scorer. The Irish are 0-3 ATS laying double-digits this season and
they're only 5-10-1 ATS when favored by 14 points in 5 seasons under
coach Mike Brey (0-4-1 ATS the last 2 years) and 19-30-1 ATS in all
home games in his tenure. Samford, meanwhile, is 7-2 ATS as a dog of
7 points or more and my ratings favor the Irish by just 12 points in
this contest. I'll take advantage of the line value and take Samford
at +17 points or more in a 2-Star Best Bet.
I really only play their NBA and NFL picks because I personally think they are just so-so in college sports across the board. They went 0-2 yesterday and are 1-1 so far today (Won BC, Lost NM under) so bet wisely!
SP: If I come across the college hoops GOW, I will post it.
