    Joe Gavazzi''s

    Here''s today''s Penthouse Pick:

Chicago White Sox with Schoenweis (-105) over Cleveland with Sabathia
We stay in the Windy City following our 4-1 victory with the Cubs
yesterday. Today we show that there is more about winning Baseball
selections than starting pitchers. The White Sox have a substantial
hitting advantage over the Indians as well as clearly the better bullpen
vs. a Tribe relief corp that is the worst in MLB. Cleveland''s Sabathia
has an outstanding 2.99 ERA yet Cleveland is just 6-7 in his starts
including just 1-4 on the road. Schoenweis has dropped his last three
decisions to fall to 5-5 on the year, yet he is a perfect 2-0 vs.
Cleveland this season. Home/Road dichtomy clinches this decision as the
White Sox are 20-12 at home while Cleveland is just 12-19 away.

Anybody see Michael Alexander picks today - he is posting 33-13 last 46...has 4 pack on a light day......

          --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We're taking the big underdog Pirates to plunder the Astros. Didn't know that Pitt was a bunch of Space Pirates did you? I guess you have to go to parties with them to know that.

Anyway, both pitchers are awful. Redding has an 8.11 ERA on the road at night, allowing a huge 17.6 hits & walks per 9 innings. For Pitt, Fogg, whose been in a Fogg lately, has an 8.24 ERA on the road at night, allowing 13.5 hits & walks per 9.

Since hits and walks allowed is a much more accurate measurement of pitcher performance than ERA, Pittsburgh gets the edge in pitching. The available bull pens are approximately equal.

Offensively, Houston hits .290 against righties at home, while the Pirates hit .286 against righties on the road. That's too close to call the hitting anything but equal.

Pittsburgh get the slight pitching edge in what is otherwise a pick'em affair. The odds on Pittsburgh are +160, however. Anytime you can get +160 on a coin flip, take it and you'll eventually be rich.

              Monday Night Baseball Play

6/21/04: Free Play from Prime Sports Picks

ARIZONA (Fossum) +150 at SAN DIEGO (Valdez) -160:
              MLB - 10:05PM (EST)

Not much action on the bases tonight, so we are digging deep here for a nice risk / reward situation in the Diamondbacks & Padres game.

Neither of these two teams are playing very well, Arizona has just 4 wins in their last 10, dropping 5 of their last 6, while the Padres are just (2-8) in their last 10 games, losing 7 of their last 8. In fact, both teams are coming off series against the exact same 3 teams - the Yankees, Tampa Bay & Toronto (& both were swept by the D-Rays).

Yes Valdez has been the better of the two pitchers this season, but considering that both offenses are struggling lately (averaging under 3.5 runs per game in their last 10), it appears the line is over-valuing San Diego at -160. Take a look at the numbers yourself and decide whether the reward of a play on Arizona outweighs the risk.

              Best of luck,
              -Drew

                  GODS PICKS

                  HOUSTON (REDDING –175) Pittsburgh (Fogg)

Houston is in the midst of an 11-game home stand and need to get well quick. Welcome Pittsburgh Pirates. They have lost 17-of-20. The Pirates bring in a pitcher who has been in a “fogg” all year. Josh Fogg has a 7.16 road ERA and 6.57 overall. Houston is 39-12 at home in the series including 16-4 last three years. The Pirates are 0-6 as a road dog of 150-175.

The Pirates are hitting just .220 with an OBP of .264 over the last week. We look for the Astros to get back on track against the reeling Bucs.

                            winning points

CHICAGO W. SOX (Schoeneweis) -105 vs. CLEVELAND (Sabathia)

This duel of southpaws favors the visitor, given the Indians'
ineffectiveness vs. lefthanders this season (6-15, -$1000
so far). C.C. Sabathia has pitched well, but has suffered from
a lack of run support. The White Sox have lost money vs. lefties,
but have pounded out an average of 6.4 runs per game when
facing them. That's a full two runs per game better than the Tribe,
and that's reason enough for us. And in the long run, Chicago
will be in the playoff picture long after the Indians have faded away.

                                Glen's Picks June 21

20* POD Cle/CWS Over 9.....Over is 3-2 between these two teams this year, 4 of Sabathia's last five, and 3 of Schoeneweis' last 4.

10* Pit/Hou Under 9.....Fogg has been tough, and these teams faced each other 5 times this year, and 4 of 5 went Under (the 5th was a push!).

10* LAD ML.....Perez already beat these guys twice this year, and the Dodgers are doing well. Rueter is not good.

5* Oak ML.....Harden already pitched against these Angels and lost, Lackey hasn't seen them yet. Anaheim swept the A's in Oakland when they met last, that won't happen this time, starting with today.
