    MLB YTD: 20-5 and +4499

I'm getting down on this one early. Before I give the pick, I want to preface it with this: I am in this to make money--period. I am not trying to impress anyone with the magical win no one saw coming. OK, enough said, this is what I like:

    6* Cards -110 (Carpenter, Beckett)

    Tony,

I couldn't agree with you more on that statement. It's all about the GREEN nothing else matters.

    GL on the Cards tomorrow

You can pick the Cards 162 times for all I care. If you go 157-5, more power to ya!

                  T,

Your selections are smart ones. That is evident. I paid the price Sunday going with a bad team. The only thing that astonishes me is why I still do it from time to time.

I think there is an element of hero syndrome...an ego thing. In any case, your plays have been a reminder for me of what this whole thing is about: winning money with SMART plays.

                  I'm on it. gl...dave

                      tony

as i have since you came on board i again congratulate you on your fine record i would like to ask you what does it mean by impressing someone with the magical win that noone saw coming
mean we all have different styles but i know thats why i am here and i play line movements that move in the wrong direction and lines that appear off i am quite sure that wiz goes the same way. the term for this used to be sharp now especially on this board is called fading people on this board have some great writeups for their selections and they play but honestly i have to tell you the stuff in the writeups are known by most WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS. I LOOK AT THE FACTS AND THE TRENDS AND IF THE LINE DOSENT MATCH OR IF IT IS GOING THE wrong way i am playing it. there is no ego here no promoting just trying to win money once again congratulations on a fine record

                        LENCAP,

I'm not going to answer for Tony, but I do want to comment. I know exactly where Tony is coming from because I have lived it--to my regret.

Being a 'contrare' capper in by nature, I often found myself on the wrong side of a game because I was either on a bad team or against a good one.

While I am still a contrare capper, I try to avoid those mistakes. It's great when you make a good call that no one saw coming; but it stinks when you lose it and look stupid for playing a bad team.

                          dave

i would think that a contrarian would blindly just go the other way that is not my case on sunday expos vs astros clemens vs tucker then kim in both instances there was a major line drop in favor of the expos therefore albeit not the moneyline i played the runline to be safe if that move did not happen i would not have given the expos a look at all last night with phillies was basically the same burnitzs out walker gone phils home there was a drop which to me didnt make sense once again i played the runline instead of opting for the big price in both cases if the opening line would have been noticebly lower i would have gone for the moneyline

                              Len,

First, that comment wasn't directed toward anyone. I don't look at other cappers picks now because I don't want them to influence my decision either way.

Next, I wrote it because of the good-natured ribbing I was getting for picking the Cards alot. They are the #1 money in bases and the best road team in the league as well (plus other factors) that lead me to take them often.

Finally, it's just my philosophy: pick the best game on the board to win money. That's all. I already said more than I wanted to. I will just give picks from now on, minus the commentary.

                              GL.........T
