    WinOnBaseball.com - Sunday - 8/22/04

Welcome to our first annual service free trial!

-- WinOnBaseball handicaps Major League Baseball exclusively.

-- All plays with analysis, along with current and past season records, will be updated weekly on the "Records" page of our website.

-- All records will be documented at National Sports Monitor (*********.com)

-- NEXT UPDATE will be sent before 6:00am Pacific on Monday, August 23nd.

    Season record: 218-220 -18.33 UNITS

    HOU (OSWALT) -119 over CHC (Wood) - 1 UNIT - 11:05am Pacific
Oswalt has been pitching as well as anyone as of late. His K/9 and K/BB rates are as good as his sparkling debut season. No reason to think that the Cubs will break up his hot streak, as he has done very well against them in the past. Wood's been amazing at home, but more human on the road. Should be a nice pitcher's duel, but I think Oswalt can shut down the Cubs here.

    FLA (PAVANO) -124 over SD (Hitchcock) - 1 UNIT - 1:05pm Pacific
Pavano just continues to be a horse, and it should continue in pitcher friendly Petco. Hitchcock has been unimpressive since coming off the DL, giving up 4 HRs with a lackluster BB/K rate. He was actually hit a lot harder in his last start than what the box score would indicate. Pavano won't need a lot of run support to get the W, and the Marlins should be able to give him enough against Hitchcock.

    OVER 9.5 CIN (CLAUSSEN)/ARI (RANDOLPH) -115 1 UNIT - 1:35pm Pacific
Both starters have control problems, and Claussen actually has more walks than strikeouts. They will both put runners on, and although neither team has been great against lefties, neither starter is dominant enough to afford to let runners on base. Some early scoring should occur while these two are on the mound.

    LA (ALVAREZ) -117 over Atl (Wright) - 1 UNIT - 1:10pm Pacific

    OVER 9.5 ANA (ESCOBAR)/NYY (BROWN) -105 - 1 UNIT - 10:05am Pacific
Escobar is currently battling a blister on his middle finger of his throwing hand. He may not even make this start. I anticipate him being ineffective if he does make this start, as it's pretty obvious that he won't be at 100%. Brown has been hit very hard by the Angel hitters.

    SEA (MECHE) +131 over Det (Maroth) - 1 UNIT - 10:05am Pacific
Meche seems to be back on his game. Since returning to the rotation on July 30, he has 23 Ks against only 3 BBs. He has changed his approach of attacking hitters and altered his grip slightly, which has evidently helped him immensely. Seattle fares much better against lefties. Maroth has a bipolar skill set when you look at his home/road splits, with his home numbers being very good. Nonetheless, I like Meche to shut down the Tiger lineup.

    OAK (REDMAN) -121 over TB (Brazelton) - 1 UNIT - 10:15am Pacific
Redman has been very good on the road, with a 3.05 ERA in 13 starts. Throw out a couple of consecutive difficult outings against Boston and San Francisco on the road, and he has a 1.91 ERA. He has also thrown quality games in five of his last six starts. On the surface, Brazelton's numbers are pretty nice, but his K/BB ratio is not good, and he has a favorable strand rate, which will eventually normalize.

    UNDER 9.5 OAK (REDMAN)/TB (BRAZELTON) -122 - 1 UNIT - 10:15am Pacific

Atlanta Braves at Los Angeles Dodgers
          Sunday, August 22, 2004 4:10 P.M. EDT EST

Braves had little chance yesterday afternoon after starter Mike Hampton put them in a deep 1st inning hole. Look for Jaret Wright to have a better outing than that and the Braves to bounce back and earn a split of this four-game set.

            --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

            MINNESOTA TWINS
We are going with the Twins today as a 4 Unit selection. Listed pitchers are CC Sabathia for the Indians and Brad Radke for the Twins. The Indians are just 5-6 when Sabathia starts for them on the road. Brad Radke has faced the Indians twice this year and has beaten them both times. He won at home against the Tribe 7-4 and beat them on the road 3-0. In 14 innings pitched this year against the Indians Radke has only given up 2 runs. We love the Twins in this spot and are playing this one with confidence for 4 Units.

            LA DODGERS
We are going with the Dodgers tonight for 2 Units. Listed pitchers are Jaret Wright for the Braves and Wilson Alvarez for the Dodgers. When Jaret starts for the Braves on the road he owns a 7-5 record. He faced them earlier this season and lost 7-4. When Alvarez starts for the Dodgers at home they are 5-1. and he owns a ERA of 1.51. The loss on the road to the Braves is fresh on his mind and Alvarez is looking forward to redeeming himself at home sweet home, California. It's payback time today

              BIG GREEN MACHINE

              For Your Sunday Comp Play:

It's put up or shut up time for the defending World Series champions. The Marlins have struggled ever since about six weeks into the season. They have been pretty atrocious with the bats and have underachieved. Granted there have been injuries, especially with the pitching staff. But, Jack McKeon's boys are going to get it going. There is just too much talent here with Mike Lowell, Paul LoDuca, Miguel Cabrera, Juan Pierre, etc. They are as due as a team can be.

Today the fish send their best starter in Carl Pavano to the hill. Pavano is as solid as they come. He very very rarely gets rocked and eats up innings. The righty game-in and game-out goes at least 7-plus innings and gives up a token two or three runs. That will be more than enough tonight against Sterling Hitchcock who is at least three years past his prime. The lefty did have a good last outing against the Braves, but that just means that he will get bombed here by a bunch of powerful righties.

This is just a terrible matchup for Hitchcock and the Marlins will exploit it with a blowout victory.

                            Thanks and some great info

As a newbie to this forum just wanted to say thanks to all the great info here. I came across a website that lists some great info for those of us who follow Services. They seem to be an honest monitoring service out of Vegas and very legitimate. This is NOT selling anything, just some great stats. Check it out.
