BOISE STATE at BYU
Boise State heads to Provo, Utah for a non-conference tilt with BYU. Boise State is off a 70-67 win at Idaho last Saturday as +1½ point road dogs. Jason Ellis scored a game-high 23 points and had seven boards to lead the Broncos. He made 10-of-12 shots (83.3 percent) and all three of his free throw attempts. He also added two blocks and a steal, as Boise State (4-2 SU/2-1 ATS) won for the second time in its last three games. Karl Coby turned in 16 points and six boards, while Franco Harris added 13 points in the winning cause. Jermaine Blackburn also chipped in with 12 points and nine rebounds. Boise State was coming off a disappointing 74-55 loss at Utah Valley State (who?) the previous game and this will be their third straight road game. The Cougars are coming off an 87-82 loss at USC on Saturday as +8 point dogs. Jimmy Balderson led the Cougars (1-5 SU/2-4 ATS) with 22 points and four assists off the bench. Mike Hall and Mike Rose each tallied 13 points, while Garner Meads and Derek Dawes contributed 10 points apiece in the losing cause. The Cougars out-boarded the Trojans 40-30 but they committed 21 turnovers and shot just 65 percent from the line. This will be just the second home game of the season for BYU. In their first and only home affair, the Cougars dropped a tough 67-64 decision to California as -4 point chalks on November 27th. Boise State is 21-6 ATS as a traveler, but will be facing their most formidable foe of the young season when they take on the Cougars. BYU is 55-29 ATS as a host and 66-38 ATS as a chalk and should prevail in this situation.
SELECTION: BYU
2* NEW ORLEANS over New York
New York comes into this game off 3 consecutive SU/ATS losses with two of those losses coming with them as favorites. We realize that New Orleans is just 1-15 SU this season, but the lines are starting to catch up as they are now 6-3 ATS last 9 games, and their play is actually improving especially on the defensive end where they are allowing just 88 pts per game and 45.6% shooting over their last 5 games, and that includes games against Detroit, Sacramento, Houston, Denver, and the Lakers. Technically, the Knicks are just 2-8 ATS recently on the road after 3 or more consecutive games where they have out-rebounded their opponents by 5 or more boards, so we’ll look for New Orleans to continue to improve by keeping this one close.
2* ORLANDO over Utah
Believe it or not, Orlando has a better road record then Utah’s home record, and Orlando’s offense should be a bit too much for Utah in this one. Orlando is averaging 106.4 pts per game over their last 5 games, and they are shooting a very nice 46.7% from the floor. What’s more, they are rebounding well (as they have all season) with 53.8 boards per game during that 5-game span. Utah is allowing a whopping 112.4 pts per game over their last 5 games with opponents shooting better than 50%. Don’t expect that to change tonight. Orlando whooped Utah by 15 pts earlier this season, and Utah is just 2-8 ATS revenging a loss this season. Orlando gets the nod!
2* UNDER Seattle at San Antonio
Seattle is back on the road off a 2-game homestand, and have now played on the road in 8 of their last 12 games. They average significantly less on the road at 94 pts per game, but their defense is consistent as they are still allowing just 93 pts per game on the road. San Antonio has not averaged any more at home then on the road (96 pts), but their defense is significantly better at home allowing just 78.2 pts per game. Seattle is 10-25 to the UNDER when playing just their second game in a 7-day span, while the Spurs are 2-9 UNDER off consecutive blowout wins by 15 or more pts, 3-13 UNDER at home off 6 or more consecutive SU wins, and 4-15 UNDER at home after a game where they allowed 75 or less. This one stays low!
Still looking for ATS hoops and would also like to see if anyone has the Tally NBA game of the WEEK (not month/edited) for tonight (8-1 this year right?). Mucho services coming as soon as the consensus site begins posting at 6 et.
