Game 1 here in sunny New York represents an opportunity for me … one I can not pass up . I feel I have the right team at the right price with a more than right pitching matchup.
Curt Schilling is a proven winner – fiery and burning to succeed. He’s also very intelligent. His mound opponent does not have any of these assets. This is a pitching mismatch of enormous proportions.
My best friend, our linesmaker , seems to have the Yankees number when playing at home. They simply do not do well when installed as home underdogs.
My largest baseball wagers have always been ON Curt Schilling and he has never let me down. Two years ago I made a similar move on him at Fenway at +120 vs. Pedro in an inter league contest. Arizona won …. albeit in extra innings.
I've also made some decent sized wagers going AGAINST Mussina in the past and he too has never disappointed me.
I believe Boston will be primed to take game 1 whereas the Yankees will not feel as “urgent”. New York will save that urgency for the latter games of the series.
Schilling vs. Mussina in Game 4 at Fenway would be much less attractive. Mussina will get his lunch handed to him but N.Y. may very well win. The Sox will be –200 and by then the Yankees will have figured out yet another way to scam Boston. They always do. THIS is the game where I must take a stand and move on it …. Right here and right now.
Both the NY Daily News and The Post have pull out sections on the game tonight. I choose to ignore their content. I don’t want anyone to distract me from what I NEED to do . No Mike and The Mad Dog … No ESPN TV or Radio … No opinions from friends ( which I normally value )
This game is all on me and, right or wrong, win or lose, I can live with the result. Either way , I’ll just sit back after tonight’s game and enjoy how the rest of this soap opera plays out.
Last night I stepped up to the window with briefcase in hand and bought The Redsox at –130 … making darn sure to specify the pitchers.
Enjoy the game and the series,
