Hunglikeabear-If you were Theo Epstein, would you trade Ortiz for A-Rod straight up based on what has transpired this season?

Very interesting how the failure of the Yankees falls on A Rod's shoulders. Has anybody ever, single handedly won a World Series by himself? You still need nine men in the field, backups on the bench and an entire pitching staff to win a hundred games, let alone a World Championship ring. Look at all the greats that have never won a ring. This parallels the end of last football season where the entire blame fell on Donavan McNabb's shoulders because the Eagles lost in the NFC Chamionship game. At that time, McNabb was deemed as "not that good", "Rush was right", "over rated", etc. Well, he now has Owens, a big receiver that can actually get open and catch the ball to make some plays. Westbrook is heathy again. It's still a team game, guys. I suspect that once baseball starts up next year, A Rod will be doing his thing putting up HOF like numbers. The Yanks will be steam rolling everybody and everything will be good again. Remember, Bonds was never considered as one of the all time favorite players or given his "just due" until it was late in his career and he broke the Babe's record. He was never a post season producer until just two years ago.

BTW, NOBODY IN SPORTS IS WORTH WHAT THEY'RE PAID! GET SERIOUS.

I still think all things considered A-Rod is overrated if his salary is the determining factor.
Compare Ortiz's salary with that of ARod-hmmm.
Both make plenty, but ARod is not worth a penny more.

          David Ortiz Career Numbers:

          .278 Avg 388 Runs 697 Hits 130 HR 478 RBI's

          He's played 4.52 seasons

          His Average Per year:

          86 Runs 154 Hits 29 HR's 106 RBI's

Based on that if he played another 10 years his career numbers would be:

          1248 Runs 2237 Hits 420 HR's 1538 RBI's

David Ortiz is 28 right now so he would have to keep from getting injured as well. So if you compare the numbers theres a huge difference. One thing to note is that Ortiz didn't start putting up big numbers until he came to the short right fenced Fenway.

Are you talking this past ALCS or for a career?

If you go by Salary there's tons of players overrated in all sports. Wrong Arod is worth more than Ortiz as I did the numbers. Ortiz wouldn't be putting up the numbers he has if he wasn't in Fenway.

I am saying based on what Ortiz has done for the Red sox as opposed to what A-Rod has done for the Yankees and other teams he has played for,,and taking into account all the intangibles each adds or in case of ARod doesn't add to his team, I would not trade Ortiz for ARod straight up.
Baseball is more than stats and to me ARod is not a winner-not yet anyways.

BC-I can't argue with you because we have different criterions for evaluating players;you go by stats;I use stats and other intangibles and results on the field.

Can anybody tell me how many World Series rings does Ortiz have? I do believe that the sox would trade Ortiz for A Rod straight up. If you're Epstein, you make that trade.

BC-You refer to short fence at Fenway. The Green Monster is close but straight away in right it is around 380-not "exactly a Chinese homer."

Don't misquote me as I said right field fence is short and he's a lefty. Look at his numbers in Minnesota.

It takes a team to win games and not 1 player. And I guarantee that Boston would trade Ortiz for Arod even up.

I don't think Theo would do it;you don't argue with success as evidenced by this series and season especially.

BC-go to the Red Sox forum at. www.redsox.com and ask how many of the fans there would make the trade.
If Nomar were healthy, I wouldn't trade him for ARod either;I am glad that trade fell through; based on present and Nomar's injuries though, I would trade him for Arod.
You said it takes a team to win, and you are correct;I consider Ortiz a better team player than ARod.
What he did in game 6 was shocking and stupid.

My overall point is that Ortiz added more to Sox this year than ARod did to Yankees sll things considered especially when differentials of salary are considered.
