Originally posted by phillybol04 I was reading what everyone wrote earlier about PPP and how they post so many picks and if you keep taking them your going to lose. The reason I came to this forum is to win, capping on my own has brought me nothing but debt. So i am going to ask all of the people who are regulars to this site. If I wanted to follow just one service all year for each sport or sports combined who would everyone suggest if they had to trust their bankroll on the decision????
do you purchase gamblersdata.com picks. I was just looking at their data and its pretty impressive. Let me no if you know anyone who gets their picks. thanks buddy
Does anyone have Northcoast's Bowl Newsletter play (with his predicted score) on the New Orleans Bowl tonight? Can you post all the games from that Newsletter? Thanks.
This will be the 7th all-time meeting with each team winning three of the previous six meetings (last met in 1981). North Texas and Coach Dickey are veterans when it comes to playing in the New Orleans Bowl. This will be their fourth consecutive trip while sporting the nation's 2nd longest conference winning streak at 25 games. In 2001, the first year of the Sun Belt, the Eagles lost their opener to ULM 19-17 but then proceeded to run the table in conference play and garner their first New Orleans Bowl bid despite being only the third team in NCAA history to get a post season nod with a losing record (5-6). They were beaten soundly by Colo St 45-20 (+11). In ‘02, North Texas survived a non-conf slate of Texas, Alabama, TCU, and S Fla going 6-0 in SBC action and then upset Cincinnati 24-19 (+7') in The Big Easy. In ‘03, the Greenies closed the show with 8 straight wins after dropping non-conf road tilts at Oklahoma, Air Force and Arkansas but lost here 27-17 to Memphis. TY they started out 0-4 SU & ATS with two of those losses to bowl teams (Texas 65-0 and Colorado 52-21 and were outgained by an avg of 630-319 in those 2 gms) and were losing 14-0 in the 1Q to MTSU before rallying for the win. NT then went 7-0 SU & ATS vs the SBC. They were outFD’d in 5 of their 7 SBC games. NT starts 12 Sr's (5 on off, 7 on D). This will be a disappointing bowl game for SMiss as last year they were in the Liberty Bowl as CUSA Champ. The Golden Eagles are playing in their 7th bowl in 8 years and 15th in the school’s 88 year history. This is Jeff Bower’s 14th season and he is the winningest coach in SMiss history at 95-66-1. SMiss is 5-9 SU in bowl games but in their last 6 are 3-3 SU and 3-2-1 ATS. Last Year in the Liberty Bowl they came in riding a 6 game winning streak and facing a 9-2 Utah team, it was all D as both teams combined for 441 ttl yds as Utah (-2) shut out SMiss 17-0. That game marked the first time since ‘95 that SMiss was blanked and we won with a 3’* LPS on Utah. SMiss had their 13 game CUSA streak (11-2 ATS) snapped this year with a loss to Cincy and then recorded their first ever 3 game CUSA losing streak. The New Orleans Bowl is just 94 miles down Rt 59 and Golden Eagle fans traditionally travel well. There are no common opponents and both teams normally play on art turf.
Before the season even started, NT had lost their backup QB, 2 RB’s, 2 WR’s and LT with three of the players being projected starters. The Mean Green bounced back and gathered the most post season SBC honors with the repeat selection of the SBC Player of the Year, Offensive POY RB Jamario Thomas (led nation in rushing, 190 ypg, 6.9 ypc, 17 TD’s). Darrell Dickey received his 4th Coach of the Year Award. Of the 14 players selected, 7 of them are 1st Tm SBC. LY’s Offensive POY RB Patrick Cobbs went out in game 3 with a knee injury and took a RS. Thomas also ranks 4th nationally in scoring with 11.3 ppg. He did miss the last game due to a hamstring injury. 2nd Tm SBC QB Scott Hall is avg 152 ypg (57.5%) with a 13-2 ratio. Hall remained the starter TY when Andrew Smith tragically died in a car accident on Aug 7th. WR ****** Quinn led the team with an avg of 16.6 ypc placing him 1st Tm SBC as an all-purpose player. Leading all TE’s in the SBC is Andy Blount (1st Tm SBC) avg 15.3 ypc. Averaging 6-3 288 lbs, the OL is led by 1st Tm SBC C Andy Brewster who has started every game since his freshman year (49). Both LG Lonnie Chambers and RG Dylan Lineberry garnered 2nd Tm SBC honors. The DL are all seniors and led by 1st Tm SBC Adrian Awasom. Awasom led the league in both sacks and TFL. Michael Pruitt (5 sks), Evan Cardwell (5 sks) and Tommy Harrison round out the DL with Pruitt and Cardwell getting 2nd Tm SBC honors. Six of the defensive starters were not regular starters at the end of 2003. Their 3 starting LB’s had never started a single game before this year but grew as the season went on and were 3 of the top 5 tacklers with frosh Monroe (62) and Mendoza (50). They have a veteran secondary with seniors CB Walter Priestley, S Markeith Knowlton (80 tkls) and S Jonas Buckles (55 tkls, 6 sks) who made 1st Tm SBC. NT avg 196 ypg rushing (4.8) and have allowed 174 ypg rushing (4.4) but allowed opp QB to avg 241 ypg (63%) with a 14-13 ratio to finish #87 in our pass efficiency rankings. They sacked opposing QB’s 23 times while only giving up 10. NT has the #90 rated offense and #96 rated D.
