  • What is the need for a World Series, or All Star Game????

Since the Yankees have a line up that could probably beat the National league's best players. It really pisses me off that they can just go, and buy anyone they want. I really hope that they fall apart, kind of like the Lakers have done through parts of this year with their HOF team. The MLB needs to take some advice from the NFL, and keep the sport competitive, and put a salary cap on their rosters that is competitive for everyone. I hope the Yankees fall completely apart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not only a salary cap. Baseball needs revenue sharing.

Well, George screwed the Yankees up for so many years so I guess he decided to do something about it over the past 4 or 5 years. Arod was a good pick up, but the Yankees did give away a very solid player in Soriano.

The revenue that the Yankees bring in is staggering in comparision to most ball clubs.

You are right that the Yankees bring in a lot of revenue, but without the rest of the MLB teams, the Yankees wouldn't be able to bring in jack shit.

Acquiring ARod and other big name players is more about putting Georgie in the spotlight and making himself the center of attention than anything else; that is a given.

I do agree that it is not a given that the Spankees will win the world series this year. However if they don't, then that will be bigger news than whoever does win it

The best bet is that egocentric Georgie will go bonkers if Yanks don't win it, and heads will roll!!

Listen guys, George has the right to go bonkers... the guy wants to win, and he doesn't care at what cost! Unlike a lot of other owners in the league who pocket their money instead of putting a quality contender on the field. The Yankees spend and demand to win! Look at the Mets, a big market team, big money & the owner puts garbadge on the field! Look at Boston, they could have had A. Rod, the best player in baseball and didn't pull the trigger for $10,000,000 peanuts in the scheme of things. Best part about it is once they unloaded Nomar and Ramierez they probablly would have saved money! Look at the cubs owned by the Chicago Tribune, a big time market, they dont go all out the way the Yankees do.
I don't like the trade and I don't think it is good for baseball but the bottom line is until they have a hard cap both ways on spending, baseball will continue to be a mess! Just so everyone knows, the Yankees fork over more money in revenue sharing then any other team in baseball hands down. George's biggest bone of contention has been that teams don't want to spend so why should he fork over the money his teams makes because he spends and puts a good product on the field!

                      Here's an article from mlb.com...
New York has four of baseball's eight $100 million players, and its opening-day payroll will be six times that of some teams. Yankees president Randy Levine pointed out that the Yankees paid $50 million in revenue sharing last year and another $12 million in luxury taxes.

``There are never any complaints when we write the check for $60 million and that gets distributed,'' he said.

Though the Yankees and Rangers finalized the trade Sunday, it needed Selig's approval because of the amount of the contract Texas is assuming.

``I want to make it abundantly clear to all clubs that I will not allow cash transfers of this magnitude to become the norm.'' Selig said. ``However, given the unique circumstances, including the size, length and complexity of Mr. Rodriguez's contract and the quality of the talent moving in both directions, I have decided to approve the transaction.''

Texas owner Tom Hicks initially opposed the trade, but later relented.

                        Lucky Leo

Maddux is not the difference between the Yankees going, and not going to the world series. He will not make it through the season w/o injury!!!!!!!!!!!

Leo adding the A. Rod to the Yankees is a big difference, then adding Griffey to Cincy! Ciny was building their entire team around Griffey the Yankees are not! With or with out A. Rod & Maddux the yankees would have been one of the best teams in Baseball.

I feel good about my parlay with the Yankees winning the World Series and the U.S. baseball team winning the Gold in the Olympics. (wink, wink)
NSA's NBA Game Of The Year was on Dallas -4.5 on March 31. Orlando won 108-99. It was a cloudy day for Sonny LaFouchi.
