Alex Smart - solid writeup
Anaheim Angels(Sele)/Baltimore Orioles(Cabrera) ) OVER 9
10:05 PM ET
Both of todays pitchers come into this contest in below average form. Sele the Angels starter despite his 7-0 record in 2004 has a bloated 5.00 ERA over his L3 starts and has seen all three of those appearances go over the set Total. The Angles righthander has seen 10 of his 13 starts go OVER the Total during this current campaign. His ERA is a sub par 4.60 in those outings. Baltimore on the season are hitting righthanders like the Angels (Sele) at a hefty .294 clip. Sele is 6-7 when starting against the Orioles during his career with an ERA of 6.24 and a WHIP of 1.85.
The Oriloes starter for this tilt is also in a low cycle and has allowed 25 hits over his L17 innings of work . The righty has an ugly looking 6.88 ERA over that span along with a 1.88 WHIP. The O’s hurler continues to struggle with his mechanics and in my opinion could be suffering from dead arm syndrome. Something a lot of pitchers must suffer during the long MLB season. The Angles are hitting righthanders like Cabrera at a .288 clip this season. Cabrera is 0-1 when starting against Angels in his career with an ERA of 13.50 and a WHIP of 3.00. Note: Ten of the L15 meetings in this series dating back to last season have gone OVER the set Total.Bottom line: I expect two top notch offenses to tee off on two pitchers who are currently not good form. Final Notes. The Orioles are 55-36 favoring the OVER when playing on grass this season and have gone over in 40 of their 65 games vs righthanders this season. The Angels have gone OVER in 11 of 15 vs losing teams in the second half of the season. Everything points to todays number being eclipsed

CHOKE YOUR BOOKIE
Free pick of the Day: (5-2 last week)
8-10-04- Giants / Pirates
Winner: Over 8.5
REASON: The Giants enter this game on a hot streak against right handers, including an average of .303 in the last 10 games. They were able to hit against Kerry Wood in their last game and now they go against Fogg. The Pirates are 1-5 in Fogg's last 6 starts. The Pirates are always a better hitting team at home. The over is 5-1-1 in Tomko's last 7 starts. Tomko is not all to blame for these overs. The Giants bullpen has an atrocious 9.00 ERA in their last 10 games. Both these teams combined should no trouble getting past 8.5
WUNDERDOG
AUG: 3-5
*Montreal (+107) vs. Arizona (Hernandez vs. Johnson)
Livan has been the most consistent starter for the Expos this season and Montreal is coming off a series where they took two of three at Houston. It is safe to say that Montreal is playing their best baseball of the season to date. The Diamondbacks, on the other hand, were just spanked on their homestand. Johnson will get very little run support this evening, making the Expos a nice value here. The D-Backas are just 17-37 and batting .232 on the road this year. They are also 5-21 (-19.7 Units) after 5 or more consecutive home games this season and 21-57 (-39.9 Units) after a loss this season. One unit on Montreal.

AUG: 6-1
We are on a 30-20 free play run, and Tuesday we will use the New York Yankees.
Are you kidding me! To grab Kevin Brown at this price is a steal. The Yankees are 9-1 in Brown's last 10 starts, and 20-9 in their last 29 overall. The Rangers have struggled, going 0-4 in their last four overall. Stay with the bombers tonight, as they destroy the Rangers !
TRACE ADAMS
AUG: 7-1
19-5 last 24 as the Blue Jays and Yankees stayed UNDER the total last night.
Tonight, I like the Reds to light Jose Lima up like a Christmas tree!
Lima is due for a serious meltdown, and the Reds' attack is now at full-strength and will do some serious damage to a hurler who has been doing it with mirrors this season.
Harang owns a convincing May win over Los Angeles, and tonight all he has to do is keep his club close before the wall gets broken down in a big way with Jose on the hill!!!
2* Cincinnati w/Harang

Yesterday, my fourth in a row winning freebie,
with the Hall of Fame game going OVER the Total!
Tuesday's Free Play
3* MINNESOTA TWINS
(Scale : 1* to 5*)
Minnesota (Mulholland) over Seattle (Meche)
Minnesota is trying to earn a postseason berth and if that's going to happen they can't let a team like the Mariners get in their way. The Twins have already beat them four of six this year. The Mariners are playing awful baseball, having lost 12 of the last 16. Starter Gil Meche spent June and most of July in the minors, has lost his last three decisions and has not won since May 2. Also note the M's terrible 4-11 record at home against lefties. I'll take the 1st-place Twins with Terry Mulholland tonight.
BOB G
AUG: 4-4
Boston and Tampa Bay over 9.5 -115
We think you are getting good value here. The Red Sox have trended towards the under but that is because they were on a long road trip. Tampa also has trended under lately. The difference is the Red Sox are gold in terms of the over at Fenway. Red Sox are 35-16 over on the year at home. Both pitchers have pitched well but they don't knock my socks off. This is a solid play.
SGH
We're on a 81-51-2 run with our last 134 complimentary releases
For Tuesday take St. Louis to beat Florida.
Despite a great season thus far St. Louis is still getting a cheap price against lesser opponents.
The Cards are 25-11 in game one of series. They are 26-6 in their last 32 overall. They are 36-17 on the road.
On top of that Chris Carpenter is pitching with a 12-4 record and 3.73 ERA. St Louis is 15-6 when he starts.
The cherry on top is the miserable season Josh Beckett is having for Florida. Beckett is 4-7 with a 4.54 ERA. He's 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA in his last three starts.
No reason to get too deep on this game. All signs point to the Red Birds yet they can be had for a great price.
Take St. Louis because it isn't too good to be true.

Ok, I keep saying that getting Randy Johnson at less than 125 on the road is worth the risk. You look for value in baseball and you are getting it tonight. I can't pass up the big unit at this price. I just can't.
Johnson has been quite successful in his career against the Expos, posting a 3-2 record with a 2.49 ERA and I see a dominating performance tonight.
Montreal will counter with ace righthander Livan Hernandez. Hernandez is unbeaten (2-0) over his last three starts, including a no- decision against St. Louis last Wednesday. The rubber-armed hurler was touched for nine hits and four runs over 6 2/3 innings, while fanning six and walking four. However, he hasn't been all that successful against the D'backs. He has made 14 career starts against the Diamondbacks, posting a 6-6 record with a 4.01 ERA..
Watch the D'backs get the Big Unit 5 runs and watch him do the rest.
3* ARIZONA
SEAN MICHAELS COMPS
on a 46-20 run the last 66 comp picks (23-11 in the NL and 23-9 in the AL).
