Officially we'll pass on the race this week--tough to handicap with no qualifying or practices to look at. Another unknown as this is the first race of the final ten which will comprise the "race for the Nextel cup". Better off just watching this week--if I had to play anyone I'd use some combination of Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and/or Ryan Newman.

Hilton contest:

I've had a few questions about the Hilton plays so I wanted to clarify a few things about the contest, the plays and what you should do with them.

As many of you are no doubt aware, I'm entered in the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook football contest this year. The format of the contest requires that I pick 5 NFL sides against the spread each week. I get the contest lines early in the week and have to have the plays in by Friday (unless there's a Thursday NFL game). Players get 1 point for a win, a half point for a push and no points for a loss. The contestant with the most points at the end of the season wins the top prize.

Should you play these games and/or will they end up as official plays on Sunday? The answer in both cases is "maybe". Typically I'd expect some of the plays to end up in the final Prophet releases for Sunday. Obviously lines may change between early in the week and game day, circumstances may change (due to injury, etc), and my opinion may change due to additional research and analysis. Most importantly, I've always done a lot with NFL totals and with the contest being "sides only" that means that some of the strongest NFL positions for the week (the totals I like) won't be reflected there.

On the other hand in most weeks you can consider the contest plays my 5 strongest NFL sides of the week, at least based on the information I have as of Friday morning. I decided to release them to all clients not only so you can follow my progress but since at some point the Hilton contest makes them public information anyway and its not a huge secret that they're mine since I'm entered in the contest as "Net Prophet Sports".

As I mentioned before, I'm entered as "Net Prophet Sports" and am contestant # 383. You'll find me midway through the pack of contestants with 4 points, based on a 4-1 mark opening week.
