I still believe Jason Schmidt is the best pitcher in baseball. He's compiled a 2.26 ERA in 13 starts and comes off a one-hitter against Boston. The Giants are 10-1 and have to be completely overwhelmed to sweep a four-game series against the Dodgers without Schmidt taking the mound. Talk about momentum. Oakland has scored three runs or less in 6/7 games. How many do you think they will get off of Schmidt? Schmidt has a 103:29 K/BB ratio on the season and has allowed just six home runs in 92 innings. Oakland is only 7-7 with Barry Zito, who personally has one victory in six home starts. The Giants are 15-8 against left-handed starters and 17-4 with Schmidt when coming off two or more consecutive wins the last three years. The Giants have won 13 of 15 with Schmidt as a road favorite from -125 to
-175. The Giants are 32-10 with Schmidt against teams with winning records.
I know Oakland has dominated inter-league play with the best record in baseball and rarely loses at home. But I can't resist Schmidt at this price and Zito has been nothing special of late allowing 11 earned runs, 22 hits, and issuing nine walks in his last three starts totaling just 15 innings.

We'll ride a hot Cardinals team (8-2, +$580 last 10 days)
into Kaufman Stadium, as they look to shut down their
beleaguered in in-state rival . Matt Morris has been
at his best in night road games (3.67 ERA) and should
fare well vs. a KC team that has lost a bundle vs. righties
this year (-$940). St. Louis has been most effective away
from Busch Stadium, particularly against righthanders (19-
10, +$930). Zack Grienke has not been as sharp in his
last two starts (5.54 ERA) so the short road price looks like
a bargain.
