Cashed in both college hoops plays last night, but lost a tough one in the NBA. I'm going stay away from the pros for a while to concentrate on the tournaments. These are my plays for tonights NIT action.........
5 STAR: RUTGERS (-4) OVER Temple
This is a good match up for the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers is a very good home team, posting a 13-2 record this season at the RAC and they are facing an Owls team they beat earlier in the year by ten points. Temple has been playing some very bad defense down the stretch. In their last five games, Temple has allowed their opponents to shoot 45% for the field and 40% from three point land while allowing over 71 points per game, which is up almost 10 points over the average they have allowed for the season. It is also no surprise that they are 0-5 against the spread in those games. These teams match up pretty evenly in most areas, but Rutgers was one of the best three point shooting teams in the Big East at 36% for the season, and that is where they have a big advantage over Temple. In the first match up, Rutgers was 12-23 (52.2%) from behind the line, while Temple was only 6-23 (26.1%) from downtown. The Owls were dead last in the Atlantic 10 in three point shooting and will be in trouble in this game if their defense does not improve. Rutgers is 8-3 against the spread at home this season and 4-2 against the spread the last three seasons as a home favorite of 3.5 to 6 points. The Scarlet Knights are also 3-1 straight up and 2-0 against the spread in the last four meetings with the Owls. Temple is 8-1 against the spread in their last nine NIT games, but this is not the Temple team of old, this is a bad team that is 0-4 against the spread versus the Big East this year and I don't see them doing anything different here. Lay the points!
