Atlanta Braves vs. San Diego Padres
2004-08-18: Scheduled Start 10:05 PM EST
Stay Under the Total
I'm not so sure the Braves are the team San Diego wants to be facing right now, especially with Paul Byrd on the mound - an arm who has had a lot of success against them. The Padres have to be frustrated with their lack of success at home, losing 7 of it's last 8 home games and 13 of it's last 18, including game 1 of this series.
That said, David Wells has been automatic against the Braves, a perfect 3-0 through 3 starts, allowing just 2 runs spread over 22 innings work, fanning 17 and issuing not even one single walk, earning a razor sharp career 0.82 ERA & 0.82 WHIP. In a pitchers ballpark, can you say Under?
MLB-LA Dodgers(O.Perez) -1.5 runline +125 to win
vs Marlins( Valdez)
10 PM ET
The Dodgers starter(O.Perez)comes into this tilt in top form and is coming off out pitching Greg Maddux in Fridays win over the Cubs at Wrigely.Perez has taken his team to victory in his L3 outings and has garnered a very stingy looking 0.92 ERA and 0.92 WHIP over that span. Note: Perezs team have won his L5 starts(100%) against the Marlins.
The Marlins will reply with Ismael Valdez. The right hander comes into this game having had alot of problems this season against todays competetion the Dodgers and has allowed his former teammates to batter him for 10 runs in 6 2/3 innings of horrible work. The Marlins hurler also has an away ERA of 8.67 on the season.bottom line: I expect Perez to continue to dominate opposition batters while his batting order backs him up by lighting up the Marlins starter(Valdez). Play the runline -1.5 Dodgers(Perez)----RUNLINE BEST BET

Play On: Halos (Colon)
This Angels team is tough to figure out. For five or six games they look unbeatable and playing back to their World Series form, then the next next week they look like the Royals. Their body language suggests a team that does not have the burning desire to win on a daily basis.
This will not detour us from selecting the Halos today. The Angels are 25-13 against LH starters and the D-Rays starter Hendrickson has been hit hard of late with an ERA 8.62 in his last three outings. Don't get us wrong, Colon is no bargain given his size and the size of his ERA this season. Can not ignore the fact that he is 6-0 against the D-Rays.
The IMPACT SPORTS PICKS Super System that catches our eye is:
PLAY AGAINST home underdogs with a money line of +125 or more with a starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.300 to 1.400 on the season-AL, with a team batting average of .265 or worse on the season (AL). (77-20 since 1997.) (79.4%, +41.9 units)
Uneven Anaheim takes out the slumping D-Rays.

The Mets send newly acquired Kris Benson to the mound tonight. In 3 starts since the trade Benson has been rocked in 2 of them. Tonight he faces one of the best home pitchers in Baseball, Shawn Estes. Since 1997 Estes when pitching at home against a team with a losing record his team has gone 43-13. We'll back
him again tonight
2* MINNESOTA over NY Yankees (Santana over Mussina)
Santana has become Minnesota’s ace, and while he doesn’t have the championships of Mussina, he is clearly the better pitcher. Santana is a strikeout machine, and he comes in with 29 strikeouts over his last 3 starts to just 4 walks, and in those 3 games his ERA is a solid 2.58 with him averaging 7 1/3 innings per start. He is 6-0 this season at home when his team is coming off consecutive wins, and 8-1 overall this season at home when they are coming off at least one win. Minnesota has actually has success against good power teams this season with a 7-0 record versus teams that are averaging 1.5 or more HRs per game, and Santana has had similar success at 7-1 last 3 seasons in the second half against such teams. The Yankees are not a team built on speed, and for that reason they often struggle in domes as noted by their 5-5 record this season indoors with opponents averaging 5.4 runs per game against them in those dome games. Minnesota gets the nod with Santana on the hill.
