Season record: 191-193 - 17.88 UNITS
Six plays for Sunday:
UNDER 8 NYM (GLAVINE)/PHI (BYRD) -111 - 1 UNIT - 10:05am Pacific
Byrd has put up some pretty good peripheral numbers so far this year. His K/9 is 5.3, which isn't great, but it's good for him, considering that he's not a strikeout artist. His K/BB is an impressive 3.4. This mirrors his excellent season he had with the Royals in 2002. With Leo Mazzone on his side, he should continue to be pretty good. Glavine has also been good, but he's been even better in day games, where he has 1.28 ERA and .207 BAA.
HOU (OSWALT) -145 over Cin (Wilson) - 1 UNIT - 10:15am Pacific
Wilson's external numbers are good, but a look at his peripheral numbers indicate that he's been getting lucky. In particular, his strand rate has been abnormally high. Once his strand rate starts to normalize, expect the runners to score and his ERA to go up. This might be a good spot for that to happen. Oswalt has had great success against the Reds lineup, so I think he will keep them at bay.
PIT (WELLS) +151 over Mil (Sheets) - 1 UNIT - 11:05am Pacific
Over his last five starts, Wells has thrown four high quality ones. Over this stretch, he has a 2.59 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, .197 BAA, and is keeping the ball in the park. The Pirates have seen Sheets twice this year, and he hasn't exactly dominated them. I think this is good value, given Wells' recent surge.
ARI (GONZALEZ) +190 over Col (Cook) - 1 UNIT - 12:05pm Pacific
Gonzalez has been poor and Cook has been good, but I still don't think the Rockies should ever be -200 favorites. Cook, with his sinkerball, has the stuff to be successful at Coors, but his control has been spotty. Anything can happen in this ballpark, so I'll take the high number.
OVER 7 LA (PEREZ)/SD (WELLS) -116 - 1 UNIT - 1:05pm Pacific
Wells has given up 10 ER in his last two starts, and recently revealed that he's been playing with a sore left knee. Perez hasn't had too much success against the Padres, and this is a pretty low number to overcome.
LA (PEREZ) +124 over SD (Wells) - 1 UNIT - 1:05pm PacificGLTA

New York Mets at Atlanta Braves
Sunday, August 1, 2004 1:05 P.M. EDT EST
The Mets made a couple trade deadline deals to shore up their starting staff. However, unless they shore up their defense they're never going to be a contending club and their pitchers will never be all that they can be.
Good Luck - Robert Ross

JULY: 17-7
Chicago Cubs -1.5 runs +140 over Philadelphia
Talk about a team motivated by a trade how about the Cubs. They were getting horrible play out of their shortstop both hitting and fielding. Now they get Nomar. They are playing a Phillies team that is about to fire Larry Bowa. Bowa will be lucky to make it past today. The Phillies are the biggest disappointment and have lost five of their last six. The Cubbies are 4-2 in their last 6. Greg Maddux has been lights out recently with a 1.13 ERA and the Cubs have won his last three starts and seven of his last 10. Wolf has a 5.28 ERA in his last three and the Phillies are 1-4 in his last 5.

JEFF BENTON
Ok, I am on a 28-12 free pick run and I will get to your next free winner in just a second.
Sunday we go with Anaheim -1 1/2 runs.
Bartolo Colon has been incredible in the 2nd half and will shut this lineup down, especially after yesterday's marathon, extra-inning game.
Anaheim may be without Guerrero and Eckstein after both were hit by balls yesterday, so we'll need a few runs, but I'm looking at a 4-1 ball game, maybe 5-2.
Colon has taken in consideration some serious changes with his delivery that was costing him huge in the first half, and most of all it is the time between pitches that he takes.
Colon is now in a groove and his delivery is much more smoother than it has been in the past.
Look for Seattle, which could've won yesterday after taking an 11th inning lead, but was emotionally drained after losing in the bottom half of the inning, to leave its game at the Anaheim Hilton today!!!
3* ANAHEIM -1 1/2 RUNS
