    WinOnBaseball.com - Tuesday Report - 04/20/04

-- WinOnBaseball handicaps Major League Baseball exclusively.

-- All plays with analysis, along with current and past season records, will be updated daily on the "Records" page of our website.

-- All records will be documented at National Sports Monitor (*********.com)

-- NEXT UPDATE will be sent before 6:00am Pacific on WEDNESDAY, April 21.

All lines taken from Pinnacle are current as of 4/20/04 11:57pm Pacific.

    Season record: 21-28 -9.84 UNITS

    Six plays for Tuesday:

    UNDER 9 ATL (THOMSON)/CIN (ACEVEDO) -104 - 1 UNIT - 4:10pm Pacific
Thomson has looked very sharp in his two starts, allowing only 3 ER, 3 walks, and registering 11 Ks in 13 IP. He's always had a solid skill set, and it's showing now that he's playing for Atlanta. I expect him to continue with his solid pitching. Acevedo has also looked very good in his starts. He should have pretty good success against their lineup, especially minus Chipper Jones.

    MIL (SHEETS) -133 over Ari (Dessens) - 1 UNIT - 4:35pm Pacific
Sheets left his last start early due to back stiffness, but all reports say that he's fine. Sheets wins this starting pitching matchup here, and I think the Brewers can give their pitching staff enough run support to work with. Dessens had a bad spring, and had a terrible game in his last start (it was at Coors, so it wasn't entirely his fault). He has endurance problems, so we'll probably see the below average bullpen early.

    SF (HERMANSON) -132 over SD (Lawrence) - 1 UNIT - 7:15pm Pacific
Lawrence has experienced a 3 year decline in his trends, and his Spring and 3 starts this year is further proof of his decline. Even in his win against the Dodgers, he wasn't very impressive. Opponents are batting .353 against him, and he has a 1.96 WHIP. His skill set numbers are also very poor. In limited history against the Padre hitters, Hermanson hasn't fared too well, but the sample size is small, and I think the Giants will be able to hit Lawrence.

    TOR (HALLADAY) +115 over Bos (Martinez) - 1 UNIT - 4:05pm Pacific
Halladay has pitched very well so far, despite having a losing record. He lost in this same matchup earlier, but I think he can come out on top today. There's been rampant speculation about Pedro's health, although he says he's 100%. Whatever the case may be, Pedro is definitely off right now. He's already given up 4 HRs, compared to 7 all of last year. In his last start, he walked more batters than he struck out. He has dominated Toronto's lineup in the past, but I think the Jays can get to him today.

    CHW (BUEHRLE) -122 over NYY (Graman) - 1 UNIT - 5:05pm Pacific
Buehrle was excellent in his start against the Yankees, and did not give up any ER in 8 IP. I don't expect him to duplicate that in this outing, but I do expect the Sox to hit Graman pretty hard. The Sox's righty dominated lineup are finally starting to show that they can hit lefty pitching. Graman is a lefty who is not overpowering and has problems locating things within the strike zone. Frank Thomas may sit this one out, but I think their lineup will still have enough firepower to hit this lefty.

    TEX (ROGERS) +149 over Ana (Ortiz) - 1 UNIT - 7:05pm Pacific
Oritz is on my "bad pitcher" list this year, meaning I will always consider betting against him or on the over in games he pitches. I think this is good value here. The Halos are hitting .229 against lefties so far, but I think the Rangers will win this by getting to Ortiz. I'm not too confident in Rogers, which made me to strongly consider taking the over as well. In the end, I think the Rangers offense will lead them to a win in this game.

      MLB Freebie for April 20th

Free picks are 55-37 (+32.73 units) in 2004. They are currently 13-6 last 19 and on a 2-game losing streak.

Free 1-unit MLB Freebie for April 20th:

      Take Texas/Anaheim Over 9.5 runs at +100

I know Rogers has been good so far this season but Ortiz has been brutal so far. These 2 offenses are among the best in the AL and when you consider the offensive weapons in this one it is baffling to me that the line is 9.5 and at EVEN odds on the over! Let's take advantage of this as Texas' bullpen is suspect and I am not sold that Ortiz's pitching woes are over. This over should hit by the end of 6 innings.

          The Dunkel Index

          Astros, Cardinals Open Three-Game Set
The Astros and Cardinals open up a big Central Division series tonight in Houston. The Astros have been on a roll winning three straight and seven of their last eight, including a three-game sweep of the Cardinals in St. Louis last week. Wade Miller gets the call for the Astros. Miller (2-0) beat the Cardinals 11-1 on April 14. He'll go up against Jeff Suppan, who has been less than superb (0-2, 6.55). Dunkel has the Astros favored by 4. Here are all of Tuesday's games.

            Baseball Play/Tuesday.......

This was just copied from the members page....___________________________

We had a 2-0 night last night in Baseball and a loss in the NBA Playoffs as the Rockets totally collapsed in the second half. There is a good liklihood that we will have have an NBA Play for tonight and we will ask you to check back at 4:45 Cst. At that time we will probably have a Heavy Hitter Play as well......This is another one of those days where we have a lot of baseball plays. We have rated them accordingly...........

            Braves/Reds Under 9 (Thomson/Acevedo)

This year has been a very interesting one for us and Major League Baseball. We have seen a number of high scoring games and the primary reason has been the lack of quality bullpens by a number of teams. We are beginning to see who can close and who cannot and so are the managers as they shift duties in the pens......Because of that, and starters going longer and longer, we should see more lower scoring games in the next few weeks.

                        JIMMY ASHTON

                        MLB 3* FLA/PHIL UNDER

Dontrelle Willis is looking again like the world-beater he was in the early going last season before wearing down late. He is 2-0 this season allowing 0 runs on 9 hits thru 12+ innings. Willis faced Philly 3 times last season and was already feeling the fatigue in a pair of September starts where the Phils touched him up for 7 runs in 12+ IP. In his July start against them, Willis allowed 3 hits and a run in 6 IP.

Florida has played under the total in 11 of their 12 games this season and is coming off a sweep at the hands of the Atlanta Braves over the weekend. The Marlins swept the Phils at Pro Player earlier this month as all 3 games played under the total.

The Phillies are riding a 4-game win streak in their brand new Citizens Bank Park and in their night games they are under in 3 of 4.

Vicente Padilla will bring in a 3.13 L/T ERA tonight
