Season record:Ê223-224Ê-17.64 UNITSÊÊÊ
Ê
LA (ALVAREZ) -129 over NYM (Glavine) - 1 UNIT - 4:10pm Pacific
Alvarez had a terrible time in his last outing, but I'll chalk that up as just a bad start, with nothing to worry about in his future performances.Ê The Mets don't hit lefties well, and Glavine is still feeling the effects of his automobile crash.Ê He had control problems that were probably attributable to his injuries, and he's probably not 100% yet.Ê The Dodgers also hit lefties well.
Ê
OVER 9 ARI (WEBB)/CIN (CLAUSSEN) -109 - 1 UNIT - 4:10pm Pacific
Both pitchers faced their respective opponents in their last starts.Ê Although Webb gave up only one run in 7 IP, he was constantly in trouble because of his lack of command, which has been plaugueing him all season.Ê A second look by the Reds lineup in such a short period of time should help the hitters here.Ê Likewise, the Arizona lineup should benefit from seeing Claussen again.Ê
Ê
OVER 10.5 DET (MAROTH)/BOS (LOWE) -110Ê- 1 UNIT - 4:05pm Pacific
Maroth's road numbers are pretty bad, and he's on the road here against the Boston lineup, so there's a good possibility that he'll get lit up.Ê He was starting to get exposed anyway, as he was pitching way over his head.Ê The Detroit offense hits well on the road, and Lowe should not present a problem to their lineup.
Ê
UNDER 8.5 KC (GREINKE)/SEA (MECHE) +108 - 1 UNIT - 7:05pm Pacific
Greinke has back-to-back impressive starts, and I like his chances against a weak Seattle lineup.Ê Meche has been very impressive, and should have only been charged with 1 ER in his last start.Ê The KC lineup is very weak now, and with two good pitchers on the mound, runs should be hard to come by.Ê
Ê
MIN (RADKE) +120 over Ana (Sele) - 1 UNIT - 7:05pm Pacific
Radke has put together quality starts in six of his last seven outings.Ê Sele is definitely not as good as his record indicates, and has had problems with the Twins lineup.Ê Radke as a dog is a solid play here.Ê The Angel bats have been hot, but Radke is much better than any of the lousy pitching that they saw against KC.

IndianapolisÊ-4 (-110) over Buffalo
Indianapolis can't be happy with their offensive performance last week as they got trounced at home by the Jets 31-7. Home favorites off a home loss in which they scored 10 or less points bounce back very nicely against the spread in the preseason. It's the preseason but that doesn't mean the offense didn't work extra hard this week and has something to prove. In addition, home favorites who lost big last week also perform well against the spread the following week. One unit on Indy.
NY Giants +3 (-110)ÊoverÊNY Jets
NY Giants straight-up (+135) overÊNY Jets
I know, I know - the Jets always win this preseason matchup. The theory goes that the Jets, historically the bottom-dwellers take this game more seriously and beat the Giants when they can because they certainly couldn't beat them in the regular season. Well, times have changed. The Giants won 4 games last year. One could argue the Jets are the better team. Also, the head coach has changed. Tom Coughlin is a tough as nails coach who demands the best from his players n! o matter when they are playing. After their 31-7 trashing of the Colts, the Jets will be taking it easier this game. In week three of the preseason, dogs facing opponents off back-to-back wins with the last being a blowout win cover nearly nine out of ten times. One unit on NY at +3 and one unit on NY to win outright.
Tennessee +3.5 (-110)ÊoverÊDallas
Tennessee straight-up (+160)ÊoverÊDallas
Two coaches that like to win in the preseason matchup on Monday Night Football. In weeks 3 and 4 of the preseason, teams off two straight wins when getting points cover the spread nearly three quarters of the time. Anything can happen in the preseason so I like getting points (over a field goal) here with the better, deeper team.
St. Louis -3 (-110) over Washington
Anyone who sat last Monday night's game had to feel embarrased for the Rams. They were awful and the frustration was all over their faces. That sort of game gets players chomping at the bit for next week's game so they can prove to everyone (including themselves) that they aren't that bad. Combine this with the fact that St. Louis is winless in the preseason and has yet to score more than 10 points and we have a situation where the Rams should be trying a lit! tle bit harder than their competition. Home teams off two straight losses tend to beat the spread in their next game. One unit on the Rams.
Miami/Tampa BayÊOver 33
Thirty three? Come on. That's way too low. The public is overreacting to the fact that Tampa Bay scored 6 points and Miami got shut out last week. These are good reasons to bet the over. Just as Dallas put forth an extra offensive effort last week following their week 1 shutout, these teams will as well. They've been focusing alot on offense this week to figure out how to improve from last week's horrible performances. Games in the last couple of we! eks of the preseason inÊwhich the O/U is under 35 and involve a road team off a loss have gone OVER 19 out of 22 times over the past five seasons. Expect this one to as well. One unit on the over.

Washington (+3) over ST. LOUIS by 3, 8 pm EST, Fox TV
Though Gibbs has spent more than a decade away from the NFL
sidelines, he possesses more than enough mental acquity over Martz
to easily offset whatever homefield advantage St. Louis may have in
this. Technicians may point to game 3 winless home teams being 38-
32 ATS, including 14-6 if -3+ / 10+ loss. But fundamentals far outweigh
this. RB Faulk figures to see limited action and starting QB Bulger has
a bruised knee which may limit his time and mobility. In any event, Martz
figures his starters to play no more than one half. With 4 injured OL little
continuity can be expected. Gibbs figures to hold nothing back with a
QB rotation of Ramsey and Brunell. Gibbs said he plans to use much
of the first team in both remaining preseason games; "we're going to go
hard the next two weeks." With the Rams playing on a four day week off
a Monday night road game in KC, the Skins figure to have a dominant
rest edge as well. Wrong team favored, Skins a live dog.

USC (-17-, -18) over Virginia Tech by ONLY 13 at Landover, MD
This is a much bigger game for Virginia Tech. Following a 6-0 SU, 4-1 ATS start, Beamer's proud Hokie program disintegrated down the stretch. They finished 2-5 SU, 1-6 ATS, allowing 121 points in their last 3 games. That final loss, by the way, was to California in the Insight Bowl, 52-49. Those would be the same Bears who were the only team to defeat USC last year. USC, conversely, comes off a highly satisfying Championship season culminating in a 28-14 victory over Michigan in the Rose Bowl. Their two year ascent to the top of the College Football ranks has resulted in an 18-2 ATS streak. Fine recent recruiting seasons by Carroll implies the athletic base will not diminish despite returning just 12 starters. Yet, Beamer's program is even more entrenched with the capability of replacing 12 lost starters. A key note among replacements is that USC must break in 4 new offensive linemen. A late August game implies that more intricate pass blocking may not be refined. Each team's defensive strength is their front 7. Knowing the above, expect Beamer to go to a controlled passing game with QB Randall and attempt to control matters with his own defense. In short, expect him to "shorten" the game by controlling the clock. Beamer's fast starts are evidenced by his 10-1 ATS record in the first 4 games of L3Y. Take the generous points in what will most likely be a defensive oriented game.
