    WinOnBaseball.com - Saturday - 7/24/04

NOTE: NEXT UPDATE WILL ON TUESDAY, JULY 27.

Welcome to our first annual service free trial!

-- WinOnBaseball handicaps Major League Baseball exclusively.

-- All plays with analysis, along with current and past season records, will be updated weekly on the "Records" page of our website.

-- All records will be documented at National Sports Monitor (*********.com)

-- NEXT UPDATE will be sent before 6:00am Pacific on Tuesday, July 27th.

    Season record: 182-181 -13.46 UNITS

    Seven plays for Saturday:

    CIN (HARANG) -104 over Pit (Fogg) - 2 UNITS - 4:05pm Pacific
Harang is a seriously hot pitcher right now. He has allowed 3 ER in his last 25 IP, including a 10K, 1BB, 5 hit performance against Milwaukee. Starts like that don't happen on a fluke basis. This body of work comes after missing a month due to elbow troubles. Opponent's batting average and his command has been excellent over this period of time. Fogg hasn't been giving up a lot of ER lately, but his K/BB ratio still stinks, and his stuff is still below average. I expect Harang to lead the Reds to a win.

    CHC (ZAMBRANO) -138 over Phi (Abbott) - 1 UNIT - 12:15pm Pacific
Don't really know why Abbott is starting for the Phillies. He has had some pathetic starts and the team has better options, and these types of moves tell me why Philadelphia won't ever win anything. Billy Wagner will miss the rest of this series. Zambrano has been shaky in his last two starts, and I've always been fearing a meltdown from him due to his high workload, but the Cubs offense should be able to hit Abbott well enough to give Zambrano plenty of runs to work with.

    SF (TOMKO) +163 over STL (Carpenter) - 1 UNIT - 12:15pm Pacific
Carpenter is one pitcher that I'm looking to play against in the second half. He's coming off of a 73.1 IP in 2002 and 0 IP in 2003, so I think durability will be an issue. Although his K/BB rate has been excellent, some slippage has occurred in other areas. OBA has been steadily rising, and opponents are hitting .333 against him in July, so this does not look good. Of course, he's got an excellent offense behind him, which makes the over appealing as well, but I think the Giants at this number presents some nice value.

    OVER 10 MIL (HENDRICKSON)/HOU (REDDING) -101 - 1 UNIT - 4:05pm Pacific
Big things are expected from him, but Hendrickson hasn't been fooling anybody in his brief major league appearances, so he has the potential to get lit up in a hitter's paradise like Minute Maid. Redding will be making his first start in about a month after being demoted to the bullpen. His bullpen stint was not good, as he got knocked around on a regular basis.

    KC (GEORGE) +162 over Cle (Tadano) - 1 UNIT - 10:05am Pacific
Although I'm not high on George, I will be taking this because the line is too high. Tadano has looked very good in three starts, which was sandwiched around a very bad relief appearance. Tadano still hasn't proven himself in my eyes, and with Cleveland's bad bullpen, this game could go back and forth. If that's the case, then I'll take the dog at this high number.

    BOS (ARROYO) -125 over NYY (Sturtze) - 1 UNIT - 12:15pm Pacific
The last time Arroyo gave up more than 3 ER was June 1st. He's been on fire, and he turned in one of the most dominating starts of the year his last time out (albeit against the weak hitting Seattle lineup). If not for the lack of run support, everyone would be talking about his breakout year. Lack of run support should not be a problem against Sturtze, whom the Boston lineup should be able to hit.

    DET (JOHNSON) +108 over CHW (Schoeneweis) - 1 UNIT - 4:05pm Pacific
Johnson is one of the hottest pitchers in the AL. He was pretty bad in April/May, but has really turned things around in June/July. His HR rate and K/BB rate have improved tremendously. He should not have too much of a problem against the righty dominated Sox lineup

      Yanks vs Sox Game #2
Gotta go with the OVER 10.5 Play today in this one.

Sturske is 3-6 w/ a 7.09 ERA vs Boston and just 0-3 w/ a 10.08 ERA @ Fenway. Boston will get their share today off him. Arroyo 1-4 w/ a 5.27 ERA @ Home this year and faces a very Hot hitting Yankees team today.

      My Play:
      OVER 10.5 New York-Boston...7 Units
      ********************************************
Additionally he posted this dog recap on his web site but please note he is NOT specifically rating any of these plays.

      Saturdays Top Dogs

Philadelphia +130...14-3 In Game #2's after a loss
      New York Yanks +125....Dog again...?
Detroit +110...Johnson has been solid...Schoenweiss sucks.
KC +160 Game #1/+140 game #2....Clev facing 2 lefties which they struggled against...plus they are in a hitting funk..KC should get 1 of these games.
