Doc Sports Freebie
Play New England -3 Over Cincinnati.
We don't usually make a point of going with a favorite on the road - but this is the preseason and this is New England. 4-0 last year and very impressive last week against Philly. This team doesn't take a game off - period. That is a sign of great coaching. Try and get this line tonight because it may not be around for long.GLTA

Season record: 214-218 -20.29 UNITS
OVER 9 NYM (GLAVINE)/SF (TOMKO) +104 - 1 UNIT - 1:05pm Pacific
Glavine will be making his first start since being involved in a car accident. He isn't fully healed yet, so some ineffectiveness is probable. He may have started a second half let down, as his numbers compared to his first half have not been favorable. His control and command have taken a hit, which combined with his recent injury and San Francisco's ability against lefties, may lead to some runs being given up by him. Tomko has been worse at home and during the day. Surprisingly, SBC Park has also been host to some high scoring games this year.
LA (WEAVER) -117 over Atl (Hampton) -117 - 1 UNIT - 1:10pm Pacific
Weaver's been one of the hottest pitchers in the league, giving up more than 3 ER only twice in his last 21 starts! Over his last five starts, he hasn't given up more than 2 ER. He hasn't shown any signs of coming out of his incredible streak; the only question would be whether he'll get enough run support, because he should have success against the Atlanta lineup.
PHI (PADILLA) -131 over Mil (Obermueller) - 1 UNIT - 4:05pm Pacific
In his two starts since coming off the DL, Padilla has a 2.25 ERA and 0.92 WHIP. Although Obermueller had a great line his last time out, his numbers all around are pretty bad. He will not post consecutive quality starts.
CIN (HARANG) +107 over Ari (Webb) - 1 UNIT - 7:05pm Pacific
Webb picked up a W in his last start, but he still hasn't shown an ability to correct his control problems, which have been plagueing him all year. Harang has been pitching very well, but it's been masked by poor offensive support and a shoddy defense. Webb's problems, however, should be enough to overcome this.
OVER 11 ANA (SELE)/NYY (LOAIZA) -108 - 1 UNIT - 10:05am Pacific
Sele's 7-1 record is very misleading, as he has not been pitching well at all. Even when his numbers looked good on paper, in reality he was getting lucky in the form of abnormally high strand rates and abnormally low hit rates. Once those rates started to normalize, then numbers started to get ugly. He had a nice game against Detroit in his last start, but he hasn't done well against the Yankee hitters, who should be able to knock him around. Loaiza has been pretty bad as well. The Angel hitters have also had their way with him, so both starters should give up their fair share of runs.
BOS (ARROYO) -143 over CHW (Stewart) - 1 UNIT - 10:05am Pacific
Arroyo has been pitching well, but hasn't been getting enough run support to show for it. That shouldn't be a problem today, as Boston should be able to score off of finesse lefty Josh Stewart, who was called up for this start. His overall numbers at Triple-A are pedestrian, and he's given up a lot of HRs. The Boston offense should be able to give Arroyo enough run support today.GLTA

Robert Ross FREEBIE
Houston Texans at Pittsburgh Steelers
Saturday, August 21, 2004 7:30 P.M. EDT EST
Houston had it in for the Cowboys last week and played well in an 18-0 home win. Doubt they'll show the same fire this week on the road vs. a Pittsburgh club that lost last week but moved the ball in scoring 21 points at Detroit.
Good Luck -Robert Ross