SMiss is coming off a 2003 campaign where they won the CUSA Title sweeping the board going 8-0 and upset Nebraska on the road to start the 2004 campaign. They got out to a 5-1 start with their only loss vs Alabama 27-3 (w/o QB Almond hamstring). In that game they were mauled on the ground with Bama gaining 262 yards( 5.1), one of 5 opponents to have over 230 yards rushing in a game. SMiss is led by Jr QB Dustin Almond who avg 178 ypg (51%) with an 11-5 ratio. He pulled a hamstring in the win vs Houston and the offense struggled as he missed 2.5 games due to injuries. In the UAB game he came in off the bench in the 2H with a bad back and led them to 23 2H points and a 26-21 win, their 6th, to become bowl eligible. The running game has been slowed this year due to injuries to both RB Anthony Harris (610 yds, 3.8) and Sherron Moore (388, 4.2). RFr Larry Thomas has been the most explosive avg 7.0 ypc on 45 carries. Almond's favorite targets are WR's Antwon Courington with 42 rec (14.3) with 5 TD's and Marvin Young (21 rec, 13.2, 3 TD's). Young was expected to be the big play man but played the season at 70% health and will not be 100% until after post season surgery. SMiss O-line avg's 6-3 290 with 2 Sr starters led by Preseason All-CUSA RT Jeremy Parquet (career 38 starts, 1st Tm All CUSA last year) but they paved the way for just 3.6 ypc rush while allowing 18 sacks. The D-line avg 6-1 276 with 2 Sr starters led by DT Eric Scott (317 lbs). When you talk SMiss football you have to talk defense and since 1999 they have allowed the fewest TD's (114) than any other IA school. They are led by two great LB's: All American Michael Boley has 117 tackles, 7 sks & 9 tfl and is 2nd in the NCAA in forced fumbles. He has over 400 tackles, 25 sacks and 54 TFL in his career. We’ll be watching him play next year on Sunday. LB Antoine Cash has 88 tackles despite not being 100% healthy mid year. DB Trevis Coley has 97 tackles and 3 int’s. He leads the #36 pass efficiency D in the country.
SMiss has the spec tms edge (#15-76). SMiss is led by Preseason All-Conference KR John Eubanks who is avg 29.4 ypr. Eubanks avg 8.3 yards per PR. Darren McCaleb, a Lou Groza finalist, is their kicker and is perfect on the year in FG's 15-15 with 3 beyond the 40 and a long of 45 yds. Punter Luke Johnson avg’d 41.5 with a net of 37.0 yds and has 16 punts inside the 20 yard line. SMiss is allowing 22.2 ypr on kickoffs and 7.5 on punt returns. They do have 1 blocked punt to their credit. NT K Nick Bazaldua (1st Tm SBC) is solid hitting 13-16 going 8 for 8 inside the 40 and 5 for 8 from 40+. P Brad Kadlubar is avg 39.6 ypp with a net of 34.3. KR coverage holds opponents 18.9 ypr which is #32 in the NCAA. The Mean Green KR specialists avg just 18.6 ypr.
Only twice in the last 6 years has a team had less than 2 weeks from its last regular season game to the bowl and those teams are 2-1 ATS but the one loss was Cincy vs N Texas in this bowl. While NT is 7-4 SU & ATS this year, they have faced a weak schedule (#114) and are being outgained by 60 ypg! SMiss is just 6-5 and have faced the #61 schedule and are being outgained by 71 ypg. SMiss is allowing 4.6 ypc rush while only avg 3.6 ypc while NT’s numbers are stronger allowing 4.4 ypc and rushing for 5.2. Texas, Colorado and Fla Atlantic are the only teams NT played that finished with winning records (0-3 ATS). SMiss took on 5 bowl teams and were 3-2 ATS. NT definitely has the preparation edge as they knew they were playing SMiss two weeks ago and are well rested. SMiss just played a big National TV game vs Cal. SMiss did already play at this venue when they whipped Tulane 32-14. NT RB Thomas is the best offensive weapon but SMiss has played solidly under Almond, like when he came off the bench in the 2H to guide them to the win over UAB to become bowl eligible. NT figures to be more excited and focused but SMiss is the stronger team and more battle tested. There is no number at the time of this writing but as long as SMiss is laying less than 6’ we like them as a 1*.
