Personally, I am not sure ARod will be the difference between Yanks winning or not winning the WS.
When Giambi came over, we heard the same stuff.
ARod while a great individual player has not proven he is a great team player or a winner in the true sense.
Remember this is his third team in last few years, and I saw no improvement in Texas's record before and after his arrival;please don't use the excuse of no pitching;truly great players can lead their teams out of mediocrity, and he has not shown that yet, or in the case of yankess be the player who puts them over the top.
I am a big Red Sox fan, and I was thrilled they kept Nomar instead of getting ARod to replace him.
Why you ask. Simply because Nomar is a proven commodity in BOSTON and as great as ARod is, there is no guarantee he would have fit in as well;obviously to have ARod in ADDITION to Nomar would be fine(as Yanks have done).
I think if Yanks keep adding players, it may not work, as adding too many new players is as bad as not adding enough.
Somehow I can almost picture now Georgie sometime this season bitching and moaning when this team struggles because pitching just isn't there or perhaps because some of these superstars are not all living up to expectations.

Without any other MLB teams there wouldn't even be any baseball and this topic would be mute.

You must really hate the Yankees.

Maddux is a quality pitcher that will be a nice addition to the Yankees rotation since they've lost Clemens and Pettite. However, Maddux isn't the same pitcher he was 3 or 4 years ago as age is catching up with him.

            Savage1,

As a Yankee fan, I agree with you that chemistry may be a problem with this year's team, however, Torre has shown the ability to handle "egos" in the past.

The question will be if the starting pitching can get anyone out. Yes, Vazquez was a nice off season addition, but he's never really pitched a big game in his career, so it will be interesting to see how he handles the media circus. Remember, Kevin Brown pitched, I believe, only 7 games 2 years back, so his health going into this season is a major question mark. Same thing with Lieber if he's even being counted on to be in the rotation.

2 nice pickups in Flash Gordon and Quantrill as setups for Mariano, but, if history has taught us anything good pitching also beats good hitting

Also, it will be interesting to see how Nomar and Manny will be received after all the off season antics. Not sure how comfortable Nomar will be this season.
